Just ordered the DA 18-135mm WR

I received the lens yesterday through Amazon. I too will give my impressions and example photos.

My first impression is how VERY quiet the focus is! Focus is also very quick. As others have mentioned, this is just the perfect range for me so I'm hoping the IQ is far superior to the 18-250.

Question about K20D battery lifespan

The charge lasts a lot longer than I expected with the K20D battery so now I'm concerned about the extra 2 batteries I bought. Since they sit for a long time between uses, and lose some charge over time, does it shorten the lifespan to charge them again to full power if they aren't fully flat? Is there a way to discharge them fully out of the camera before recharging or is that not necessary and will not shorten the lifespan of the battery? Thanks for your responses.

Dedicated to the lovers of bicycles

Last weekend, as VP of BikeDE Advocacy Group, I manned our table at the Newark Delaware Street Festival. Maybe I'm biased, but all I saw was bicycles everywhere.

That's my bike, the sweet thing. The wind was so bad that we used our bicycles to anchor the tents down so they didn't blow away like hot air balloons. With over $6000 of bicycle mechanical ballast, it gave an artsy effect that pleased us.

This was my favorite photo of the day...a sweet Dad offers his fashion-conscious daughter advice on the correct placement of her reflective bicycle safety anklet.

K20D and panoramas

AeorDave, you are a jewel. I think you just saved me a lot of mishaps and fumbling around.

Is there such a thing as close-up panoramas? Still-life close, not bug close. For example fitting in a long span of moss, lichens, mushrooms, etc.

The K20D was my first venture into Pentax cameras coming from the Nikon world and I haven't looked back since. It's a fabulous camera and I can't believe how long the battery lasts. I was sick with pneumonia for a few months and didn't touch the camera. The battery in the camera and the two spares were still fully charged. After several days of shooting the level still is nearly full. Just amazing.

Have fun!

What a great post! I've been hankering to try panoramas and have just upgraded to a new computer with 12 GB of RAM and an obscene amount of hard drive space, etc, etc.

So I'll take your advice and give it a whirl. Thanks again.

That is one good looking pup that I'd love to squeeze. Did you have to do much cropping on that first photo. It's great.

I just bought an inexpensive (comparatively) 6mm fisheye lens and can't wait till the weather breaks to try it out.

Once again, just superb. Okay, tell me how many layers of clothing you had on to take these shots. My bones ache in Delaware if we only get two snowflakes. Do you have a sweater for your camera? :(

OH yeah! That's exactly what I mean. All are great but 2 and 4 stand all on their own, and are worthy of applause.

And Especially 4. Composition on it is perfect in my opinion. The light is perfect. What a find. Just think how much the photo wouldn't have worked if the mannequin had been more "normal" looking.

In #2, the hand looks so "alive" while the mechanical seam in the wrist lends to good confusion.

I don't know what this is called in sociological terms but the photo makes a statement about women in a subtle way that is disturbing because you aren't exactly sure what the photog intended so you tend to think about it even after you've stopped looking at the photo.

You do realize don't you, that now we are going to expect more intriguing series to follow, don't you? :)

Also. Take heart. Just think how much trouble you'd be in if Ninja Shopper had LBA.

That is a fascinating series. Very well done. It plays with perception, and is eerie as others have mentioned. I really like the close up sections that add to the series as a whole. If I were you, I think I'd be going back there to shoot some more for a very interesting addendum to the series. I'm sure your "shopper" would be delighted.

Wow, thanks, j.

I really like this thread since we get such smattering of different styles of street photography.

I love the B&W photos. They sesem to lend themselves especially well to street photography. Why is that? Does it somehow remind us of mid 1900's from a nostalgia point of view. I notice that you do a lot of B&W to great effect.

How do you and our other Black and Whiters decide, and when in the process do you decide you will be going to B&W? I venture there but always get sucked back to color.

Brave soul. I pondered it for a while then read were you'd be playing with fire if you screwed it up. So I passed for now. What's the procedure once you get into that mode?
