Different flash... that's the "ST" version while the one I linked to is the "Super" version. The lowest price I can find (B And H, Amazon etc) is $225 USD.

I've spent thousands at their store over the years so I have no problem paying my bit to keep local businesses up and running. However, as most of you said, their word wasn't honoured here - I was careful to check their policy before walking into the store.

I think monochrome was right about the salesman who couldn't be bothered to work a product when they were receiving little to no commission.

However, from a business standpoint, losing a longtime customer and the thousands of dollars from future sales was a short-sighted error. I get the "we lose money so I won't sell it" argument but he didn't even come back with a counter-offer. He just said "I'm not interested in making that sale". I was prepared to pay their cost but that offer never made the table. All he had to do was look up my name and he would have realized I wasn't some "Joe" that was simply price-matching - but he blew it.

...And its not the first time. They come up with every excuse under the sun to exempt themselves from any match I've brought to them.

Maybe its just the Barrie location? Could be worth the drive to Newmarket lol

I've e-mailed their head-office with no resolution. Most recently I posted on their Facebook page and they responded with a typical "What happened?" but Its too late, they already lost the sale and a customer.

I rarely purchase anything from these guys (Barrie, ON) due to their non-competitive prices but today they became completely useless to me, even with their Price-Match "guarantee".

I walked in with a brick-and-mortar ad for a Sigma 610 Flash. I read their policy carefully and knew I qualified for their price-match option. But the salesman turned me down flat saying "I'm not interested in trying to match that, I don't want the sale that badly".

I have played the price-match game with all sorts of retailers, The Brick, Future Shop etc and they have all played along - gaining my future business. But Henry's? Not so much. I've actually been turned down each and everytime I've asked them to price-match so I am no longer willing to spend my time walking in there. So much for trying to support local business (chain).

Looks good to me. I just tried it on my Sigma 70-200 and realized I had dialed-in too much compensation previously. Sure enough, using the new setting works marvelously.

I like a very big hood and front element, I think it makes me look more professional lol. Unfortunately the used prices seem a little high right now with Pentax's recent price gouge so I'll keep my ear to the ground and see what comes up. It'll be one of the two and I think either will be a pearl in my collection. Thanks for the info!

I've been eyeballing the 50-135 or Sigma 50-150 as a "comprehensive outfit"... how do you like the 50-135 as a compliment to the 17-50?

I absolutely love my k5/Sigma 17-50 combo. I replaced my Tammy 28-75/2.8 with it recently due to the wide end and the HSM since I'm doing weddings this summer. Its sharp from wide open, fairly fast focusing and built well. In Lightroom 3.x the lens is not recognized. Its a large lens on the front of a K5, but I LOVE that... The larger the lens the cooler you look lol.

Take the pledge - No new Pentax lens purchases

I don't know how Pentax's pricing strategy is a good thing for them... sure they get their stuff in a few large-box retailers now but who's going to pay these prices? They SHOULD have lowered the MSRP at the same time, which should have gotten their product out there and lessened the blow to us. I bought into Pentax because of value. Back when I bought into the brand, Canon and Nikon would have been bigger contenders if the pricing was closer like it is now. They're only screwing themselves in the long run.

Pledge accepted.

Need Some Pointers on Filters for Landscapes

I use the Cokin P .3 .6 and .9 ND Grad Filters - they're "ok" but don't you dare point them straight at the sun unless you like buggering your photos lol.

I believe its this one : Amazon.com: Cokin Neutral Density Graduated FH-121L-121M-121S Filter Kit - H250 With LensPen Klear Pen: Camera & Photo (minus the lens pen)

Also, a circular polarizer is great for saturating colours, darkening skies and seeing through reflections on streams.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Tamron 28-75/2.8

Asking Price
299

Item Location
Barrie, Ontario (Canada)

Item Description
For Sale or Trade: Tamron SP AF Aspherical XR Di LD (IF) 28-75/2.8 (please let me know if I missed any letters)

Its in "Good" condition, a little dust behind the glass but doesn't show in pictures.

Full disclaimer: I had the filter thread repaired. I purchased it from Henry's a few years back with a slight crack in the filter-thread piece but recently had it repaired by the local camera repair shop. They did a very good job and I can't see where he did the repair. In addition I had him replace the missing trim ring at the front of the lens (the one hiding the screws). You can see in the photo how it looks - definitely not stock and you can see the marks where he ground it down - but from a few feet away you can't tell.

It comes with front and rear caps, I do not have original packaging.

Optically this lens is great - it was my go-to lens for years but I replaced it with a Sigma 17-50 HSM because I am doing weddings and I wanted to eliminate the sound of the screw-drive focus.

Willing to trade for a Pentax DA 55-300

Asking price is $299 plus shipping and paypal fees. I also accept email Interac.

Poll: Staying with Pentax or jumping ship?
Posted By AndrewShirley

I love my K5, its an amazing camera - so I will stay with Pentax for the body. Unfortunately Pentax has priced itself out of the market for lenses so I will be purchasing Sigma mostly from now on, or if the used prices on Pentax glass stays reasonable, I will be purchasing more used.

If the next body comes out with this outlandish price increase attached to it then I have absolutely no reason to stick around.

Whoops. LR 4.1 RC - almost completely unusable on my system. Constant hangs (for about 20 to 30 seconds), failure to redraw at 1:1, failure to draw adjustment brush etc.

I'm glad its working for you guys, but its completely useless to me right now. I'm going back to 3.6 for now.

I just bought one of those (locally, used) and from my informal testing its a really great lens. Surprisingly its sharper than my Tamron 28-75 and the build quality is much higher. The silent HSM is really ... um... silent and focusing is very quick. No complaints thus far ;)

I think its a steal at that price.
