How old are the batteries? Mine will flip flop like that when the batteries are getting weak, though from your description they shouldn't be. I don't think the temperatures should be affecting it, I have used my k200d in anywhere from 10F to 100+F and never had a problem.
I'm assuming you mean 50 degrees fahrenheit? That doesn't seem very cold to me.

I'm giving the NiZn batts a shot in my flashes and, if all goes well, will probably get a few sets for the k200d once I run out of lithium power. Batteries themselves are a little cheaper than eneloops though the charger will run you a bit more. But they should give better performance (1.6v vs 1.4V). Search for NiZn or PowerGenix on here or via google. 12 batts and a 1 hour charger for $47.67 on amazon.

Could just be a mid to fill the gap between the 16-50 and the slower 60-250.

The lens is officially dead. I got the front element off, but the spots were still further in. The front elements have some separation as well as another element set further in...poop

I checked out the site you linked the photo from, if it matters the lens would be the older of the two models.
Holy mother of elements that looks insane!
Re-glueing sounds pretty involved and requiring things I don't have to get the elements aligned properly. I found a recommendation for Focal Point to repair it, though I'm not sure if it would be worth the cost. The lens does have a retaining ring that unscrews through the filter thread. What would be a good way to get this out? Is there a special tool? Being so close to the front element, I would not want to screw up getting it out. This is about what the spots look like.
Thanks for the help!

So I recently acquired a K 45-125, M 50 1.4, and ME. I got the K cheap with the others because of something inside the lens. When I got it I thought it had fungus but when I took it to a local shop they told me that it was two lens elements coming unglued. It looks like small specks inside the lens in a fairly regular pattern from the center to about 1/4" from the outside of the lens element furthest from the camera (end with the filter). Does the shop's diagnosis sound reasonable? If not, is there any way to disassemble the lens to clean it? If so, is there a way to fix it? With the right instructions and tools I am fairly mechanically inclined and could probably figure it out. I would like to disassemble it any way since the aperture is a little slow and with the spots it's probably not worth it to get the shop to do it.
I would really like to get this lens to work since from what I have read it seems like a nice lens. Also, other than the spots and the aperture ring the lens and the other three items that it came with are mint. The "QC passed" inspection sticker on the aperture ring shows no wear, as well as the rest of the lens.
It is difficult to get the spots to show up in pictures but I could try again if they are needed (ideas are welcome).

Not sure if this is how you wanted to do it but it works. Excel file is in the zipped folder.
Though I will agree with others, this could be done easier with something else, or even with VBA in excel.

From reading the release it appears they may have spent more time making it look like an slr than making it work like one. Though I would suppose that the true test will be in the sample pics.

http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/legislation/docs/distracted-driver-cell-phone-discussion-paper.pdf
You may read it all if you like, or just the following:
"Legislation that bans only hand-held cell conversations conflicts with the research that has consistently found no difference in the degree of distraction between hand-held and hands-free cell conversations. As a result, these laws may not provide the expected benefits and may even generate harmful indirect impacts such as a false sense of security for those who talk on hands-free devices while driving."
That was out of BC.

I'll have to look for it, but there is research that shows that hands-free is no safer than hands-full. The conversation is the distraction no matter what you are talking in to.
With due respect to woof, I somewhat tire of the discussion about cell phones. It's all hot air with no action. The case of the person getting time is the exception and far from the rule. NC recently passed a texting ban but how do they plan to enforce it? My cell phone has a few features besides just the phone, how will they prove I was texting when the officer saw me instead of using one of the other (legal) features of the phone? Either way, they won't catch me since I don't have texting on my plan. If they can only get < 30% of people in my county convicted of DUI and far fewer of other traffic offenses (i.e. getting 15-20+ over reduced to non-moving violations, even in school zones), I hold little hope of the courts having any backbone at all when it comes to cell phone usage. All laws are just guidelines without enforcement.
I would like to see speed and red light cameras used more widely in the states. It would free up more officers to enforce cell phone bans and other traffic laws. Though tickets just kill trees if the courts don't stand behind them to get the conviction.
Just this evening I was nearly hit head on by someone passing on a 2-lane road at night, in the rain, in a turn, in a no passing zone. The road is probably the most dangerous place we visit. If the same number of people died from air crashes as car crashes in a year then a fully loaded 747 would go down with all lives lost every 4 days. Y'all be careful out there.

Do you happen to know what the tower is for in the third one? I used to hunt on the other side of the river and we always wondered. If you get a chance to take a boat across to the other side there are some good photo ops around the fish ladder and in that general area, just look out for rattlers in the rocks.

I knew it just wasn't right, I just couldn't put my finger on it (apparently I had a lot to put my finger on!) :p
I know this, and for some reason the subject always seems to creep back to the center :hmm: must be the engineer in me. I tend to concentrate too much on the technical aspects of a picture, i.e. nailing the focus/exposure (missed this time), and push the button before getting the best composition. I'll try to do better next time :D
Do you have any recommendations for books or otherwise to learn lightroom? I've tried the trial version before and for some reason even though I've been able to teach myself what I thought were really complex programs (Solidworks, Inventor, Pro-Engineer), these photography programs seem to be beyond me. I don't really want to drop $100 (student) for lightroom if I can't make it work.
Thanks for the help and no need to remove the edited version, it will give me something to work toward!

Here's mine:
Sometimes I use my own picture and sometimes I don't. It's hard to come across other people's pictures posted in high enough resolution to use. I used that one since I just got this laptop and the pink in the flower looks really good on this screen.

Just out of curiosity, was the sidewall puncture from an external source or a failure? J/w since I work on a "tire farm".
The tires on my Gf's truck dry rotted on the sidewall a few years ago (from sitting around too much, in a bad environment for tires). Started as a slow leak and got progressively worse. When it started leaking she put slime in it which (depending on the manufacturer) voids the warranty, so no money back on those.
But anyway, it's good to hear you got your tires fixed up so easily (and cheaply)!

If I absolutely cannot get to the viewfinder I usually cannot see the lcd either. In those few cases I usually just use a wide angle and crop the picture down to what I need.

Depending on what college you go to, check around. It probably won't be a DSLR (unless you're a design major) but there are probably places you can borrow cameras from the school. I know here they have P&S cameras that anybody can check out and N* DSLRs for designers...
