Some quick snaps with the new MX-1 Camera

Sorry lost interest already. Tiny sensor, no viewfinder option and high price. Not the "Digital MX" most of us were hoping for.:(
You'd think they would have learned from the Q, that this was a poor combination. The picture quality looks pretty good, but then it is just as good from some rival cameras costing $200+ less.
That price puts it in direct competition with the Sony RX100. That's a very tough place to be!

Very impressive high Iso noise performance for a compact. Struggling to get used to no viewfinder though.....
Snap shot at 3200 ISO 1/160 sec f2.2 handheld.

Correctly exposing a Flash exposure at 2m using f2 may be asking a bit much. How does it behave if you close down to f4 ( the max appature of the DA15)?

It would be nice to see some sample pictures with the new lenses.
You can stick them on any of the current bodies.
Seems a odd to announce a lens then have to wait until it hits the shops before you see any sample images. ( Unless it's no good of course.....:o)

Yes, and it's very welcome, but the speed is needed in the Wide to Standard range too IMHO.

Well I hope they come out with some FAST glass. A 1.something f stop would be nice. I'm fed up seeing f4 and f2.8 for their top of the line glass. (And preferably weather sealed )
Or just let Tokina release the 11-16 an 80-400 or whatever it is, in the pentax mount if Pentax aren't going to get round to doing it.
They need (very) fast glass in the 14 to 35 mm range and they need an Ultra Telephoto. It's a shame they have stopped offering the FA600mm this year. A weather sealed DA*600 would be a great addition to the line up.

The real price of a used FA 35mm f/2 by bhphotovideo

I have to agree , Pentax lens prices, at least in the UK are too high. Street prices jumped by 60% last year! The result of which was the 35mmLtd and the 50-135 I had planned to buy, didn't get bought, so that was £850 ( $1300) Pentax didn't earn. Yes they probably made that on the sale of just one 50-135 from someone with deeper pockets, but I bet the lens sales are wayyyy down, and it was a big gamble to gouge more profit from fewer sales. I almost hope it pays off for the sake of their future.( i.e. - having one)
As it turned out I spent a lot less on the Samsung versions of the 12-24 and the 100 macro. So I got a couple of bargains and Pentax lost some more revenue.
It's still currently cheaper ( in most cases) for me to order a Pentax lens from the States and pay 10% import duty and 17.5% tax than buy the same lens here. That's no way to run an international business.
I can't see me paying £850 for a lens that was £500 six months earlier. I just don't feel I'm that dumb, ( though that remains to be seen:rolleyes:) and that is Pentax's problem now. I'm sure I'm not alone on that front.

The lens issue would probably be the deciding factor. If it auto cropped the sensor when you put an APS-C lens on it then yes. If it meant more lenses then probably not, unless they came out with some FAST lenses, particularly telephotos to match.
All I want that we haven't already got is better high ISO noise performance( and maybe faster AF).
The next generation of sensor will hopefully sort that out. If it matches what the cough, C****7D, cough , appears to do then I'm staying with APSC.
I like the K7 size ( small is good!), much better than my K20
I like the resolution at 14.5MP
I REALLY like that I can use all my old film lenses.
I don't like spending money...........that I haven't got:o

Pentax 645D user manual leak

Well it's nice to see it pitched at 40MP which means it has to be taken seriously and is aimed squarely at the professional (studio) market, where the 645 was so popular before. I wonder if it has weathersealing for those Medium Format Landscape shooters - probably not.
(Shame Hasselblad have just announced a 50MP camera though)

Well I think this "Samsung" is the other Pentax camera that was due to be released before the end of the year.
Maybe Samsung are out to beat Pentax at the free publicity from a leaky launch.

HANDS ON WITH K7
Well I’m back from a brief visit to SRS. Marred only by my wife’s warning that I’ll be divorced if I come back with a Pentax box!
The K7 is VERY nice. In fact it's VERY VERY nice! Compact but solid. Strangely it doesn't feel very different to my K20 in the (right) hand. Which will be good news for anyone thinking it would be too small or hard to hold. I think this is because the grip dimensions are probably very similar but overall it looks quite a bit smaller.
It is VERY quiet and in drive mode it shoots VERY fast. I didn't see how long it took to slow down because I got fed up waiting after several seconds of rapid fire and didn't want to spend the next 5 minutes deleting frames! I didn’t try to check out all the functions as there were a lot of other people waiting to get their hands on it but it will be a big hit! Great viewfinder, proper live view WITH AUTOFOCUS!
Damn just realised I forgot to try the video mode. Doh!

