Pentax S3 Autotakumar 85mm 1:1.8 Ilford FP3
This was the first photo I took with my S3 1961. Processed and enlarged in my darkroom the same year. I don't have a film scanner so I scanned the 50-year-old enlargement with a simple flatbed scanner. (Canon N1220U)

Filter thread is 62mm. The front lens is curved so I recommend using a step-up ring of brass with the filter. 62 / 62 for APS-C, 62 / 67 for film. Use a good hood.
It's a bit prone to flare, but IQ is excellent.

K10D high ISO isn't great but not too bad either.
DXOmark ISO scores are 522 for K10D, 811 for K-x and 1162 for K5.
That's approximately half a stop advantage for the K-x and one stop advantage for the K5, not two or three stops. Correct me if I'm wrong!

I can see noise in the K5 pictures. K10 pictures are absolutely clean.
(Raw, Lightroom 3, default settings.)
Now it's not the same pictures so I really hope I'm wrong. K5 is very tempting but low ISO IQ is important to me.

I downloaded the low ISO raw samples from the K5 and as far as my old eyes can see, ISO 100-200 from my K10D is better. Can anyone who owns both bodies give a comment?

The Auto Takumar 1.8 has 9 aperture blades. The Super-multicoated 1.8 has 8.

Well I already have a very good Auto-Takumar 85 mm 1.8, but this one came in my way and I couldn’t resist. What do you think? (About the lens)
Pict 1: f 1.8 1/60 sec ISO 200.
Pict 2: f 1.8 1/100 sec ISO 400. 25 mm extension tube.

One net shop is listing the Pentax SMC-DA* 60-250/4 ED (IF) SDM for skr 6180
(usd 908) ex tax here in Sweden. The SMC-DA* 300/4 must bee a bit cheaper to manufacture, so my guess is it will cost usd 750-800.

I only have the 1.7x so I can’t compare, but here is a picture taken with my FA 28-70 4.0 AL and the 1.7x. ISO 400, f/9.5, 1/350, 120 mm. Some flare from the front door windows, but if you look at the shadows you see where the sun is.

Well, I own the Pentax F 1.7 x adapter. How do you think it will play with my K10D and the coming SDM lenses? The adapter has seven contacts on the camera side but only six on the lens side.
