so i'm working on a trade with a girl who has a Ricoh KR5 (black) and a K1000 with some lenses. she's got a SMC-A 50mm f/2 (who doesn't?), a "Five Star" 35-75mm (i won't even ask about this one) and a Promaster Spectrum 70-210mm. that's about the extent of the info i got out of her, altho i did ask for a get s/n (in case the 70-210 was a Series 1)
so does anyone know anything about this lens? is this a hidden gem or am i better off moving along..?.. considering i was hoping for a Series 1 (the craigslist post had nothing about the lenses) and the bodies

i'm out of Woodford Reserve and almost out of scotch, so maybe that's it :o
you weren't on my mind when i posted that, so relax. i just find this whole thread ironic. i have friends who have gear from all the major manufacturers (no Leica tho, we're just not that rich i guess), i just don't ever see this kind of behavior from photographers...

i happened to stop in the one in Newington (Portsmouth), NH on sunday after taking my little girl to see the Easter Bunny (parked right outside the store). no mention of GOB, tho. in the last 2 yrs. we've lost the area 3 independent shops (one i got $500 retail worth of Tiffen filters for $40!). i either have to go to Portland, ME, Manchester, NH or Boston to get to a real shop (none of which is less than a 40 min. drive)
the internet is killing these shops- people go in a brick-n-morter to fondle the equipment, get info, and then go buy online for 10-20% less. it's sad

i've got a F3-X and love it. i use it for my Canon gear, however, so i can't comment on the K20. it does hold a XTi w/grip and 28-135mm IS attached, a rocket blower underneath that, a Sigma 10-20mm w/a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II in a small bag on top and either a flash or the crappy Sigma 70-300mm APO DG on the other side. front pocket has two filter cases and the the side pockets i keep spare batteries, CF card case, car keys, etc..
my ME Super and Vivitar 75-205mm f/3.8 is in a small lmt. ed. Domke w/o a model. both bags were giveaways at the annual awards dinner for The White House News Photographers Association (of which my father is a member)

i guess my point is, i thought maybe i had finally found an intelligent forum with mature photographers (unlike some certain VW-oriented forums i'm on ). people who complain about being questioned about their gear and then begin wholesale bashing of everyone who uses the offenders gear...oh, screw it... it's a never ending cycle. if you don't like your "friends" harping on you about your gear, you either need to find new friends or find some self-help books to come to terms with your own insecurity. the OP is excepted from this rant because he makes valid points about the fact it's not the brand of tool you use, it's the output.
awards have been won with pinhole cameras....

it's funny how some of the posters in this thread are bashing Canon users to defend their choice of Pentax. i started out shooting Pentax in the 80's but went to Canon for digital a little over 2 yrs ago. part of it had to do with the price and availability at the time (there were no Pentax dealers in my area), part of it had to do with the fantastic L glass that i still don't own but rent on a regular basis.
this proves to me that snobs are snobs, whatever they shoot, drive or drink (i prefer, VWs to Hondas and Woodford Reserve to Knob Creek ;) ). i love my Me Super and all the lenses, and i love my XTi and it's lenses (i also prefer in-lens to in-camera for image stabilization).
a real dumbass once said- "can't we all just get along?"

just found this site in the last couple days. registered today. i've finally found my religion again and cleaned up my old ME Super. i've had it since '84 (but first started shootin with mom's ME Super in '81). i've talked my mother out of her old kit. so by weeks end, i'll have (2) ME Super bodies, (1) ME Winder II, (2) 50mm f/2 SMC-Ms, a Vivitar (Kiron) 75-200mm f/3.8 one-touch/push-pull, a Vivitar (Kiron) 28mm f/2 (i think the "K13") and whatever else mom brings up with her. i've got a set of light seals a friend gave me but i think i'll end up needing another set for the body i'm getting from mom..
i'm in the market for a 40mm f/2.8 pancake and there's a camera show outside of Boston in a couple weeks (for more info go to- Photographic Historical Society of New England ) so i may get lucky. if someone's got a nice copy they want to sell cheap, shoot me a msg.
as far as digital is concerned, well, i'm a Canon guy (sorry). i'm shooting with a little over 2 yr old (80K+ on the shutter) XTi w/Opteka battery grip, a 50mm f/1.8 II, an EF 28-135mm IS, a Sigma 10-20mm EX, and a Sigma 70-300 APO DG and i'm willing to sell my soul and the 70-300mm for an EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

looks like i was wrong on the 28mm- turns out it's a Vivitar/Kiron f/2. i'll post up some shots as soon as i get the light seals replaced in mine (i'll probably have to do mom's as well)

so i got religion and got out my old film kit. ME Super w/50mm f/2 SMC and the above mentioned Vivitar. the body and 50mm i got for my birthday in 1984 and the Vivitar i swiped from my mother 20 yrs ago (she's finally giving up her ME Super and 28mm f/2.8 this week :D ).
i did a little research, found it was a Kiron (s/n starts with "22") but not much else. this is the push-pull/one-touch. i never really knew that much about the quality of the Vivitar, but from what i can gather it's not a bad lens.
so, please tell me your experiences. what's the sweet spot on this lens? any aperture/focal length combos i should avoid? any info is much appreciated
