K20 multi exposure v K7 HDR

tpeace.....I had the same experience. Basically, once you set the settings, you must then trigger the shutter the number of times you indicated (i.e. 5 times in your example). If you hit the menu it essentually wipes out the setting and assumes you did not want to take the multiple exposures. If it works correctly, you should be able to watch the counter take one shot away on your counter and then add it back to indicate it is writing to the previous image. Once you shoot the five shots, it then resumes normal "single exposure" shots. You must set this setting for each time you want to use the technique. At least that has been my experience so far.

F Remote

OK....I know this may be a stupid user issue but I need help. I recently purchased an F remote and upon trying to get it to work was unable to get it to work. Originally I thought it might be simply a dead battery as the light at the end of the remote would not come on when I pushed the button. Regardless I sent it back to the store I purchased from. They returned a new one and now.....same problem. What steps should I be taking to get the remote to activate the shutter button? Should the light turn red, etc when I depress the button on remote. Feel its probably low chance that I was shipped two defective remotes. What easy step am I missing or how can I troubleshoot the problem? Thanks for any feedback/instruction.

Novice Lens Question

I am sure this is a simple "stupid user" question, but I have come into some lenses that mount up nicely to my K20. Those that have an "A" setting for the f stops I am having no problem with as I can control all the functions from the dials in terms of aperture and focus manually. On those without that setting though, even though they mount up, I am unable to shoot the shots even once I get focused because it is blinking "F - -" and its like it doesn't know what the aperture is and therefore will not go forward. What am I missing or is this common? It seems others are able to use the "M" series which seem to be the same?

Ideal K10D settings and shooting mode

We just got back ourselves. Shot primarily with the 16-45. Great images. The only suggestion I would add is to be cautious when using that lens in tight spots indoors (for example if you do character dining and are trying to capture the characters for up close and personal shots) unless you are using a dedicated flash. The barrell extension to go wider causes a problem at anything less than about 21mm due to a shadow being cast bt the onboard flash. For that reason I would likely carry a prime lens at wider angle to get those shots without worry of trying to remember avoiding backing up too much. Also would make for a lighter setup than carrying a dedicated flash. As previously mentioned the photopass guys and gals do a great job, with good equipment, and are not in any way too pushy/salesman like. Its purely up to you whether you want them to photo you, etc. My absolute favorite shot from Disney was a night shot from just behind the merry go round....focus on the top of the Merry Go Round while standing at about Dumbos with the castle in the back ground while the fireworks are going off. It is a can't miss photo opp. Enjoy!!

Advice on K20D purchase

Buy the K20......I debated for over a month and I am so glad I got it. For the most part, the K20 can be used in green mode without real worry. Every picture will not be perfect, but she will quickly learn to take several and will like the ability to do that rather easily compared to the point and shoot. The only real adjustment I would recomend you teach her a little about is to adjust the White Balance to the appropriate setting instead of leaving it in auto WB mode (for me indoors shots come out great in "Tungsten Light" mode) and for me that tends to work out some other "exposure" problems for novices like me. On the K20 all this can be done while in Green mode by simply hitting the function button, left clicking, then picking the choice that best suits the situation. From there she might start learning the other modes as previously suggested but not unless she want to. I am 100% pleased with my decesion to go with the K20 verses some of Pentax's other models or a more entry level model from another maker.
