I was also skeptical of the 28-105, but the IQ is pretty impressive and its size was perfect for this trip (I wanted something lighter than my 24-70. I highly recommend it for a utility or travel lens with the K-1. It probably wouldn't work for most birding because we normally didn't get that close to eagles, but this was at a raptor sanctuary and they were releasing this guy back into the wild after rehab.
The glaciers were impressive. They are so big, but you lose scale in the photos (and in person). That photo was taken probably 1/4 mile away, and the glacier face was estimated to be 200 feet tall. Those are harbor seals lying on the icebergs below. And the interior of the compressed ice is that blue, and it shines like a gem in the sunlight.

Thanks all for the compliments, but really, I think anyone would be a great photographer in that environment. The photos don't even do it justice.
I have done a lot of high school swimming photography, and loved to get shots on the backstroke just after the start as the swimmers come to the surface with a layer of water over their face. This reminds me of that.
It is a Humpback. In fact, I was able to get a shot of its fluke and submit it to happywhale.com, so we know it was last seen in 2019 in Hawaii. Happywhale
Yes, well spotted. This is a Steller sea lion. We were in a zodiac near an island filled with them. Not a good place to be downwind!

Thanks Steve. I think you nailed it. Lightroom does not report any lens identification (other than focal length and aperture).

I have the Sigma DG 150-500 1:5-6.3 APO HSM with OS. I recently sent it in to Sigma to have the mount updated so I could use it with my K-1ii. The camera reads this as an APS-C lens and automatically enters crop mode, but the lens is a full frame lens. I can switch to full frame mode as long as I remember to do it. Is this expected or normal?

The first is looking into North Carolina from the Appalachian Trail near Carver's Gap in the Cherokee National Forest.
The second is from Craggy Pinnacle Summit in Pisgah National Forest. Peaking over the mountain may be an unconfirmed sighting of the cloud creature last seen on Argus X. |

A few from the gardens at Biltmore - I liked this lens on my K-3, but it is even better on the K-1ii. |

Due to the great deals on this lens, I have lowered the price to $165 including shipping.
Here's another sample. It's a great range on APS-C for taking normal to telephoto shots from the stands. |

I upgraded to the PLM, and am selling my HD 55-300 on the marketplace, so take my comments with a grain of salt.
With the release of the new SDM model, the drop in prices for the HD 55-300 makes it a great value. I have used it for soccer and marching band, and find the reach and image quality more than good enough for a consumer zoom. It's also wide enough to get most shots when the action is close. The focus is slower than the new PLM, but with a little practice, it's not a big problem. The weather-sealing is great for some peace of mind. I used it when I didn't want to carry my heavy Sigma 150-500.

Another example photo - it's a great lens to take to football games (long reach, light weight).
This is just after last year's Old Oaken Bucket game (Purdue 31 - Indiana 24). The Purdue band flips their hats backwards after a Big10 victory. |

The same here. LASIK 15 years ago with great results. A little astigmatism in my right eye, but not enough to be a problem with photography. The only issue now is near focus as I get older.
I have been using the O-ME53 since the K-20D and love it. I havent tried it on the K-1ii yet since the viewfinder is already big and bright, but I do have one on my MZ-S. I also like how it moves your eye a little further away from the camera back (for those of us with a big nose).
My experience is that the O-EM53 doesnt really crop the viewfinder like a cropped photo cuts off the edge of a photo. I can still see the entire viewfinder, but I need to move my eye around a little more to see the edges. Without glasses this is easy, but if I was wearing glasses, I expect it would be harder to see the edges.

I’m willing to keep the silver and sell the black HD 40/2.8 if someone would rather have black. It is in a similar condition. I can send pictures if anyone is interested.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Silver Pentax K-3 (not fully functional - read description) Asking Price
60.00 USD Item Location
Indiana (United States) Item Description
This is a Premium Silver Edition of the of K-3, approximately 19000 shutter activations. During a rainy soccer shoot, water or condensation caused damage to the light metering. I sent in to Precision for a repair estimate which came back at $700 to replace the main flex circuit and CPU, finder LCD, and photo sensor block. I chose not to pay that much to repair it, but I did some work on it myself to no avail. You can read the story here. Need photos of K-3 with top cover removed - PentaxForums.com
The camera works in manual mode or live view, but photos taken in other modes are overexposed since the meter thinks the scene is dark.
The camera could be used for parts (cosmetically it is in good condition with only minor scratches), sent in for repairs, or used by someone who likes to use live mode or the sunny 16 rule. I decided to let it go since I got a K-1ii, and still have a fully functional K-3 in black.
I am selling the silver D-BG5 grip under a separate listing, but would take $140 for both. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

This is the last screw-drive version with the HD coatings, quick shift focus, and weather resistant features. I have always been impressed by the sharpness in this consumer zoom.

With all the excellent help (thank you!), I was able to resolder the six loose wires properly. Unfortunately, after reassembly the camera still has no signal from the light meter, but all else is working.
My theory is that the wires came loose as I opened the top cover due to poor soldering at the factory combined with my clumsy fingers. I was pretty careful, but that's the only thing that makes sense.
I'm guessing that moisture somehow shorted out the light meter (which I believe is on part J500 "4WDKJ503 photo sensor block assembly"). It was a gradual process as the photos that day become more overexposed over time, and by the next day the light meter showed nothing. I don't know if that means the short can be reversed. If I could figure out how it shorted, it is possible I could correct it. According to the schematics, there is a single connector from J500 to the main circuit board T100, which I may try unplugging, cleaning, and reconnecting if I can get to it easily.
I notice that the LCD display in the viewfinder looks very dim. I suspect that it is designed to adjust brightness based on the reading from the light meter, so I don't think there is anything wrong with that module (O100 "Finder LCD block"). Since everything else on the camera is working, I hope the main circuit board is ok too.
