No offense taken, but I bought my DS used and it didn't come with a manual!
I did download one from the net but I find it easier reading from a paper manual...;)

Roy,
Do you use it in P mode like Roscot also?
How do I determine the working iso of the camera?

I know this isn't the best flash for this camera, but how can I set it up so it works?
First off, what should the iso be set at on the flash? The zoom head automatically sets at 28 with the *ist DS's stock lens. I have the flash set to TTL. And what the heck is the Trailing/Leading curtain sync switch for????? So far, most of the pics with the flash are coming out way over exposed, leading me to beleive the flash is firing at 100% power at all times. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions or settings I can try let me know!

OK, I finally received my *ist Ds yesterday and tried to get the flash to work
without success. I've checked the flash settings and upgraded the firmware
from 1.0 to 2.0.2. The flash does pop up but doesn't fire. Upon searching the net
reguarding this problem, I found one posting where someone had a similar
problem and sent their camera to Pentax in Colorado, where the replaced a
circuit board, shipped from Japan, and repaired the flash for around $250.00
including shipping. I assume that if the camera fails to charge the internal
flash, then it also will fail to charge the hot shoe for an external flash also.
Is there any way to test the hot shoe for powering a flash with a volt meter
or something? I'm thinking it may be cheaper to get an external flash (if it
would work) than send the camera out for repair. I also read that the internal
flash on the *ist Ds isn't very good anyway! Any thoughts?:(

My 10 year old daughter is going to play her violin at Heinz Hall in April, where the
Pittsburgh Symphony plays. I'd like a zoom lens capable of capturing her in detail on the stage with good clarity from a distance in this indoor setting. What kind of lens would I need to do this without using a flash?

I just purchased my first DSLR, a used Pentax *ist Ds on ebay. It comes with the
Pentax DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL lens. Is this a good starter lens and can anyone suggest 2 or 3 "must have" lenses for this camera? Thanks!

If the flash circuitry is defective, could I add an external flash?

Thanks for the quick reply Adam! The seller said the camera was in lightly used , excellent condition, but the flash no longer works. What could be the cause for the flash not working and what are my options?

Does the *ist Ds have a built in flash? If so, can the bulb burn out and/ort be changed?
