I am also waiting for the next top APS-C model. I need a replacement for my aging GX20. I am hoping that Pentax will catch up with time and deliver a camera that is good for video as well. If not I may go the Canon route with the 80D :(

I had a real treat around midnight on Friday. We have had cloudy skies for a very long time but then it cleared up. I headed out to my dark spot where I usually do my astrophotography. It is about 20 km away from city lights so it is rather dark. My camera is old and the only lens I have for wide angle shots is the slow kit lens. So taking crisp shots of stars is without the question since I get startrails or really noisy images as a result. But I can turn that disadvantage to something good, startrail photos. When startrails is what I strive for I can take shots with a low ISO and a long shutter time and get a bit less noise.
Anyway, I live north of the Arctic circle in northern Sweden. It was about -28c when I took the 40 or so photos that I blended together in Photoshop. So what you see is all that happened on the sky for 20 mintures. The whole procedure took about 90 minutes with all the settings fiddeling and all the time the camera took for processing the shots. Although I had dressed really warm I had to walk around all the time to prevent starting to freese. I had a really good time watching the northern lights, shooting stars and listening to the radio while the camera did the work. These moments is really like nourishment for the soul. Even though I am reall happy with the result to me the chase is more important than the catch.
Also in cold weather radio controlled remote shutters is a bliss!

I got my GX20 for three reasons
- Lower pricepoint than cameras from other brands with the same weather sealing. Heck I even paid a bit less than the identical K20D also at the same camera store because of the Samsung logo :D
- The possibility of using legacy lenses with in camera body anti shake.
- No scene modes. It just felt much more serious than other cameras at the same price range.
Will my future camera be a Pentax? That depends I am not a brand loyalist but at the moment it looks like that will be the case.

Perhaps there is a more recent thread around but this is what I found.
At the moment I'm on paternity leave with my son ( who is 1 year old ). I've been at home with him frome September and will start working again in April. There are some perks with living in a socialistic nanny state :D
Anyway, I work as an environmental inspector. I investigate industries, car work shops, stone quarrels, oil spills and such. We are often called out to bigger road accidents to make sure that leaked fuels are taken care of. There is also a less inspiring part of the job of neighbours blaming each other for misplacing their trash bins, feeding deers and what not.

If it handles low light sitiatuions extremly well and has a low noise level at high ISOs I would not be bothered with "only" a 20 megapixel sensor or the lack of 4K video. You dont spend that much money ton a DLSR if 4K shooting is a major concern. Would make much more sense to buy an actual 4k capable video camera.

Winters in southern Sweden are also more rough than those we got up here imo. Around -4C but with a high humidity is far worse and colder than the dry chill of -25C. Btw you are the third Swedish k-mount shooter I've heard of/seen for 5 years in the real world and on the internet.

I live in northern Sweden. 100 km north of the Arctic circle. To give American Pentaxians something to relate to. That is about 700 km north of Anchorage, Alaska. There is a Swedish saying that goes "There is no such thing as bad weather, just poor choice of clothing". I have been out taking photos in rather cold temperatures. The attached images shows my standard winter boots and mittens next to the more serious ones I use when I head out to do some astrophotography. When it is dark and clear skies up here it is often very cold. When it is warm and cozy during summer we have daylight 24/7 so I'm stuck with doing what I love the most in the world of photography while freezing. The second attached image is how my camera can look like after operating around -30C. To spare my fingers for getting frost bite I am using a radio remote to operate the shutter which I have inside my big down filled mittens.

Losing a family member is tough. But after a long time with severe sickness passing through the door to the afterlife is a relief from the pain. I lost my father during similar circumstances. You have my condolences.

My Samsung GX20 current shutter count is close to 50 000. As it's twin the K20D It is showing it's age with sluggish AF and poor high ISO capabilities but all in all it is a fantastic camera that has never failed me once. Though it didn't really like shooting at -31C, but that is OK in my book. All the moments this camera has captured just buggles the mind. The birth of both my children, distant galaxies, comets, sandy beaches in South America, the frozen arctic tundra a serious of portraits of my father before he passed away. When it eventualy dies it will be replaced with a Pentax DLSR. But I will always keep this camera as a memory.
I don't fancy the mirrorless route and I'd like to keep using the second hand K-mount primes I've collected over the years.

