I just bought this from the eBay machine, and as others have said, can't find a single thing on the tubes about it and the S/N isn't in any Vivitar lens database that I've seen, and I have seen a lot of them.
Billed by the seller as the Kino version. I have the black M42 37xxx Cosina flavor, which is probably newer, that I like pretty well. But this one is so beautiful and pristine looking, including the inspection sticker, that I couldn't resist the $30 price tag.
Anybody know anything about its performance?
Thanks for your help!

Well, I've been through this whole thread, and unless I just missed it, didn't see anything from or about the Vivitar M42 300mm beast. Anyone have or had this one? What's the verdict?
Thanks!

Yeah, I guess I'm with you, Rio. I really don't have the skills or the desire to hack into the Yashica with only HOPE that it would still be functional on a Pentax. So, I think I'll sell it as a Yashica. I paid only $10 for it at a local antique mall. Surely it will turn a bit of a profit elsewhere. This little gem can help finance a nice Pentax mount macro instead.
I got my son an older (1990s w/Ricoh pin that I removed) Sigma 50/2.8 macro that he fell in love with at first shutter click. I also have a Kobori Vivitar 70-210 that does 1:1 macro at 210mm. Wow! I've used it successfully handheld (shock!), and though it's slender, it's a bit heavy and long for me. Very sharp, though, and legendary Vivitar buttery smooth bokeh!
If anyone is interested in the Yashica macro, let me know!

Have been researching this lens conversion for some time now as I just picked up a very nice Yashica ML 55mm f2.8 macro lens that does 1:1 standalone (no additional adapters needed), and I'd love to use it on my K100D.
Reviewed Wong's Y/C to M42 conversion and I'm sure I can do that easily enough. So today, I picked up a Hanimex M42 with a stuck aperature because it has 4 screws holding it to the lens body exactly like my Yashica does, and they look to be positioned in exactly the same places in both lenses so maybe I wouldn't have to do any drilling, etc.!
My concern is the two levers that control the aperature blades of the Yashica 55mm. When I extend the Yashica 55mm all the way out, you can see down inside that both these levers also extend all the way to the front of the lens. I have a Tomioka 60mm f2.8 macro in M42 mount that doesn't have those; however, the two aperature rings on that lens (one clicks, the other is stepless) are located on the front edge of that lens.
My question is What happens to the two lever arms in the 55mm when you change the mount to M42? Is such a conversion of that lens not possible because of those? Is converting the 55mm to PK the only possiblility?

A bit late to this discussion, but hey...
I just bought an "Auto Sears" 55mm f1.8 - F16 in M42 screw mount "Lens made in Japan". Reading through this thread, it doesn't seem to fit the descriptions of either Mamiya made or Ricoh made Sears lenses.
I wouldn't call it a "gem", per se, but it is nonetheless a very nice lens. Excellent bokeh, all metal construction, not sure about the coating but it resembles that of the Super Taks though it's not yellowed that I can tell, ridged/knurled focusing ring that's every bit as smooth as the Taks, has the Auto/Manual switch, and 52mm filter thread.
Any thoughts on the manufacturer of this lens?
Thanks in advance!

I have two Viv 70-150mm one-touch zooms - one for my Pentax, the other for my Canon AE-1 Program. Both are sweet! Love them to death! The serial for the Pentax is 22007xxx -
22=Kiron (Kino)
0 = 1970, 1980, 1990
07 = 7th week of its year of production (February) The Canon flavor serial is 28034xxx
28=Komine
0 = 1970, 1980, 1990
34 = 34th week of its year of production (August)
What years did Kiron contract with Vivitar?
What years did Komine contract with Vivitar?
How do you determine the 3rd version of the S1 70-210?
Lastly - WHERE ARE ALL THE OTHER SERIES 1 VIVS????? Nearly all those I see all the time are the 70-210mm; rarely any of the others!
Come on, people! Turn loose of some of them! :lol:

A little late to this thread but found it when researching this lens last week.
OMG. Have two Vivitars I love so much they will be buried with me when the time comes. A Kiron 135mm and a Komine 70-150 one-touch PP, both in Canon FD because I haven't been able to snag these in K mount - yet. I never thought I'd ever find anything I'd love as much as either of these, especially that 70-150 - so petite yet rugged, sharp, true color capture, spectacular bokeh.
They'll have to make room in my coffin for this PK 75-150 now.
These were taken this afternoon with it on a K20D and only downsized for posting. This weekend, I try it out on some classic 'rods with my ME Super and a couple rolls of Ektar.
I paid $15 on fleabay for my copy because its only flaw is a minor dent in the hood. Meh.

Thank you very kindly, Mono. I have a pristine K2 and will never part with it. It does have the serial number engraved on the top plate with black numbers, has the AOCO logo above the Asahi above Pentax on the prism, and is engraved "Asahi Opt. Co. Japan" on the back of the top plate. K1000 REVISION:
(I was going by the eBay photos and the seller's responses to my questions. I have it in hand now.)
Does NOT say "Asahi Opt. Co. Japan". The "Japan" is missing.
The serial number and location of it is the same - numbers are in black.
The bottom is engraved "Body Assembled in Hong Kong". Lettering is unpainted.
All else is the same.
And in very nice condition, too, I might add, though as expected, I had to replace all the seals and mirror damper.

Not to create confusion but...
It's been said that Pentax moved its K1000 (?) operations from
manufacture/assembly Japan
manufacture Japan/assembly Hong Kong
manufacture/assembly Hong Kong
Was it just the K1000? Because my K2 has all the telltale info of a first-run Japan/Japan K1000.
Asahi name above the Pentax name
AOCO logo above the Asahi name
"Asahi Opt. Co. Japan" on the upper right corner backside of the top plate
Serial number on the left side of the prism, front edge of the top plate
Serial begins with 787
All metal top and bottom plate
No surviving "Passed" sticker
Does anyone have a history of the K2 line?
Sorry to post in this thread, but my son wants a K1000 so researching led me here and then the serial no. database further led me to more closely examine my K2 and discover the similarities of the markings.
Thanks for any info!
