thanks to all for the help. I guess I have to return the lens. Nothing works. I do not see a "Pin" on the lens like someone said.
Thanks again to all.

yes, it does.
thats what's weird about it. from reading the boards putting it to "A" usually fixes the problem. But I can't get it to work.

when I put the sigma lens 70-300 apo dg macro and turn on the camera I get a "F--" message on the top screen. And I cannot take a picture. Looks like the lense is not communicating with Camera. I cannot figure what is causing this.
Steps I have already taken:
1. Cleaned the Connection (bottom of lenses and camera) with a microfiber cloth.
2. Changed the ring in the lense to "A", and In the Customize menu in the camera I allowed to take pictures on all settings not just "A" mode.
3. also did the apposite to only take pictures if lense is set to "A" mode.
4. I tried changing the rings to all the different f numbers "f/4 to f22".
5. Made sure that when putting the lense that it clicked.
6. took off the battery and put back in.
7. tryed different settings "auto", "manual", "P", "av", "tv" etc.
8 put the auto focus to manual, to af-s, turn camera on/off.
When I put the Pentax lens that came with camera it works fine DA 18-55.
What else should I do? I just bought this lense 2 weeks ago.
Do you think the lense is defective?
Thanks in advance, this is my first post here. I am new to Pentax and DSL photography. :)
