Now for an odd question :)
I have a Kiev 6C medium format SLR and it needs repair.
Do any of you have any suggestions about who to send it to ?
The only camera repair guy I know is strictly Pentax, and you know who he is LOL.
Thanks !

I realize this is an old thread, but I have relevant info LOL.
Buying and trading gear, I temporarily had a Nikon D90 with a Tamron 18-250mm lens, and a Pentax K-R with a Tamron 18-250mm lens. Both lenses are A18, identical, both are AF screw.
(Tamron also has an 18-250 lens with a motor inside for D40, etc)
OK, I can tell you that between the K-R and the D90, the same AF lens, the K-R is at least 3X louder when focusing, if not more.
Let's stop fooling ourselves, the Pentax AF is louder than competitors - it may be in an effort to sell more high end lenses, or to cut costs, but the result is a loud AF. |

Those were after minus 10 was applied to my K-R.
I'm not affiliated with any sellers, but I'd like to spread the word about that $4 tester.
I wonder if anyone else is finding their prime's focuses are off ?
Also, sorry I posted this in the wrong forum LOL.
I also wonder if it's my camera that is off, rather than my lenses ....

Hello from Maine.
I wonder if this is common ? Both my "DA 35 f/2.4" and "DA 50 f/1.8" needed a minus 10 AF fine adjustment inputted into my K-R.
I use this cheap but effective lens calibration card, $4 : Lens Focus Calibration dslrkit | eBay
I was surprised that both my prime lenses were off by 10.
OK, thanks :)

I found this thread from Google, so I figured others might find it from Google. Since I don't have the ability to delete the thread I figured I'd just add some relevant information.
But we could ask a moderator to delete the thread.
Google indexes old threads with outdated information, in my mind it's an issue ... So I do resurrect old threads sometimes.

Well I was specifically comparing the current kit lens to the last kit lens, 28-80mm.
But it's all resolved now, and a Tammy 18-250 is in my future :)
Cheers,

55 divided by 18 = 3.05 (as in 3X zoom range)
80 divided by 28 = 2.8 (as in 2.8X zoom range)
Oh mind blown again !

Hmmm "equivalent" ...
18mm x 1.5 = 27 "equivalent"
55 x 1.5 = 82.5 "equivalent"
82.5 - 27 = 55.5 "equivalent" range ...
Mind blown ! LOL
How about 28-80mm on a DX sensor ...
28 x 1.5 = 42 "equivalent"
80 x 1.5 = 120 "equivalent"
120 - 42 = 78mm "equivalent" range !
LOL
How about an 18-55mm lens on a micro four thirds camera ? (like an Olympus E-PL1 with 2x crop factor)
18 x 2 = 34mm "equivalent"
55 x 2 = 110mm "equivalent"
110 - 34 = 66mm "equivalent" range
How about an 18-55mm lens on a Pentax Q with it's 5.64 crop factor.
18 x 5.64 = 101.52
55 x 5.64 = 310.2
310.2 - 101.52 = 208.68mm "equivalent" range
But I wonder why we consider the "35mm film equivalent" anyway ?
An 18-55mm lens is an 18-55mm lens, period. And our DX sensors are DX sensors, not equivalent to 35mm film.
I think this whole "equivalent" fiasco is just a way for manufacturers to trick us.
The literal fact is, our current kit lenses have less literal range than yesterday's kit lenses. 37mm on 18-55mm lenses versus 52mm on 28-80mm lenses. 18-70mm would be the same range.
OK thanks,
Craig

Howdy from Maine USA :)
OK, it's Summer at the time of this writing. There is so much Sunshine during the day that an aperture of f/8~f/11 is all I need.
The idea for a lens :
Honestly, considering how sunny it is in the Summer during the day, I think a manufacturer should release an 18-200mm f/8 - I bet that would be nice and lightweight with lots of range.
The conspiracy :
So I'd like more focal range, my 18-55mm lens just feels so ... short.
So I started to think of focal range, I did the math 55 minus 18 and that's 37mm of range.
Well compared to the old kit lenses 28-80mm, they had 52mm of range !
Now I realize kit lenses are shrinking in range !
Cheers,
Craig

Hey I learned how to read MTF charts :)
Czech out this quick video explanation (if you don't know how) : You Tube |

I don't have any MTF charts, but I'll see if I can find some.
