Thanks, that being said....if I use this lens with my Spotmatic F and the lens on auto, how will I know how the Aperture will be stopped?

If you don't mind my jumping in and asking a question.....
I just got a K1000 which came with a Takomar 50mm lens that is a 42mm screw mount. The body came with a K mount/screw mount adapter. The lens has the manual/auto feature. I noticed that in manual I can see the effect of F stop changes. My question is in auto, I don't (won't) see the effect of the F stop changes....consequently, how do I know how it's going to be stopped? Do I focus in auto and then to to manual to preview the exposure? Sorry if this is so simplistic but I'm still learning.

I paid $130 for the body, a 50mm lens and a removable screw mount adapter.
He demonstrated the shutters by clicking mine and the one I bought using the same shutter speeds. He also showed me on the shutter how it was wearing.
The scratches were on the focus screen. I hadn't noticed them before, I thought they were debris in the mechanism. He showed me that they were scratches and that they wouldn't come out with a cleaning.

I just wanted to pass on that I visited BP-ES photo repair in Reisterstown Maryland and was very pleasantly surprised. It's a small independent shop where they do all the repairs on site. I brought in my K1000 due to the bumper being gummed up. I had expected him to clean it and repair the seals etc but he showed me that it wouldn't be worth the cost. He showed me scratches I hadn't noticed and also showed me that my shutter was off time and sticking. I wound up buying a K1000 off of his shelf (he has a lot of used cameras) that was in almost perfect condition. He even installed an adapter to take screw lenses (Spotmatic) that I can take out myself. I was very pleasantly surprised. Info page |

Can anyone tell me how the features compare between the KX and the KM?

Ok, it seems that I've found the answer to my own question. Yes, it seems that I can get a split screen focus. I have the microprism one but it's a bit harder on my 42 year old eyes!

Hi, all, I'm new to the forum and recently have just started to get back into photography. I have a Spotmatic F and a K1000 (which I just got). The K1000's foam absorber recently started to deteriorate and I'm going to have to send it in for cleaning and repair. While it's in there I was wondering if I can have the focus screen changed. My dad had a Pentax which I thought was a K1000 but the focus screen on it was the "split screen" type which I prefer. Does anyone know if this can be done? Thanks in advance.
