I would recommend a Nikon SB-26.... Well I would recommend you get several of them. Works great in Auto mode and they are amazing studio strobes as well!

Just playing around with my new DA40 and the Digital Filters in K7.

Most of the time I shoot Landscapes, Streets and People/portraits...

... and I usually shoot RAW only, but this is a fun change of both PP and picture subject :hmm:

I suppose that could help me; if my subject isn't moving and I can get used to stopping down while looking through the viewfinder :D

Thanks for the tip - isn't 105mm f/2.8 "expensive" now?

Well thank you very much.

I am already in love with the S-M-C 55mm f/1.8. I still have to play a bit more with the S-M-C 200mm f/4 since the focus ring is a lot more tight, but it seems to have amazing quality from f/5.6.

I still have to get my head around this manual focus thing - it takes me A LONG TIME to focus right now, but practice makes perfect (I hope)

... what to buy next?

I'm thinking perhaps a S-M-C 35mm f/2 :D

So, after work I got home and attached the adapter and fired a couple of test shots with my first Takumar. Boy oh boy, this manually focusing is gonna take practice :D

First one in focus after a couple of tries:

S-M-C Takumar 55mm f/1.8 - @f/2.8

The lens seems great, but also a new experience. Btw is there anyway of knowing when the lens has been screwed in firmly enough? I am thinking it must impact focusing if not properly attached.

I finally found/received an original adapter and today the Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 55mm f/1.8 also arrived, so now I can finally join this Club!

Now I don't have any experience with these old wonders, but to me the build quality of this 55mm seems AMAZING - is this what I can expect from all the old Taks or am I giving it too much credit because I am so happy that the lens arrived today ? :D

Can't wait to get home from work to try it out...!

Well my DA15 has arrived and I like it a lot.

Bought (partly) due to pictures in this thread, I thought I wanted to post one of my first snaps with it:

Though not really showing of the quality of the DA15, I like what 15mm gives - it means I can capture more in tight places. The DA15 will sure help be a great companion.

Saw this little lady on the streets of Crete and asked her permission to shoot her... thought I would try and process it as being an older picture.

EDIT: It didn't look like I wanted on a white background in this forum, so I threw a dark grey background on it... not really supposed to be part of the picture, but oh well...

I can finally join the FA Limited Club :D

I bought a "made in Japan" FA77 from Voe from this Forum. It looks great and this is my very first click with the FA77 mounted.

No sharpening or any other "enhancements" done, just converted to B/H and resized:

I think I'm gonna like this little gem...

Yeah... but how many samples out there of the DA* 50-135 works fine for many years? I reallize that there are problems with some SDM lenses... it still wouldn't make me switch...as I said: try it.

Why not?

We only live once and some not for very long, so why waste it. If you have the cash - do it!

I have tried it a couple of times and regretted it - even though I switched to much better cameras (well on paper anyway) like 5D and D700.

You can always switch back, but be aware - there is a lot of truth to the "grass is always greener" cliche... and to make matters worse: you cannot judge something like photography (or other creative hobbies) by specifications on equipment. Pentax (handling, lenses, bodies etc.) are special - Canon comes nowhere near. Next best thing would be Nikon, but I still prefer Pentax... go figure..

Above is just my personal experience... if I were you I would stick with Pentax. You are talking about a prime and a fast tele lens? Well the FA31 and the DA* 50-135 fits very well and are top quality...

Well, FOR ME the Pentax bodies are by far the best (in APS-C anyway). So if I were to buy nothing but a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 it would still be for a Pentax body !

... having said that, the Limiteds are too amazing to let go :D

Yeah, I know what you mean. I still struggle with the thought of a normal zoom that goes to 16mm, but I really don't want the additional weight :hmm:

Thank you.

I decided to go light and only bring the kit 18-55mm WR lens. I also wanted to test it to see its short-comings - turns out that it is a great lens. There was a few times where I wished for a tiny bit wider, so I will probably go for a 16mm zoom lens one day... but not before I have the Limiteds I want

I sunny places like Crete... I didn't miss a fast aperture.. only once or twice for creative reasons... but the 18-55 WR did great.

... the K7 has become our travel camera.

Last week I was with my family on a one week vacation to Crete and prior to the trip I asked my wife to try out my two cameras, an Olympus E-PL1 (bought as travel camera) and my Pentax K7, around her neck and choose which one she wanted me to bring, seeing as she would be using the camera as well.

She first tried the K7... then she tried the smaller E-PL1 and immediately said (and much to my surprise) "No way... the K7 is much better for me"

So now I have to sell the E-PL1, it was purchased as a smaller travel camera, but wasn't even brought on our vacation. The bad thing is that I will take a loss. The good thing is that I can now concentrate 100% on Pentax lenses :D
The K7 did great and was with us every day of the week... I have only gone through half the pictures and only processed a few so far... here's one of the 450 pictures...

...now I just have to go process all the pictures and hopefully narrow the collection down to around 150 pictures for family and friends

The K7 rocks !!!

Just got back from a weeks vacation in Crete.

I decided to go light and brought only the fine DA 18-55mm WR and it helped me shoot around 450 pictures.

Here's one:
