Seeking advice on focusing screen (split screen) for K200D

Thanks for the info, everybody. I'm still concerned about spot metering with slower lenses, so I remain undecided.

What's the big deal with full frame?

I'd like to hear an explanation why full frame is a big deal (or even desirable). As I understand it, there are two aspects to FF. The first is that the same lens on FF will give a wider field of view than on conventional digital. So? If you want a wider FOV switch to a wider angle lens, or take a step back. If not possible, then tough, but by the same token if you have a FF camera and want the narrower FOV, you'll have to change lenses or move in. They're different, but why would FF be considered better?

The second aspect is pixel density. Given that you are going to shoot the exact same scene, and both cameras have the same pixel density, the FF sensor will contain 2.25 times more pixels (assuming a crop factor of 1.5) than the conventional digital one. So you'll be able to enlarge 1.5 times more (for the same print quality). But all that means is that you want more pixels. Instead of saying "I want FF" just say "I want twice the pixels."

So what am I missing here?

Seeking advice on focusing screen (split screen) for K200D

I've seen some scattered posts on replacing the camera's focusing screen with a split screen, but it was pretty confusing for me. I'm hoping to get clear and definitive answers from people with experience by asking concrete questions.

First, my gear.
Camera: K200D
Lenses:
MF: Pentax-A 50mm f/1.4, Sigma 28mm f/2.8 Mini-Wide II
AF: DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL II (kit), DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED

Now the questions.

1. I understand AF should not be impacted, but just to be sure I'll ask. Is auto-focus (speed or accuracy) affected by the focusing screen?

2. Given that my AF lenses have no aperture ring and my MF lenses have the A setting, I don't expect to be doing stop-down metering. Will light metering be affected? I'm very concerned about this.

3. I've seen talk about the screens thickness causing front or back focusing. Is this a real issue? I'm also very concerned about this.

4. Any thoughts on Katz-Eye vs. cheap Chinese screens?

5. Any thoughts on Katz-Eye's opti-bright option?

6. I have an old beat-up K1000 which I can cannibalize. Would its focusing screen fit the K200D? Would it be advisable to use it?

7. Any thoughts on horizontal vs. diagonal split screen? With the K1000 I often had a hard time finding a vertical line to focus on. I ended up doing a lot of aim-focus-recompose or tilt-focus-tilt back, but even that was not always possible (especially in shallow DOF situations). It seems to me that a diagonal screen would offer more focusing opportunities, but apparently it is not the standard. What are its downsides?

Many thanks in advance.

What does the DSLR do with the focal length info when using MF lenses?

When I mount an old MF lens (e.g., Pentax-A 50mm) on my K200D it asks me to dial in the lens' focal length. What does the camera do with this info? I tried entering different focal lengths for the same lens and it didn't seem to make any difference to photo taking.

AC adapter for K200D

I bought an el-cheapo 7V, 2.5A adapter on ebay and it seems to work fine. (Didn't do extensive testing, though; just plugged it in and played with the camera a bit.) The DC plug is slightly loose in the camera's socket, but makes good (and continuous) contact. It's just held a little less firmly than what would be ideal.

The adapter is designed for use with a bunch of Kodak cameras. It even has "Kodak" and "Made in Japan" printed on it (which I don't believe for a second). The model name is KWS0725 (that's Kodak's model name). I bought it at
AC Adapter Kodak Camerdock I Camerdock II DC-SERIES - eBay (item 260385376677 end time May-28-09 12:10:33 PDT)
for $6 + (rather expensive) shipping.
