Chemical Storage Jugs/Containers

Just to add to the conversation... I have been using vinegar jugs (gallon and quart) lately. They are very sturdy and also have a nice seating lid. I've been using these for more than a year now.

I also store my HC110 in those brown glass yeast jars to keep them in smaller quantities, also to avoid excess oxidation. They are wide-mouth, which makes extracting the liquid via syringe very easy.

Both of these come straight from the grocery store. My wife uses vinegar to clean a lot so the vinegar goes quickly (I also use it for stop as well), giving me a nice store of bottles. The yeast goes slower however.

Both shots are great tuco! Very well done, especially with the narrative! Makes me appreciate it even more as I've been in similar sticky perches :)

Thanks tuco... I agree completely about over exaggerated color - I'm completely adverse to it these days! Hopefully this phase passes soon!

Wonderful shot MetaD! Kenosha Pass is a beautiful area! I think your photo has excellent color, very natural and perfect... not at all over saturated as is popular with digital right now. That's what tuco was saying - it was a great compliment to you and your photo!

My second contribution to this thread... Pentax 645NII with Provia. Spokane, WA.

I LOVE the look of Provia! The 645 slides look absolutely beautiful!

Great shots everybody. This is, hands down, my favorite thread on this site! So, I'll jump in with a few of my own:

I've never done E-6 before, but will probably keep going back. This is Fuji Provia 400X. It is fantastic! Pentax 645NII, 75mm.

Same film, same day. Pentax 645NII, 75mm.

Finally, from my Pentax 6x7. Delta 3200, also great film!

Thanks all for the wonderful photos! It really makes me want to get out more and more :)

Going into medium format?

You really can't go wrong with any medium format, especially if you like to go big when printing. 120/220 film gives so much latitude when enlarging, though 6x4.5 is the smallest of the medium format, it is still huge compared to 35mm.

You should at least see if a store near you has some different varieties in stock, so you can get a feel for them and their differences/features. I do love my 645NII (I got a screaming deal on it) and find it extremely easy to use, fairly light weight (though I am comparing a Pentax 6x7 :hmm:) and the world is ripe with accessories and lenses. As stated by Swift1, having the details printed on the film edges is beyond cool (no more notebook with that camera).

If you want to jump in relatively cheaply, you can always go with an older, fully manual 120 camera - like the Kodak Brownies, Yashica TLR's or cartridge cameras. eBay is flooded with them at cheap prices and they are a lot of fun if you can handle using your intuition (sunny 16, etc.) or a separate light meter.

The most important thing, is get something that you will enjoy, or your DSLR will be promoted to primary use again. Be warned, however, it is very addictive once you get going! I set out for a 645n and ended up with a whole arsenal of film cameras and a full wet darkroom! My poor K10d is so lonely!

Just my $.02. Feel free to ask more specific questions!

This fact always blew my mind. We live close to Pentax's US headquarters and we have no Pentax gear in the retail market. I find that truly unbelievable. Still.

Which bag for 645

I currently have a Lowepro Mini-Trekker AW that has worked faithfully for many years and it shows no signs of wearing out. I have my 6x7 (with lens -90mm LS, extra lens -55mm and grip), 645NII (with lens -75mm and 2 backs), digital spotmeter and various accessories in it. That is probably stretching it a bit, but it is just storing them right now. I also have a great hip belt bag that holds one medium format camera or two 35mm/digital cameras and a lens or two. I can get the name if anybody is interested.

Finally, I have a Naneau Pro K3L backpack that I absolutely loved for hiking/mountain climbing, but I would steer clear as the build quality and customer service is seriously lacking.

Yeah, that would be a problem. Living near Denver does have its advantages! However, if a zombie plague or pandemic erupted, we'd be amongst the first to go :hmm:

Good post cheekygeek! However, eBay is very useful as well for finding local equipment. That's how I did it... I found an Omega D5 4x5 on eBay that was local, won the auction and went over and picked it up. The gentleman was a portrait photog selling all of his gear... So, not only did I get the D5, but a bunch of film, chemicals, papers, trays, and safelights. It was a heck of a score, for next to nothing. I am very happy to have my darkroom back up and running!

So, don't forget to use the eBay distance from me sorting option :)

I agree 100% on the 125PX. Great film! I like 320TXP as well. Too bad it was killed off, though I have 9 rolls of 120 left and a box of 4x5.

I also have had great results with HP5+ and FP4+. I develop it in HC110 dilution E mostly.

I'm sorry Steve! I didn't mean any disrespect. NO digital users here have disrespected me or anybody I've seen post here. As others have said, this just has not historically been the place to post film related information. Pictures get lots of responses from all walks, but film/darkroom stuff is currently better suited elsewhere.

Chris,
I couldn't agree more. I would certainly spend a lot more time here if there were a more active film/traditional darkroom forum. I'm just not sure it can happen with the digital crowd that hangs out here - no disrespect intended.

Those of us who seriously do darkroom stuff are better served over at apug.org. I do black and white and have a fully functional darkroom. I have found as you have that this is just not the place for that good stuff ;)

I would agree, it would be nice to have a Film Processing and Darkroom, but I just don't think the participation would be there on this site. I'll keep an eye out, but use APUG for the serious stuff and use this site for the digital.

For the record, I do love my K10D and *ist DS as well as my Pentax 6x7, 645nii, ME Super and my Speed Graphic!

Wow Tuco... Sounds a bit like by battle over the last couple of weeks. I got the same thing from Pentax USA. Shame on them for refusing to help their CUSTOMERS! Luckily, over at APUG they pointed me to a member who is in Japan and does equipment sourcing for people. Hopefully it all works out. I'll post back if I end up with one in my hands!

I cannot see that Pentax would just start up making these things again as the vast majority of people who buy the 645D will not be using 67 lenses. They will be buying new 645D lenses or using existing 645 ones. The 67 lenses are huge for the most part as is the adapter and you lose all of your auto-widgets (at least auto focus and auto aperture). This is probably a good thing, as 67 lenses should stay at reasonable prices!

I still find it really interesting that the pre-release sneak-peaks keep mentioning that this new camera can use 67 lenses with an adapter. It seems really odd to me when the adapter is so elusive.

Ah well, this is a dead horse I think. I'll get back to my looking :)
