Hi,
A couple of Years ago i did something very much like the DIY project that Russel sugessted in his post... I bought a very lightweight ballhead from Ebay, and attached it to my walking stick using a screw, so that I can easily remove it if I wanted to. The reason why I used a ballhead, is that I prefer to use a quick remove plate to, well, quickly mount and remove my camery from the monopod...

Hi,
I had a simmilar experience when traveling to Australia. All my films, except the one with the underwater shots form The Reef were OK, but the film with underwater shots was ISO 800 AND I forgot it in my checked luggage... Dang! The film was affected by X-rays. It is nearly unusable now, I did make the prints from it, but they are just horrible... So my advice would be, as others have already stated: Never put Your films in checked luggage. Hand luggage scanners seem to be OK for films ISO800 and bellow - that is my experience.

Wow, great prizes and an interesting way to win them :-)
But, I fear that there will be some who will not be able to resist the temptation to post really meaningful posts just to ram their post count up... alas, let's hope that this competition generates much more good posts that bad ones :-)

After a few unpleasant surprises re battery logevity in cold weather I decided to do a kind of unscientific test with different type of rechargeable batteryes. Bear in mind, that I use K100D, so the results might be different for K20 or even K10.
I found out that the best were Eneloops, that did not let me down at all. They lasted 3 hours of shooting in a very cold environment (ca. -8°C), while with other type of battery (Ansmann and GP) I could get maximum 45minutes (Ansmann) and only 30 minutes (approx.) with GP...
I hope that this helps...
Best regards,

Hello,
I just found out, that today we have quite a special moment happening :-) Besides being the New Year's evening, we will have a "Blue moon" that happens only every few years, and on top of that, partial lunar eclipse will be visible from Europe, Africa and Asia...
More info here: December 2009 lunar eclipse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I hope, that the sky will clear here, so that I can take a few photos of this very rare ocassion.
Wishing You all A very happy New Year 2010!

Hello Mike,
Check out Tokina SL-17. I use it on my ME Super and it's a great wide lens. See Third party lens reviews and Tokina's web site for more info. There are not so many of these lenses on Ebay (which in itself speaks something about the lens quality :-), but when they do show up, they go for something like 50-60 EUR, which is in my opinion a very fair price for such quality lens.

Hmmm... I would go wit theory, that this is probably some sort of EMI/RFI interference. Probably form some radio/TV transmitter, radar, or GSM telephone...

Hello,
Ansmann has a a respectable collection of battery grips for all the big players in tphotography (digital anyway). There is also a grip for K100D which I was considering a while ago, but decided to spend the extra money on a new lens instead for a grip. Have alook here: ANSMANN AG: Battery grips
Grip for K100D: ANSMANN AG: P-100
Hope this helps,

Well, as someone already pointed out: all split prism focusing screens will start to black out somewhere. Some start to black out af f/4 and some go to f/8 or even f/11 before one of the prisms blacks out.
I have never used the cheap ebay screens nor have I used KatzEye screens, but I was seriously considering them, before someone on this forum directed me to this web page: Focusing Screen
I ordered a K3 type screen with rules of thirds for my K100D, and it costed a bit more that half of the price for KatzEye screen. I must say, that I am impressed with the screen. In good light it will not black out until f/11 in dimmer lighting conditions the blacking appeares at arround f/8. All in all I am very satisfied with the result. Highly recommended!
There is a trick to "stretch" the black-out effect a stop or two: reposition your eye on the viewfinder so that You are looking straight through the center of the line between two prisms. Test it out Yourself and see the difference. This will work on every split prism screen. Also the cheap ones from ebay.

:-) it survived... more than one time, I believe it was about 10 or 15 shots, before I got suspicious and started the thread. After I measured the voltage, I have never again used it on my K100D. But I use it regularly on my ME Super.

Yep, that is what I do, when walking with Super Takumar 300/4 + Teleconverter...
I Was looking for something more comfortable and more usefull that stock Pentax strap, preferably something that also attaches to the lens mount, since I am a bit concerned about the strain put to the bayonet mount in the K100 Body......
Any advices?
