As a photoshop elements user I enjoy Topaz Detail (great sharpening), topax denoise (great grain removal) and to a less extent, topaz lens and topaz adjust.

As an owner of the FA77mm and FA31mm, thse two lens travel everywhere with my K-1. Sharpness and color rendition. What else could one want? Oh, their metal construction is awesome, they are light and very fast.... Now what else could one want?

Glad to be of help. I really find that shooting with one camera while the buffer of the second camera clears is one of the biggest assets to this approach. Keep that shutter finger workin'

My answer? Take two cameras. When I aerialshoot, I take one with a FA77mm and the other with a FA31mm. No zooms, no lens switching and importantly less stomach upset as I attempt to frame a shot. Other advantage, I shoot with one camera while the buffer clears on the second.

As a K3 and K1 owner, who shoots a lot with a DA300mm, I find the K1 in both crop and full frame mode to be superior. Reason - improved autofocus....

I shot with a FA20mm (~ 14mm equivalent on crop camera) this weekend. The UWA is already here.

First and foremost -
Thanks to all who offered suggestions about what to see at the Grand Canyon. Your advice was really helpful given my short stay at the rim.
While there I began playing with HDR photography (i.e., combining -2, 0, and +2 EV images from a camera on a tripod with the Photomatix software).
Now at home I thought a side-by-side comparison would be interesting. So, the 0EV image was processed to the best of my ability with Photoshop Elements and then saved as a jpeg.. The second is the HDR image (i.e., combining 3 images), tone mapping, saving as a tiff and then opening in Photoshop Elements for a bit more of a touch-up before saving as a jpeg.
While the two images are pretty similar. prints from the tiff images show differences.
So what do you think?

I shoot a bunch of stuff for Jamestown Rediscovery and a bit of Colonial Williamsburg. I love how the higher-ups comment, "gee your stuff has a style all its own and the colors are so vibrant".... Lovin' the K5...
P.S. shot an entire program on ISO 3200 (I had to the light level was so low). Afterwards I shot a number of stills with the flash at ISO 400. While the colors were clearlly more alive at the ISO400, I was truly pleased by the absence of grain at ISO3200. In addition, the natural lighting really showed up the costumes at 3200...
Perhaps "rare" and "who cares" rhyme for a reason.

Not certain how many remember the wonderful series natured offered before in the battle between a Red Tailed hawk and a Mockingbird.
Today I had a similar opportunity today with an immature bald eagle and a blue jay. Unfortunately the light was low and I was unable to get in closer for the Nat Geo shot. While technically flawed, hopefully its worth a moment of your time. Below is an image the same immature bald eagle about 2 hours later...
Thanks for peeking....

Thanks again for the kind and insightful comments. At the risk of disclosing intellectual property, the handle is as follows. One takes any common tool handle (I used a plastic handle from a paint roller) and after removing the metal component, I inserted a 1 3/4" length 1.4" 20 - metal screw into the plastic part of the handle. This was secured via a nut on the top. Expoxyed to the top was a plastic washer (I used one of the plastic pieces placed on chair legs to reduce floor scratches. This protects that contact point between the handle and the lens shoe. What one ends up with is a handle that screws into the Da300m tripod shoe which makes it much easier to grab the camera for quick BIF or BOF tracking events....

I thought people in an near the DC Metro area might appreciate this unique opportunity to see a major Great Blue Heron Rookery and Bald Eagle nest.
The first image is a map of the Great Falls National park which is at the end of MacArthur Blvd in Potomac, MD.
Once parked, one crosses to the toepath via the bridge at the Great Falls Tavern. Once across the bridge one turns right (north) away from the Olmstead Island and walks about 30 yards north. At that point you will see (on the left) a concrete trail marker for the River Trail. After you walk down to the river (about 25 yards), across the river (see point #1 on the map) is an occupied Bald Eagle Nest. To give you an idea of distance, the first shot is with a DA-300mm uncropped and the second is the Da300mm at 100%.
Another 50-100 yards down the trail (around #2 on the map) you see the first of several Great Blue Heron nests across the river. From the satellite maps it appears to be 400-500 yards. To give up an idea of the type of glass you will need, here are shots of the Rookery that are either uncropped or 100% cropped.
Enjoy! |
