oh yes, the 18-250 is my NO1 choice, only the price isn't... the whole trip to India and Japan is running me very much to the final penny. I will just have to be quick with the change, I think 50-200mm will be the way to go.

Very helpful. SpecialK seems to agree on the 50-200mm I have some time to shop around, so I will certainly research that, I only was considering the 40mm due to the size... I am always banging my damn 16-45mm into passerbys, its huge with the bloody hood.
thanks again.

Thanks for the info, I hadn't even considered the 50-200mm... the slightly less reach doesn't bother me, but by not very close focusing do you mean macro? I read that the 18-125mm has better IQ but would it be worth purchasing in pairing with the 16 45.

Hello I have a question about the following;
I will be backpacking India next May (I know terrible time to go) I have a k100D and Pentax DA 16-45mm f/4.0 and wish to add a second lens for travel, I like portraits most of all ... so I was considering the Pentax DA 40mm f/2.8 Ultra Compact Lens. Though various people have said I will want better reach in India, thus stearing me toward a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO.
Excuse my evident newbiness.
Ardy.

Hmm odd, I love this lens. I guess it all depends on what you like to shoot.

Hi all
I will be travelling to India at the beginning of next year, and I wish to purchase a reasonably priced (150-300USD) telephoto lens to compliment my DA 16-45mm lens... though I was considering saving up for a compact lens to replace both lenses - to make my backpacking easier and less conspicuous. I do not know much about fixed focal lengths, what would give me a good range for both landscape and portrait?
Much appreciated, I am a novice.

I just purchased the Domke Urban Brick 10 for my K100D and associated accessories. Has anyone purchased this bag, because mine arrived with no inserts or shoulder strap, I assumed these would be included, they were in the adorama.com image... or is it that I have to purchase them separately? And if so, where?
Thanks, Ardy

Hello, hello.
I finally bought my first DSLR, opting for the k100d so as to purchase a better lens, the Pentax 16-45mm. I have heard good things, (hasn't arrived yet) but what are the negatives? Does anyone have any useful info for points I should avoid with this lens?
Glad to be here!

Yeah I played it safe and went for the K100D, using the extra on a better lens. I'll upgrade to the K10D when it dives, as it will, in a year or so.
