Nikon Coolscan 8000 - masking?

Tuco, I didn't save the scans, so I will rescan when I get some time on the weekend.

John, thanks for explaination. It is on two of the three negatives so it is not just the edge. It seems to be on negatives that have lots of dark areas (light sky when inverted). I was contemplating cutting up some black paper and masking a negative, but given it is dark areas maybe I need to mask with white paper.

Nikon Coolscan 8000 - masking?

I bought a 8000 a little while ago and finally sat down and got my head around scanning workflow. First batch of three 6X6 120 film negatives scanned without a problem. Then on the second batch I got muddy brown discolouration around the edges of two of the three scans. I have googled around and have learnt that it is most likely due to light leaking and I need to mask to fix the problem. I got the scanner second hand and do not have the strips that I think came with it new. Can someone please explain what I need to do to get a clean scan? I currently have a dismantled 120 film holder and place a piece of AN glass on top of the negatives. Thanks.

645 lens madness

I recently decided to add a autofocus medium format camera to my P67II (and Bald), as my young son is now on the move, and not yet at the age where he will stand still. Got myself a P645n and wanted to add a 150mm FA. Been watching the market for a few months and am kicking myself for not acting quick. When I first was deciding whether to go the 645n, two FA 150s sold for between $430 and $500. Then not long after a new one when for a bit over $800. It has been quiet until the recent sales discussed above. I have been blown away by how fast the prices have risen.

Pentax has got to get its act together and provide lenses for the 645d. I can't see it as viable camera for professionals with no lenses available.

Two things I have been comtemplating: first, will these high prices see sellers enter the market? And, when a viable new lens range is available, will upgraders sell the FA lenses and push the price back down, seeing the premium for scarcity will disappear.

180 and 300 CZJ lenses mounted on a Pentax 67

Alan, you have got thinking of trying the same thing with a 180mm sonnar. I love the photos out of my 501cm (the 3D look you mention), but prefer the handling of the P67. I usually use an extension tube when shooting portraits so lack of infinity focus is not a problem. Instead of using the P67 mount of an extension tube I was thinking of getting a broken lens and taking the mount of this. Are there any problems with this? Also, what do you do with the aperture pin in the P6 lens when you convert?

Regards, Simon.

Hasselblad lenses on Pentax 645

I did mean the 645n/nii.

Thank you very much for the reply.

Just one more question, do you need to use the depth of field preview to set the aperture, or does the adapter close down the aperture when the shutter is fired? Assuming you are not shooting wide open.

I was just wondering if anyone knows if the focus confirm works when using a Hasselbald lens on the 645 via an adapter? From what I understand the focus confirm works for 67 lenses so I would assume it wouldn't be much different for V lenses. Age is getting to my eyesight, so focus confirm would be helpful for my MF lenses.

Great shots. I am thinking of dipping my toe into medium format for long exposure shots. From what I understand you would need to use bulb for 2min exposures, is this right for your gear? How do you calculate your exposure with these long times and do you stand by with a watch? Just wondering how very long exposures are done.

I agree, give us details on the Super Telephoto on the Roadmap, and get the Teleconverter back on track. We have the cameras and lots of lenses in the wide to short telephoto area, the big gap is in the long lens department.

PePe, Barry, I have been comtemplating the same purchase for a while, but have had a couple of concerns. What is the AF like - is it fast, how does it go in low light? I have been wondering if it was worthwhile waiting until Sigma gets around to upgrading the 500mm to HSM or for the roadmap's Super Telephoto when we find out what it is and it is released. One advantage of the screw AF is the lens will last longer with the motor in the body being replaced regulary as I upgrade (no worries of HSM/SDM failing), so it might be better if the AF is as quick, only disadvantage is the noise.

Do you use SR with the TC? With it reporting 500mm rather than the actual 700mm (1.4TC) does it degrade the image? This will not be a problem when we finally get the new Pentax TC or if the K7 allows us to adjust the SR length.

Given the cost of the jump, it is great to get feedback from owners.