If you think Pentax is rare try using a Pentax camera with a Samsung logo attached to it ( I have the Samsung GX-20 ). I usually have to examplain that I am a K-mount guy to other Pentaxians who usually never have heard of my camera. Once at work I had a conversation about photography with a man who had been using Canon for 30+ yearas. He got almost shocked/offended by my choice of camera. Fanboys are just sad when they take their brand and "life style" to an almost religious level and try convert/preach for everyone else.

I've been observing and taking photos of comet Lovejoy during several occasions the last weeks. I'm using an aging Samsung GX20 ( the twin of Pentax K20D) with rather poor high ISO capabilities so don't expect what you have perhaps seen NASAs Astronomy Photo of the day site. Nonetheless some of the shots I'm quite happy with so I thought I'd share them witih you guys. For the first two I used the SMC Pentax-M F1.7 50mm lens and for the third the Takumar F2.5 135mm lens. The two first were taken with a shutter speed of 8 seconds and the latter 6 seconds.
The comet is the green blub in the middle of the frame.
The green mass to the right is the northern lights. It was a truly amazing display of the northern lights just out of the frame. You can sort of hint the comet's tail in this photo.
A lot of noise going on but I like how the composition turned out with the Pliades and Lovejoy in the corners and the shooting star in the centre.

To be able to find old lenses for a reasonable price that I can easily use on my DLSR is one of the main reasons why I went the K-mount route. I have for years been looking for older second hand prime lenses to use with my Samsung GX-20 ( the K20D’s syster model).
I’m not that keen on buying vintage lenses online since I want to see them with my own eyes before I make a deal so I’ve had to rely on scavenging flea markets and second hand shops or online ads where I can go and meet the seller in person. I've not had much luck with those options of finding lenses since Pentax isn’t that big in Sweden due to Canikon being the mainstream’s camera of choice.
However, last weekend I went to a flea market and spotted an SLR and some lenses at a distance on a table. I pinched my arm when I saw that it was a Pentax ME bundled with three lenses
It’s fun to own a ME but that camera will be nothing more than a interior ornament in my flat. My main focus was on the three K-mount prime lenses. I asked the seller what he wanted for the lot. He said 300 SEK (46 USD). I asked him if he knew that they were in a working order, he didn’t. I used that as a reason to haggle down the price a bit to 200 SEK (31 USD).
All the lenses work flawlessly and they seem to be in good condition.
Takumar 135mm F2.5,
Smc Pentax-M 50mm F1.7
Smc Pentax-M 135mm F3.5
Having in mind that all those lenses can cost more than 100 USD each on ebay if in mint condition I’d say that it was money well spent!

They used a video camera that recorded 500 frames a second, so 30 seconds of launch becomes 8 minutes of movie footage. There is a narrator explaining what is happening during the launch. Pretty darn cool if you ask me!

I'm wearing glasses all the time. My sharp view of vision without aid stops after 10 cm.
I don't like pooking in my eyes so lenses is not an option for me.
Some day when laser surgery is safe enough in my book I might consider it. I don't fancy the idea 1/1000 getting a permanent tripple vision :fedup:

I actually think the outcome for such a vote would be similar in Sweden, even though our politicians does their best to condemn the vote of the Swiss people or anyone saying anything hinting criticism against Islam as being not political correct.
This strife of being political correct by politicians and the media actually makes the situation worse. Since ordinary people are getting sick and tired of the situation where more immigrants than successfully can be integrated in our society is allowed to stay here. Some of these immigrants, though a minority, have no interest in adapting themselves to Swedish society and often flat out despise our way of life. So the common folk are asking themselves, if the Muslims can’t bend their ways to fit our society why should we adapt to them?
When the mainstream political parties don’t want to touch this subject it increases the popularity of more extreme and hostile flat out racist parties, which I is a very scary development which I entirely blame our gutless politicians’ for.
Shaping society after ancient religious writings is something utterly absurd that belongs to the medival ages in my book no matter what religion it is.