It was pre production software and I thought image quality wasn't as good as I had been expecting but then I spotted I was in AV mode at f16 and 100asa taking shots indoors or out into an overcast street, so it was probably asking too much of the shake reduction!
All ( I think) of the current lenses were there too along with the new WR kit lens, which looks and handles very nicely and optically, (based on a couple of snapshots!) it looks to be pretty decent.
Then I put the DA* 60 –250 on and it all got very nice indeed! I was taken by surprise at how quickly it snapped into focus and completely silently, as far as I could tell in the shop anyway. That really is a very nice lens indeed. I had been hoping to buy the 35mm limited macro and the 50 –135 after I’ve paid for the summer holidays but the forthcoming price rises have scuppered that plan I fear. I also got to try the 50 –135 which I had been lusting after and must say I preferred it’s handling over the 60-250 but the extra reach of the longer zoom has made me less sure about which one to go for. Probably neither if I can’t buy them in the next couple of weeks as they’ll be well out of my price range then! I also tried the 35 limited and I must say I was very impressed. Very sharp and it focuses so close that I’d be afraid of bumping the front element!. Definitely need a filter on this one! This is right at the top of my must buy list now. (The 21 ltd is nice too, reminds me of my favourite 35mm on a film body) The only thing that could bump the 35 ltd as my next purchase is if we get a Pentax friendly version of the Tokina 11-16 . It doesn’t even have to be weather proofed, just put a K mount on it! Why are the Hoya cameras the only ones that can’t use this Hoya lens?!!
I had only intended buying some sensor cleaning swabs on my visit but I also came away with a very nice little manual focus Sigma 24mm superwide II. ( Well I had to feed my LBA after trying out all that lovely glass!) I’d been after one for ages on e-bay but always got pipped at the last second. I couldn’t believe my luck when I saw not one but two in the window and at a tenth of the price of the other lenses I was after…. And it meant I could avoid divorce as I wouldn’t be bringing home a Pentax box!
I tried it on my k20 as soon as I got home and it’s an absolute gem!
Anyway......The K7 is set to be a real winner. It's compact, solid, with nice clean lines, a bit like the old 1980's film bodies to my mind. It handles beautifully, nice big clear bright lcd with easy to read/follow menus, great viewfinder, very quiet, very fast in drive mode, lightning fast autofocus with SDM and the screw drive seemed faster than on my K20 too( although I didn't have anything to compare it to.)
Now I need to buy some lottery tickets……..

Sorry this was longer than I intended! :o

As we're about to be hit with a second 25% -50% Pentax lens price rise in four months here in the UK, just give me a kmount on the Tokina lenses ( and a plastic bag for WR) and I'll be happy.

No need for any of that really, just let Tokina stick a K mount on their glass!
Why should Canon and Nikon users get all the benefit of a Hoya company's R&D and for less money than Pentax users have to pay.( if we ever get the option to buy it that is):(

K-7 is old news. Howwill the K30D top that?

Well I guess the K7 really has put the cat amongst the pigeons.
It is better than the K20 so if the autumn camera is a K30 D how do they pitch it. The only thing I can see them doing to differentiate it from the K7 is keeping it a stills only platform, otherwise it encroaches on K7 sales. I think the next camera will be aimed at the k300 sector. A slightly improved K20 in a K200 sized body.

Unless the real surprise is that the K7 is the K200 replacement and the K30D really blows everything else out of the water!!

Don’t worry, I’ll wake up in a minute, just let me enjoy the dream for a little longer………:o

K7 was sooo close with 1920 x1080 HD. I think the K30D will be expected to have it now....
Hopefully they will include non JapAmerican frame rates! 25fps please.
Smaller body ( K-7 sized hopefully)?
Bigger sensor? Do we really need it?
100% viewfinder, with SPLIT PRISM as an optional OEM screen!!!!
Live histogram in VF etc...
WATERPROOF Limiteds!

Or do we need a K30D and just move on to the K6 or is it K8:confused:

Well the show's nearly over but the real fun is just about to begin. Despite the ( possibly) unintended leak yesterday Pentax must be pretty happy with themselves. They got free targeted advertising to almost half a million potential buyers.
I look forward to reading the real specs while enjoying a spot of " afternoon tea".
Damn civilised release time , chaps!
