The first is looking into North Carolina from the Appalachian Trail near Carver's Gap in the Cherokee National Forest.
The second is from Craggy Pinnacle Summit in Pisgah National Forest. Peaking over the mountain may be an unconfirmed sighting of the cloud creature last seen on Argus X. |

A few from the gardens at Biltmore - I liked this lens on my K-3, but it is even better on the K-1ii. |

Thanks. I did buy the parts list and the wiring diagram was exactly what I needed.
I also contacted DiGi Service who made the video of replacing a K-3 top and he kindly supplied some photos of the operation which gives me confidence I can resolder it correctly.
Now all I need is a little free time.

I was able to get some clarification from Precision about the repair quote. Their diagnosis is that a weather seal around the top cover failed allowing water to enter the viewfinder area. They see signs of water damage to the electronics listed on the repair quote (main flex circuit and CPU, finder LCD, and photo sensor block). They are unwilling to do a lesser repair.
I did speak with Ricoh Pentax about it, but they are not willing to help in any way since the camera is out of warranty. That is disappointing but not surprising.
As much as I like this camera, I just can't justify spending $700 to repair it. So once I get it back, I will put my Silver K-3 and D-BG5 battery grip on the market for anyone who needs a silver grip or wants to try their hand at repair (or wants to spend $700 to fix it with Precision).
There is a bright side to this. I have been given approval to buy a K-1 Mark ii. As much as I will miss my silver friend, I think I will enjoy having a full frame again (I still shoot film from time to time), and it should complement my black K-3 pretty well.

I see too many of these in my garden, but I try to cut them down before they blossom.

I had the Tamron 10-24/3.5-4.5, but I was always disappointed in it over my DA15. I now have the Sigma 10-20/3.5 (which is more expensive than the f/4-5.6 you mention), and I find it much better (still not as good as the DA15).

On my K-3, I let auto ISO go up one more stop than the K-5, to 6400. But again, I will bump it up more if it means getting the shot. Today's noise reduction software can do some amazing things.

Great idea for a gallery. Not a recent photo (that's me and my grandpa in 1968) and posted previously. My dad still has this Model A. He took the photo on slide film with an Argus C3 rangefinder. ---------- Post added 08-31-16 at 06:35 AM ----------

Lots of good advice here already.
Use a tripod with a remote shutter to avoid camera shake. Also, I would highly recommend a wide prime to get a sharp photo (I really like the DA21 for this, and it is going pretty cheap these days). Definitely set ISO 100, and I use f/11 with 3-5s exposure. Bulb will also work fine, especially if the fireworks are the only source of light. Just keep the shutter open to capture whatever you like. I try to listen to the mortars and open the shutter just before they burst. Be sure to focus carefully on something in the far distance. Take lots of shots and show only the best so people will think you're really good. |
