My K-3 arrived yesterday and snapped a couple of quick pictures (no pp, just cropped, not resized. f/6.3, ISO 400, 1/400, DA 200mm lens)....IQ sure looks good to me.

Thank you Marc. I thought it was a good shot, but wasn't sure how it would compare with any of the others, as this is my first time to enter a photography contest. Yes, I am in NWA too (Rogers). I'm a High School teacher and sponsor our photography club. Maybe you'll be judging some of our student's work in the coming years? I hope so. I'm also glad to know you are on this forum.

I received word last night via email that my entry into the Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas had won in the 'Travel' category (see photo below) and will compete against 13 others for 'best in show.' While I'm very happy about this personally, I'm just as happy that Pentax was represented well in this contest. I'm glad that my K10 can, not only hang with the Nikon and Canon crew, but even edge them out. :D

red eye removal in ACR and Ps3

Can someone tell me why I can't get the red eye removal tool in ACR and Ps3 to work? It's a relatively simple task I know. I've used the the spot heal tool without any difficulties. Here's what I'm doing:

1) click on the red eye icon
2)make my pupil and darken settings
3) Move cursor (a cross) over the pupil area. (shouldn't the cursor be a circle?)
4) left click on pupil
5) and nothing changes.

When my sound is on, when I click it makes a funny ringtone sound indicating that that nothing happened. I'm sure I'm not doing something but for the life of me I don't know what. I bet it's something pretty obvious too. Any help would be, well, helpful. Thanks.

I saw a Pentax dslr in a WalMart store about a year + ago. I live just down the road from the home office of WalMart, so we get stuff that a lot of other stores never do. They sometimes use the local stores as a test for certain products. I was surprised to see it. It was the ist, not the k10. But the people working the counter couldn't tell me a thing about it when I asked.

Not sure if this goes here. Mods feel free to move if necessary....

Next week I'm purchasing both photoshop CS3 and lightroom. I understand their different uses (at least in general terms), but I'm very curious about the slideshow feature in lightroom itself. I'd like some impressions/comments about it. Does it produce great/good/decent/poor slideshows? What's your take? Also if you have a link to any lightroom slideshows that I could view, that would be great too. Thanks in advance. :D

Okay, I see. Lesson learned, check manual first. Got it. I did make that change awhile back and these are the first photos I've taken since then. Now I feel silly. And, if you wouldn't mind, could you answer one more question for me? My last picture was numbered 5464. I've had my camera now for one year. Is there any number of pictures per year that is considered "average"? I guess I just want a sense of what is considered "heavy" usage per month or year. Again, thanks.

Greetings all. Hope someone here can explain this one to me. Until now whenever I open my sd card on my computer to view my photos, all the file names show as "IMGPxxxx (where x = a number). Today however when I opened my sd card I notied the file names showed "_IGPxxxx" instead. What on earth would cause this? Is this evidence that my camera, a K10 (one year old this month) is about to fail? It's not just doing this on one sd card either. It does it on both, and one is only a month old. Not sure that matters, but I thought I'd include that tidbit anyway. Suggestions/explanations appreciated.

I just did a CCD sensor clean using a hurricane blower and this is what I got. It's an improvement but some dust remains. I turned the tone up on purpose just to see any shadows. Does anyone clean their own sensors using professional products or do you send yours off to be cleaned? Just askin'....

Sensor cleaning is tricky stuff and will have to investigate it more throughly. My buddy worked with a professional photographer who showed him how to do it and cleaned his for him. Thanks guys.

These 3 circled areas clearly show blotches of something, but exactly what I do not know. Dust? Or is there something more serious going on here? I cleaned my lens just before shooting these and performed a dust removal function with the camera itself (k10). And what do you suggest to get rid of them? Anybody? It really bums me out man! :(

Is this photo the real deal?

I'm inclined to think it's a fake, at least in large part. Anybody know anything about this photo? Is it the real deal or some sort of post-processing trickery? From what I do know, it was taken this past March in or around Kansas.
