Not sure if this is the correct place of the forum to post this at, sorry if it isn't!
I was wondering, is it possible to set up live view on a laptop with the K-7? Not necessarily shooting tethered, but simply a live view on the laptop screen (that I would hook up to a large monitor, most likely). This is for a workshop I will be doing on Saturday, figured it'd be a cool thing to do.
I know that if you hook up the camera to a TV for example, you can see the live view on the screen. How would you go about doing this with a computer?
My laptop has a HDMI port. Would that be the only way? (I'd have to buy a mini HDM cable to hook it up to the camera).

Lowell,
Thanks I will look into a driver upgrade. I just though it was odd because I've been using this memory card for a long time (and always reading it through the laptop reader), and this is the first time something like this happened.

YES. I used a USB card reader... and it WORKED!
I had been using the built-in memory card reader inside my laptop... I never thought it could corrupt some files and not others...
I'm so relieved right now I want to cry.
THANKS everyone. In less than 3 hours from posting this thread everyone came forward and I was able to find a solution. I love the internet and the awesome Pentaxians using it ;_: <3 Thanks again!!

So it seems the DNG converter does not even let me select the files to convert them to DNG :(

ok so the Pentax software does not open the files. They show as broken, and when I try to open them it freezes the software.
I'm just so confused because I can still see the files when looking at them in camera... it's like they still exist but I can't touch them :(

So today I took about 370 photos on a photoshoot.
I arrived home, and immediately started importing from my memory card into Lightroom, as usual.
As the import reached its end, the last 57 files suddenly made a window pop up and say 'lightroom files unsupported or damaged'.
These are all PEF taken with my K-7.
Why would it import the majority of the photos, but not the last 57?
These are very important files and I'm kinda freaking out. :(
(When putting the memory card back into the camera, I am able to see every single one of these files, zoom into them, read their info, etc... they seem to be fine!)
I appreciate any advice.
I am using Lightroom 2.4 and it shows to be up to date. I have tried manually importing them to the computer and then opening them on LR, but no change.
Also, kill me, but my copy of Photoshop CS3 is not legit and does not have RAW support (I use Lightroom 99% of the time). So they won't open there either.:( edit: Something else I tried: I converted the RAW files to JPG *in camera*. Then, when accessing the memory card in the computer, the folders with the new JPGs were all illegible characters and I was not able to open them.. :( edit: DNG Converter: So it seems the DNG converter does not even let me select the files to convert them to DNG :( FINAL EDIT
I used a USB card reader and it WORKED!

It might be good to keep this thread in case anyone else has the same issue.

Thanks to everyone trying to help me, I really appreciate it. (and thanks maxwell1295 for the compliment!)
But.... I must be incredibly weak then because I cannot get these things through. :(
Look, in these photos I am forcing the thing in... and it's just too thick.
I have tried paper clips, cards, EVERYTHING. (I don't have a fishing line but I have stried string and thread.)
At this point I am almost wanting to just buy another connector that will be a guaranteed fit, something flatter. What would be a guaranteed fit through those damn thin slits?
(sorry I realize how annoying this entire thread is, but I don't know who else to ask!

Now that I am looking at it, the webbing pro look looks exactly like what I have. Are you sure it would fit?
My camera's retaining slugs are square.

Yeah. I tried paper clips, needles with a thread, tiny hooks, and then I got frustrated and threw it at my cat. =\
Thanks kenyee, I will look into getting that instead!

I think this is a great thread!
Having started seriously photographing only about 4 or 5 years ago, I would stay that I did grow. It's inevitable. You learn how to improve your lighting, you learn what lens is better for what purpose, you become more aware of what equipment you should invest in, you learn new ways to edit... and as a result, you grow.
This made me go into my archives and find one of the first portraits I took with my first dSLR (*ist Ds2).
I was using a boring set up of two hot lights facing the subject, plain white background, no reflector, and kit lens...
This is one of my latest portraits. Strobes, 24-70mm, better photo set up, reflector, more depth and creativity. Not a perfect image (I'm a bad critic of myself), but I can see subtle improvements from when i first started! |

Hey guys!
I recently bought a Op/Tech Pro Loop Strap for my Pentax K10D. Upon arrival, I tried to attach it to the camera but... it's too thick! I could not get the strap through the small slit.
Maybe I am missing something, but shouldn't there be some sort of disclaimer when purchasing the strap, that it may not fit all dSLRs? Is there some sort of attachment that will make it fit my camera? :(

I think your photography is very beautiful!
I have one advice regarding the website: Get rid of the Comic Sans font! It's terrible! Stick to something a little more basic and classic like Helvetica or even plain Arial. It looks more professional. Of course, that's just my opinion! ^^
