Thanks so much guys for responding! I appreciate all the advice and tips given here. I haven't said yes and I don't think I will. That's why I posted here. If I had wanted to really do it I would have said yes right away.
I get asked sometimes if I do weddings or would like to shoot weddings and I just cannot bring myself to say yes! I think I rather chase toddlers and settle newborns!
I have no problems shooting in natural light but I do not have enough experience using flash.

I've been approached by someone to photograph their wedding. This is not what I do. What I am familiar with is photographing children, families, newborns and maternity using natural light only.
My only concern is at the reception when the light is crappy. I do have flash but hardly use it. I have used it to bounce of ceiling but what do you do when the ceiling is very high?

So far I've only photographed 1 set of twins. Have a look at my website. Obviously not all the shots are there, just a few. http://thecolourinyouphotography.com.au/
For backdrops, I have the black polar fleece but I am not really a fan of backdrops. I prefer natural settings even outdoors. There is one prop that will come in very handy and that is a bean bag. Add to that, get some nice soft rugs, sheep skin etc.... stuff like that as they are great to add texture to your photographs. |

Yes, it's true that not all Pentax lenses are better than 3rd party lenses. However, the reason for my post is that in my circle of photographer friends, I hear so many woeful tales of not being able to afford Canon L series lenses or the Nikkor lenses because they cost a fortune. So they have to settle for the Tamron or Sigma equivalent. The Nikon 24-70mm (not exactly sure of the focal length but I think it is this) is more than AUD2500! The Canon 85mm f1.2 is almost AUD3000! Apparently there will be a price increase very soon and it will be over AUD3000!

Most of my friends use either Canon or Nikon. No surprises there. However, I noticed that most of the Nikon users (not so much the Canon users) end up with Tamron or Sigma lenses on their D300 or D700 body because the Nikon lenses are so darn expensive! While me with my K20D, I am able to afford quality Pentax lenses!
Ok, before you shoot me down on Tamron and Sigma lenses, yes I know some are really good quality but what's the point if you cannot afford the lenses from the same manufacturer made for your camera body?

I'd stick to my trusty 77 I think. The 85 is out of my reach. I was just curious since the Canon folks think it's the bees knees and rave on and on about it.
Would love to see comparisons between the Pentax and Zeiss.

Thanks for that! I have the 77 which I bought when I couldn't find the 85. Since it is so expensive I won't bother considering it. Those who have or have used both the 77 and 85, how does the 77 compare to the 85?

Canon users are raving about this lens. I know that there is an equivalent for Pentax but are they still in production or do I have to scout ebay for this lens?

I bought from Rainer's Camera House in the city (Brisbane). Their price is AUD1290 and I asked them to match the online price of AUD1239 and they did. Obviously this is the price for the body only. Now to sell the K10D!

Does anyone remember what was the price? I am thinking of upgrading. The best price I can get from the shop here in Aust. is AUD1239.00 . I wish I have a crystal ball! My heart says buy now, my brain says wait a little longer for the price to drop.

I might have to get the Tamron I think since it is such a gamble with the 16-50. I prefer Pentax. I have the Tamron 28-75 as I needed a zoom lens for my holidays and didn't want to carry my primes with me. That one is a bit of a hit and miss for me. I know that lots of members here rave about the Tamron 28-75 but I find that it is not as sharp as my 77ltd. So I am not too keen to get another Tamron if I can help it hence the 16-50. Can't say how disappointed I am that so many people have problems with it! :( My plan was to get this 16-50 and sell my Tamron 28-75.
