Sigma 30mm F1.4 Opinions

I don't think comparing the 30mm sig and the 31mm ltd is ... right. While the focal lenghts are basically the same, the 30mm edges (on my copy at the very least) was horrible. I found that the 30mm was unusable as a walkaround, because occasionally I like to tak landscapes and at every Fstop, the corners on the sigma suck.. just mushy horribleness. Now for Low light center pictures it's great, probably better than the 31mm. For a walkabout, I'd say the 31mm was more usable and versatile, because of superior edges. NOTE: I don't have the 31mm, but if the edges aren't better than the sigmas, I'll eat my hat. my 21mm and 43mm edges are Soooo much better than the sigma.

place to get Pentax Photo laboratory 3 online?

.. kept crashing on me too. It can't open the pentax raw format, but I switched to the adobe format and it works fine... though a bit slow and I have a decent computer. Still, I prefer it to pentax photo lab... I think mostly because in photolab everything looks really low rez and crappy and I can't tell what needs to be adjusted. Makes me feel like all my pics suck, when really they just aren't that great:D Additionally, I think that raw therapee is very intuitive, I haven't read the manual yet though I'll be reading it soon.

Even if $ is no real issue, it's not easy to replicate a Pentax system.

Yikes where to begin jumping into this bowl of puddin....
well here goes, have you used the d700, the thing is huge, so if you're looking for compact, you're not looking at full 35mm (which might not be a magic photo bullet, but damn my 5D took nice pics). next..uhh... oh yeah, if I didn't care about size and had lots of money, I'd pick canon... 24mm t/s, 35mm 1.4 85mm 1.2, 135L, .... Course I don't shoot long lenses, but if I did, I'd agree with... whoever said it... check out oly... they got them thur crazy f 2.0 zooms! and the 90-250 2.8... it's only $5000 so buy 2:D.
I forgot everything else I was gonna say, but pentax has got (or it should) the market on compact with the k7 and limiteds.
and for the amazon bh thingy, you gotta shop around, sometime or another amazon will have the best price for something, right?
are rigtht yall, have fun and good night.

well, if i would have gotten here sooner I'd have told you to go with the k20d if you didn't care about size and weight. However, I have a KM also, so its not as if I don't think it's a good camera. congrats. I'm sure you'll have a blast.
I use the energizer rechargables with that mobile charger on amazon(?)... I think that's what it's called, anyway great battery life.

stop insulting my camera:mad:! its not for beginners.. its for winners!
anywho, all i have is a km and limiteds... and it's beautiful man.
anywho, as to know which lenses to keep, just buy ltds and you won't get any overlap!
also, you'll know which ones you should keep, they'll be the ones you like the most and use the most...
have fun.

geez, just read my post. I'll blame it on the educational system, I sound like I'm 8 years old=)

my copy of the sig 30mm was really bad in the edges.... very mushy, but very nice in the center. Perhaps it is just sample variation, but my copy was unusable in the edges in real world shots... just mushy and sucky.:( also back focused.
good luck.

K2000 Impressions

yes, the lack of AF points is kinda annoying... but the thing that struck me is the K2000 just seems too small... I usually shoot with my left eye and with the k2000 I can't because then I poke my own eye out trying to turn the wheel! though really, I bought the thing because it was small... i'd recommend the k200d to anyone looking, for a more usable size more AF points that show (jsut in case) and weather sealing.
pictures look fine though... although personally, I wouldn't use ISO3200, it's a bit too messy for me.
oh, just thought of this, the buttons are super small and take gettting used to, not a good camera for changing settings quickly (I'm not saying it can't be done, but the lack of external controls and the fact that they are super small complicate things).

love my pentax limiteds, think the km is small.

Howdy there. I just switched, so I don't have extensive expiernce with my pentax limiteds yet, but initially, I'd have to say the IQ is about equal and the reduced bulk from the lenses is a welcome relief. I had the 350d a 50 1.4(most used) a 24L and I had used and gotten rid of the 24 2.8 and the 35 f2... my 24 2.8 didn't resolve well at long distances for some reason, but up close it was super sharp.... still from just a few test shots with the 21mm ltd, i'd say that the 21 has better contrast and I like the overall look more. the 35 f2, I'm not sure why, but I never really liked it.
oops, I don't want to go back and edit, so I have the 21mm and the 43mm limiteds. I like the 43mm focal length a lot... though I do miss the 1.4.
please note that the 24L was... is my favorite lens... but I never took it anywhere random because of its size and cost... I feel more comfortable with the limiteds...
I'm going to san diego this weekend, so I'll try and get back to you on how the limiteds do=)

uh, sorry this post is so everywhere, but I'm not going to proof and rewrite it like this is a composition class.

as for the pancakes being to small to use, if you have the hoods on, you can easilly put a couple of fingers on those.... I have a km which i think it TOO small, but holding is find (pushing the buttons is frustrating) but if you get a k7, .roughly the same size as the k100d I had for a spell, there should be no problem with ergonomics.

I want
14mm 2.8
24mm* f2
50mm 1.4
85mm*
for a speed kit and

21mm
43mm
70mm
for a travel small kit.

NaCL, I don't think that pentax's backward compatability is all that much of an advantage over canon, considering that most mounts can be adapted to the eos mount quite effectively.

good luck photong.

I think I have to turn the contrast down on my camera... the pink seems unnaturally brigtht...very weird doing close ups with this lens... also apologies, not sure if you can tell on the web pic, but I have a back focus issue, so the leaves behind the flowers are in focus.... but they're really sharp:lol:

Yes, I suppose sigma does make something that sounds close, but the 20 and 24 are really kinda big and shouldn't a crop cam lens be a bit smaller than that... also the 30 1.4 (the one I had) had terrible edges... very mushy.
also, isn't one of the main reasons to use pentax the lenses?
if I wanted to use sigma lenses, I could use almost any other brand.... is it too much to ask for pentax optics and craftsmanship?

So how does the sigma 24 1.8 stack up against pentax's build and optical quality?

I'd also like a fast wide... I think a new 24 F2, or 1.4 is wide and fast enough though. I want it for ... everything... low light, land scape, and everything else. it'd probably have to be about the size of the DA*55, but I can accept that.
btw the canon 24mm 1.4 is my fav lens, very fun and versatile.
