Thanks again. I made certain my battery was fully charged as you suggested and fired off several shots with out any mirror flop. I then tried to load the firmware v1.21, But i was unable to un-zip the download from Ricoh. My usual double click did not work. Therefore when I attempted the upgrade it failed. I am using Windows 10 on my desktop and just can't adjust to Microsoft's so called improvements. My laptop is windows 7 so I will try it next.

Thanks For your quick response. You afraid you may be right that it is a hardware issue. But do you think doing a Firmware update is still worthwhile or would that have the potential to make matters even worse. I do also have a K5 and K20 both in good working order and I am mainly a landscape guy but the K3 is my birding choice and I will miss its tracking ability.I also thought I saw a post by Adam warning that the latest K3 Firmware had a bug.But that had to be 2 years ago as I have not been active on this site while traveling the last two years. Again thanks for your suggestion. A K1 is on my list just waiting for all the reviews and the bugs to be worked out.
Hope the weather in the nations capital improves soon.

Hi; I am getting confused. When I click Firmware Info/ Options in my K3 menu I get ver: 1.03. But when I go to the Ricoh website I downloaded ver: K3_v 121 as the latest firmware. But i don't find any comments in this thread regarding v.121. I am experiencing lots of mirror flop resulting in two or more duplicate images almost every time I press the shutter release. Annoying and time consuming to say nothing of the increased shutter count. I purchased the K3 on ebay last winter while wintering in Florida and did not have this problem with well over 3000 shutter releases. But this winter back home in Canada I visited a local waterfall on the coldest day of the year -20C. That is when I really noticed the problem and of the 200 or so images I took that day fully half made duplicates. I at first put this down to the extreme cold. And now in somewhat warmer weather have experienced the problem far less. My question really is, is v.121 the latest K3 firmware and will it solve this problem or was it he cold.?
Any advice anyone?

I picked up a slightly used (I hope) K3 last week. Have been more than impressed with the IQ and AF. Virtually all of the photos I have taken with it have been keepers but certainly not winners. . But I admit to been both overwhelmed by its complexity and range of options and am not impressed by the scaled down manual. Therefore I was happy to known that a book was available to help get the best from this remarkable camera. Please tell me the title and where I can purchase same.
Thanks

I notice on the serial number thread that very few problems are reported on the most recent cameras;ie highest serial numbers. Also did you keep your firmware up to date?
Just wondering but as a pro you have probably checked that stuff yourself.
Cheers

In the movie "Flash of Green'" Ed Harris plays a small-town newspaper reporter along the Florida Gulf, Jimmy is waiting for that “flash of green,” a Gulf mirage said to occur during sunset.
I can't remember whether he sees it in the movie or not. Perhaps the legend started and ended with the movie, one of Harris's first.
My eyes may have been playing tricks with me.

Wonderful shot. I lived in and around Destin for a number of years and will never forget the fantastic sunsets over the gulf .
I kept watching for the legendary " flash of green". I do believe , or want to believe, I saw it once or twice!
Please, please, tell me you've seen that green flash just a nano- second after the sun sets.
A believer

I have made this series a little more user friendly. Someone pointed out that there were too many repeats of essentially the same image. They were right and I have reduced the size from 17 to 7 . Hope this makes it more acceptable. The old link still works but for your convenience here it is again; Zenfolio | Richard D Kirkley | Early Morning Fog
C&C welcome,

I took this series of images of early morning fog a few years ago shortly after buying my first DSLR a Pentax K100D. They have languished in my "shoebox" far to long.
So the other day I imported them into LR3.3 and did a little PP. I then exported them to my Zenfolio site. They have been getting a fair amount of attention there, 250 views in 24 hours or so ( thats a lot for me on this site). So I thought folks here might like to take a peek and let me know what they think. the link for the gallery titled " Early Morning Fog'"is: Zenfolio | Richard D Kirkley | Early Morning Fog
If that doesn't work for you my website in zenfolio is:
RKirkley.zenfolio.com
I think the first gallery on my home page is the one I refer to. But you of course are welcome to browse thru the other over 2000 images as well. :)

It appears from some of the above that you folks just aren't reading the very clear rules Adam has provided. It only takes a few minutes and all your questions will be answered. Well most of them anyway:)
Every one have a nice holiday and don't sweat the details.

Adam: Thank you for the nudge. I have now ticked the right box in the options panel and am confident that I will henceforth know that my messages were sent. Also hopefully I will not have to ask too many more unneccessary questions.
But more to the point the seller was indeed recieving my messages and we are in contact. So all is well that ends well.
Regards and thank you for providing us Pentaxians with such a comprehensive forum.

Hi; I'm new to the buying and selling side of the forum. But when I sent a PM to a seller today nothing registered in my sent file. So I sent a second message with the same result. Am I doing something wrong or do these Personal Messages not appear in the sent file/folder in My account.
Sorry if I'm being a bit dense but it is frustrating to make an offer on an item you really want and not be sure the seller got your message or not.
Help please

Hi: I am new to lightroom having just downloaded LR3 Beta a few days ago.
Your presets interest me and I have downloaded the Autumn Trees and unzipped it.
But all my attempts to get it into LR3 have failed.
I clearly don't know what I'm doing:( Can you point me in the right direction.
Thanks

Hi: Thanks for this. Certainly the effect on the roof reflections is dramatic. But I am puzzled. I have always understood that a polarizer's effect is relative to its orientation to the sun. In fact as an air navigator I used that effect to determine the aircraft's true heading heading in the high arctic where compasses are not usable and the sun was still below the horizon.
When I use a circular polarizer on my cameras I always use the recommended technique of pointing my forefinger at the sun with my thumb held at a right angle. The rotation of the hand then indicates the plane of maximum polarization. 0 and 180 degrees give zero polarization, 90 and 270 the maximum.
However I am mainly using this approach to deepen the sky tones and have not used it very much to reduce reflections. I assume that the optics are similar and that the same relationships to the source of light would remain valid.
I am heading up north next week, but not to the high arctic, and will study the polarizers effect on lake reflections and leaves.
Thanks again. Hey that is a busy harbour ; no signs of a recession there.
