Had two Sigma 70-300's, the first was the standard version and subsequently a Red Ringed APO version both purchased new. From the get-go, felt the original 70-300 represented poor quality and produced disappointing results. This thought ultimately led to the trade to the APO version which was slightly better but not stellar. At the time, the attraction of the Sigma lenses was to get basic telephoto capabilities (with autofocus) at an affordable price.. With these lenses, the ability to switch to a macro focus was a plus and this aspect was probably my most used feature. Today, I use either the Sigma 70-200 or the 150-500 for telephoto interests and happy to say the quality of these more modern lenses has dramatically improved. The APO 70-300 quietly sleeps in the drawer most days now only seeing the light of day on a lark.

It's been a while since I played with it but have the Sigma USB lens dock. Any Pentax K mount lens will connect to it mechanically, just not electronically. When you connect the mount to the computer it directly connects to the Sigma web site. Additionally, when the dock is connected to the computer, there is no notation of that USB connection in the computer's "tree" (similar to plugging in a keyboard, printer, etc.) When auto focus Pentax or older Sigma lenses are connected to the mount, there is no recognition. It seems that the Sigma dock will only work with the more recent (now obsolete for Pentax) Sigma lenses. For me, the only lens I have that could "work" with the system is the 18-35 ART lens. When a recognized lens is installed, it opens to a Sigma web page for that lens and provides the options such as firmware, focus adjustments, etc. It looks like there has never been a firmware upgrade for my ART lens leaving only the focus correction as an option available (something my copy doesn't need). I've kept the dock in the cupboard hoping that perhaps Sigma will reconsider their Pentax position or that they offer firmware or coverage for the older lenses at some point or some enterprising person finds a way to hack into this device. It is my understand that there are files and electronic adjustments available to the Sigma service centers but these are not publicly available.

Recently "upgraded" to a Benq SW240, it's 24" 1080P on a Windows 10 operating system. Mostly use PhotoShop for post-production. Over the years, have had quite a few monitors, all "good" but was looking for something that would embrace a higher percentage of Adobe RGB (this one is 99%...most of the others were rated at around 70-75% Adobe but 100% sRGB. The deciding push factor was the Black Friday price and a local dealer with inventory. To be honest, was somewhat skeptical as to how much better it would be over the priors but the "pop" this monitor brought to the colours proved the investment.

I've been a ON1 customer probably since the inception, initially searching for something to replace the Adobe suite when they were planning to go to a high-priced subscription model. ON1, to me, is very similar to Lightroom's functionality (with a big focus on cataloguing) but considerably more user friendly. Having said that, I prefer a PhotoShop based workflow over ON1 and still detest the quirks of Lightroom (always thought it was just Photoshop Lite).
With respect to ON1, two irritants remain; even thought I am a paid customer, they continue to send a constant flow of emails to upgrade to the product I already have and secondly, where there is an option to link a camera within the program, ON1 only offers Nikon and Canon (where Lightroom will accommodate a Pentax camera). The AI is interesting (both with ON1 and PhotoShop) but I'm not ready to give up control and, particularly with ON, the function serves only as a method to stimulate potential rather than accomplish the task.

Originally purchased this lens as a replacement to my Tamron 17-50 mostly to accommodate full-length portraiture. As an aside, I had been disappointed with the Tamron, everything about it seemed second rate compared to the Tamron 28-75 which had been my go-to lens for many prior years. The Sigma ART seemed to offer a solution and, although pricey ( I was an early adopter), it was everything it claimed (and far better quality than some of the Sigma lenses I had previously owned). The Sigma had a steep learning curve but rapidly became one of my favourite lenses on the APS-C bodies. Any focusing issues I experienced could be attributed to my mistakes. The technology of the K-3 III bought a new life to all of my lenses (in varying degrees) but none as much as the perceived performance of the 18-35. When testing focus (with the myriad of poor focus related comments in my mind) I thought I had finally experience a manifestation of this phenomena. The reality was the lens/camera combination was focusing so quickly and silently (I'm a little deaf) I'd missed the correction as compared to that experienced with previous APS-C bodies. This lens, and the DA*50-135, have become my walk-around lenses. What's perhaps the worst thing with this pair; no WR but then neither am I. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/members/1711-alwaysal/albums/3052-when-m...ture136172.jpg |

Lots of great information which creates a great conundrum. I think they're both superb cameras. I initially got the K-1 to check out the hype and subsequently caught LBA to further explore this beast. Got the K-3III to replace an aging K-5IIs, a camera I still have a fondness for.
Working through the learning process with both, I developed a subconscious perception of application; I'll opt for the K-1 if the shooting is going to be (you'd better take and use a tripod) structured/staged like portraits, weddings, etc. For walking shoots and subjects where movement may be a factor or just plain "fun" wanders, then it's the K-3III every time especially with the DA*50-135 lens.

My mother had a Victorian era family photograph where one of the deceased grandmothers had been "added" to the image (back row, head and shoulders style...early photoshop?). As a kid remember the image, or more specifically that likeness of the inserted person gave me the creeps; it was like they'd drawn the eyes in. Mother always alluded to it "being the style". More recently, there was a television movie "Dead Still" locally shown on Acorn. One of the main characters was a photographer who's primary occupation was photographing the well to do, post mortem. It was intriguing as some scenes alluded to his technique.

Thanks for your question. Yes it was. In practice, found the device itself flimsy with a flash attached and the flash cabling always proved a frustration. One of Vello's highlighted features was the ability to switch a mounted camera from portrait to landscape modes while keeping the camera lens on the same plane.
With respoect to "off camera flash" aspect was far more satisfied with a Metz CT 45 set up...all around more secure/sturdy.
This device is currently maintained in "My Stupid Purchases Shelf" along with a camera support bracket that, when clipped to a lowered car window, turned your vehicle into a roadside tripod. Something to be chalked up to the expense of learning.

A Vello "flip bracket", a most frustrating piece of equipment. It sits (to remind me) in my "Stupid Hall of Fame"...I can hear it laughing as a write!

The Pentax Bellows Unit K with the matched 100mm lens. A challenging piece of equipment; whether it's geometry of the mounting mechanism, the focus (that can change with a wisp of wind) or getting the lighting and aperture right, this lens brings it's own version of fun to the game. I often think this one device was responsible for the invention of profanity.

As a suggestion, for Godox equipment, the folks at StrobePro (StrobePro.com) have some good comparison resources on their site. I've dealt with them and very customer service focused.

Hi,
With respect to your battery search, did "Battery Specialist" (batteryspecialist.ca) come up? I've had good luck finding SLA replacements for my older Bowens Travel Packs.
