My wife and kids and got a X-5 (Silver) for me ! Wow, was I surprised. After a K200D and a K20D (Titanium) in my past, I wanted a lighter camera I could tote around on trips and the airlines.
When you get older it is really nice to have a lighter camera with all the bells and whistles and not worry about your lens .
I've had a great time so far with my new baby. I attached an old hand grip. I am glad Pentax kept so many things consistent.
I will need Eneloop batteries. I can use some gift cards for those purchases !

After reading through the Sunday paper here in Atlanta I found an ad for the Target stores. I was surprised to find advertisement for all-weather cameras. Target is gong to carry the PENTAX Optio WG-1 camera.
When you live in the land of the big three brand of cameras, it is a pleasant surprise. I know Target is a giant chain and has a lot of completion here. I hope it positive step for Pentax.

Welcome aboard ! I too was lured by the advertizing. Thankfully, I went with PENTAX. I have 2 bodies and several lens now. I love the idea the lens are backward compatible. Nikon and Canon to my understanding are not. The older PENTAX lens are plentiful for a low price and awesome. Look for a 50mm 1.4f or 1.7f. Don't buy cheap accessories, you may like to regret them.
Back up your hard drive frequently. This you will thankful for in the future.
Happy shooting !

Keep on shooting. Ask for advice.
I go through my shots after being out and about deleting the real duds. Sometimes I wait several days before doing basic PP , B&W and or cropping.
Last week I rendered a color shot of a Magnolia to B&W and I was highly surprised !
I remember learning to drive a car. It wasn't easy. But I didn't stop trying.
If you can find patience in yourself you will improve. Slowly at first and it will surprise you.
I guess as I age learned a few of these things.
Good luck,
Dave

If you use any paint or nail polish be very careful !. Put a soft cloth inside the the body first. I would use a microfiber myself.
I would opt for a good old razor tip Sharpie.

Don't get a CHEAP blower. I did and regret it ! I had to use canned air to clean My K20D after black specks showed up on the CCD sensor. I do think you get what you pay for.
I caution anyone from doing the canned air thing. I was a IBM tech/geek for 30 years and learned a lot about using it. Never use it at extreme temps. Or in anger ! Always clean the general area, use a clean "straw" and use several short burst to clean the straw. Don't
invert the can. At last, use short bursts and check so you don't cause more problems.
Only if you feel brave !!!!
Or for the faith of heart, it to a PRO....

I don't think we're that rare, just selective. I ran into 2 DSLR guys in port Townsend Wa
last year. I encountered a young man shooting film in Seattle. He had an old 6X7 style. He said he just brake away from B&W film yet.
I think Canon & Nikon (which my son shoots) are blinded by the Ashton Kutcher style advertising !

I think it's the rare North Sea ice fog. It's very elusive and short lived.
I saw ice fog in Colorado and similar !
