The biggest difference is that your phone and/or laptop contain the charger circuitry, so can measure the amount of energy put into the cell(s) and use that information. Without adding HW (cost) to the battery, a very difficult problem. I've been messing with lithium batteries for my day job for the last 8 years or so... I've been around this problem a couple of times. ;-)

On the battery, I'm pretty sure that the macbook uses hardware (a fuel gauge chip) on the battery in order to do this. It is a very difficult problem to report accurate charge in a replaceable battery system, as when a new battery is swapped in, the age and charge levels are unknown.

I shoot bracketed raw and then blend the exposures... that way can get a little detail in the dark while not blowing out the sun/sky. Sometimes processing a single raw as an HDR (or using a developing program that can affect only parts of the image) can also get there.

If you are a home theater person, then you may have a display that is capable of being calibrated to a neutral image. Many of the cheaper sets don't have the settings available at all. AVS forum is a good place to start if you want to go down that particular rabbit hole. ;-)

Right- was only adding the info for others who might have a similar experience but with ocean spray (or geyser water ;-).

I haven't opened one, but the cell is likely a pouch-based type- which is totally sealed. There will be a very small PCB with a protection circuit on it- just a handful of components, not likely to take any damage from a clean water bath, even under power.
The protection circuit is there as a safety and battery preservation measure- functions typically are Overcharge, Short circuit, Over-discharge, thermal... maybe cell balancing if it is a multicell battery.
IF you were in SALT WATER, or water with a lot of dissolved solids, I would not trust the battery. A short on the protection PCB could result in a battery that appears to work fine, but has lost the protection features. (cannot detect a problem, or cannot shut off the gating FETs)

With the new sensors, I've had much better results taking a RAW shot that seems too dark and then lifting the dark portions in post. If I try to expose to the right, I always seems to run out of headroom on the highlights.

RawTherapee is another great choice for raw processing.

This is the number one hit for "canoscan 8400f driver for windows 10" on google... Worked for me! The links may or may not stay good, but here is where I found 4.9- CanoScan Toolbox Ver. 4.9.3.2 (Windows 7/7 x64/Vista/Vista64/XP/XP x64/2000/Me/98)
Running this the first time created the SetupSG.exe file mentioned in post #8. I followed those directions except minor changes to how you add to the Path variable under 10.
Thanks!!

Recently turned on Google Photos... had not uploaded anything but cell pictures and work images. I wanted to share some pictures from a recent vacation, so I uploaded a selection... the Assistant assembled a "Story" from it, along with maps showing where the pictures were taken, travel that day, etc. It got this information from knowing where my phone was, and the time/date stamp from my camera. It also merged in pictures from my cell phone that I had taken when I was not carrying my K30...
It did a pretty good job- I added a few more shots, since it was already pretty heavily curated- I'll try a larger set sometime to see what it picks out. You can go back and in modify which images, which maps, etc are included. You can do some small edits to pictures, and add some captions. Nothing super flexible, but sooo easy.
Some people will undoubtedly be creeped out by this kind of data merging. Personally, this is the kind of thing that I want from Google (in trade for my browsing history ;-).
One thing- I am not in the habit of changing the time stamp on my camera when I travel to different time zones. That caused some shifting of the "day" cover pages. Something to remember in the future!

Just came back from two weeks on the Olympic Peninsula and in the Seattle area-
8/22 ran into a forum member hiking up the Hurricane Hill trail! Congratulated him on his good taste in cameras. ;-)
8/27 brushed by a guy in Pikes Market- too quick to talk
8/27 In the gift shop at the Chihuly glass exhibit- older woman looking at buying a piece- white body, black lens.
8/28 At the EMP cafe- older asian gentleman.
So four in two weeks... not too bad! Sorry, I'm not good at IDing camera bodies/lenses, and too shy to talk to most people. :-(

Nice shots!
You can use a ND filter to knock down everything and keep you in your preferred f-stop range. Having the flash would also get you a little catch light in the eyes.
