I'm all for experimenting and trying new things but in this kind of high speed photography, it's not the camera's FPS that matters but more of the timing of the image capture and freezing motion. From what I've read, you need some sort of trigger that'll sense the projectile (BB pellet, bullet, etc) and trigger the camera + flash setup (usually used at lowest flash power for the shortest flash duration and maximum freezing of movement).

Cross-posted from another thread discussing panorama technique.
I rarely go back and re-work old photos but I recently did so with this one from 2 years ago because when I originally saw the scene, I knew it was stunning but after shooting the series of photos for the panorama, I was somewhat disappointed with the results. My post-processing skills at the time were not quite enough to bring it alive but now that I've re-pp'd and stitched this, I am happy with the results. There's a massive amount of detail in the full size version.

I don't know if the OP has tried shooting two or more rows (shot in portrait orientation) to create a large panorama? The bottom row would mostly contain the portions on the ground with some of the sky; the row above should contain more of the sky but with some of the ground for the overlap; if you're ambitious, you can do a third row that just has the sky portion but I find the software sometimes has issues stitching the sky if there are no clouds to match up. Once you've stitched, you can crop to your desired aspect ratio and composition. Just make sure to be methodical when shooting and to not leave out any sections. :)
Sometimes if you get mismatches, you just gotta go in there and clone it out.
I prefer shooting my panos with a longer FL, usually an 85mm on my Nikon FF camera, so that there's no wide angle distortion to deal with but of course that depends on the situation.

Interestingly, there's a panorama technique popularly known as the Brenizer Method where you shoot with a shallow DOF and long focal length to produce a wide field of view and a shallow DOF look.

If you're going to be shooting runways often, you could try using a monopod to support your heavy kit (provided that the venue allows it). Although I don't own a D800, I've shot one a few times and I know what you're talking about when it comes to the buffer filling fast! Write speeds are going to be affected by what cards you use and how your file writing strategy is setup. I assume you're using both fast CF and SD cards; I tend to think SD cards write slower than CF so I would try saving the NEFs to the CF and smaller JPGs as backup on the SD. You don't need to write NEFs to both cards right? And do you need to shoot at full-res since it's runway and not a fashion editorial?
Once the flare issue is sorted for the D750, maybe you should sell the D800 if you still need more speed. :)

I have very minimal experience with fashion/glamour photography but recently have been exploring the genre a little bit. This was shot at home on a thunder grey seamless paper backdrop; lighting is in a clamshell configuration, key light is an AB800 with a gridded softbox boomed overhead plus a silver reflector below for fill. I would have liked to use an octabox or beauty dish instead for a more circular catch-light but I'm borrowing the lighting gear from a friend so I'll take whatever I can get my hands on. :)

NIce shot Frogfish! I've seen a number of cool photos of these cormorant fishermen from different photographers.. so I wonder, do people pay them to get them to pose for the photo? Doesn't take anything away from the photo, I'm just curious if that's their livelihood more so than their fishing. :)

During naturally lit group photos, I think it's a good idea to take a burst of shots each time so that you hopefully will have a one clean shot with everyone's eyes open. If not, you'll at least have enough shots to cut/paste someone's eyes into another frame.
Open shade areas are your friend.. although it's not the most exciting lighting situation, for group photos it's nice to have everyone evenly lit without any hot spots or shadowy areas. You mentioned that time is a factor.. you don't want to be messing around with external lighting and reflectors and whatnot so the safest, quickest lighting scenario imho is open shade.
If there are going to be different group combinations, ask your dad to prepare a list beforehand so you or him (probably would be better if it's him as he knows the employees) can wrangle the different combos together. Once they're gathered, you can fine tune their placement within the group.
If they're smaller groupings and will be standing side by side, make sure that they're perfectly lined up. People have a tendency to form a U shape when they line up for photos. Once they're in a straight line, you won't have to worry about your DOF so much because everyone should be within the plane of focus. I also think it's nice to use a longer focal length to get the telephoto compression look for these smaller group shots.

There are many wedding photographers who shoot mostly (or even entirely) with primes. A popular combo is the 35 + 85 f/1.4 primes on 2 FF bodies. Since you'll be shooting with APS-C, you may find the 31 + 85 to be a bit too tight sometimes.. I think it's usually better to be a bit wider so you have the option of cropping in if necessary. Perhaps the DA 21 f/3.2 + 55 f/1.4 would be nice if you can get hold of them.
Unless the wedding is taking place in a HUGE garden, the FOV of a 70-200 on a crop sensor body would be too tight imho.. a 50-135 would be more useful. I like zooms for the ceremony portion of a wedding as you don't want to be moving around too much; other parts of the day, I like the look you get with fast primes.

As far as I'm aware, only one camera on the market uses XQD cards - the Nikon D4 (and D4s). Although high capacity and fast CF cards are expensive, the XQD still costs more and now the user has to manage 2 different types of memory cards in the field. I'm doubtful that any D4/D4s users would criticize CF for being too slow as the cameras have large buffers. It just seems unnecessary to have a 2nd type of a memory card. Imho, if Nikon kept with the dual CF slots for the D4/D4s it would have been a perfect evolution of the previous generation D3s.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I would say my intention was more of a landscape with the couple as a small human element. We took enough photos during the day that featured them up close, the 'safe' and 'must have' shots. This was a chance to do something different and was a photo I had discussed with them ahead of time to see if they'd be up for it since it depended on the weather and also required us to step away from the party for a bit. And yes, the couple is happy with how it turned out.
@osv - I felt the backlight was necessary to separate them from the dark background, so if they were closer to the camera, I still would have used it.
