I would not say that is the 2nd worst... but IMO the K1ii was just a "meehh" camera, nothing special and a release that as i see it hurt the image of Pentax and pushed some people away from the brand..

I wanted to provide an update on using the K1 and the Pentax SMC Pentax-D FA Macro 50mm f2.8 lens. I've now show several hundred works of art (with several hundred more in the collection to go), and I can say hands down this is the best equipment for the money you can buy for this type of photography. With PixelShift, the images of art details are amazingly sharp (even 15 ft away) with no discernable distortion. Yes, scanning the image gives a higher resolution, but it isn't affordable for most artists. This is hands down the equipment you want to buy for shooting art.

Green button metering is a hassle with Pentax body when using fully mechanic lens without aperture coupling. It is not accurate when light starts to drop and liveview histogram does not work when using manual exposure mode.
Sony's metering works with all kind of lenses, be it native FE or dumb lens without any contacts.
However, adapter is an adapter. One may get a decentered one or one with incorrect register distance and lose infinity focus. I would say that whatever brand one uses, one should get brand lenses for the sake of mental health.

That's a point well made, Steve. In fact, the K-1II files can be adjusted in terms of edge enhancement / local contrast to bring back 95% of the detail that the K-1 files show, but in doing so there are additional artefacts that become noticeable at 100% reproduction. I don't believe that's a problem, but it is visible.
In the tests I've done, and comments I've posted in this thread, my intent is not to put down the excellent results of which the K-1II is capable, but merely to make honest, subjective, but - I'd like to think - qualified observations. To be clear, if I were to be gifted a K-1II tomorrow, I'd be the happiest chap in the forums  But from the files I've worked with, the noise reduction benefits of the K-1II's accelerator have a real, albeit relatively minor, cost...

Maybe we should make cunning plan for secret society :)
Final decision was purely based on one thing: If I would take something else, I would have regret it very soon, and as old saying here in finland says: Köyhän ei kannata ostaa halpaa (means something like "poor can't afford cheap", meaning it's after all cheaper to buy good quality once than cheap one twice.)

I converted from a Sony a7R2 including 2 Loxia lenses. It's now for sale; I'm VERY happy with my K-1.

Just some thoughts...
It's the beginning of new direction of Ricoh. New video directed lenses without screw-drive with fast and noiseless motors.
It's more progressive way than KAF3. Like or not like, but it's right direction with K-mount.
New lens is 8.3 times faster at wide-angle and 1.7 times faster at telephoto end than old 55-300.
Don't forget - Ricoh will produce 6 new FF lenses and 4 new APS-C in 2016-2017.
If new FF primes will be made for video mode, silent, speedy and fast, with WR or AW, of course, it will be real BIG PROGRESS for Ricoh-Pentax.

I shot weddings last weekend within K-1 and K-5, didn't actually use K-5 that much (K-1 900 photos and with K-5 only 200) and I'm very impressed of K-1, it's beyond words! Some photos, taken with DA*55 and DA* 60-250/4. Usually I've been editing wedding photos way too long - somehow didn't need do to it this time, the files from K-1 are very good already without PP. |

Cheers, the 10D is digital and was great at the time, however most of my work has been on video for the last few years but I now want to get back into stills.
I was marched to the Pentax stand at a recent show I was working at and told to look at the K1. After that Canon and Nikon didn't stand a chance..

Initial impressions: it's very responsive, feels a lot snappier than my K-3. The viewfinder is really big, and really bright. The camera shows up the weaknesses in my K18 sadly, however the FA limiteds are finally singing to their full potential. I love this camera.

Was a D 800 E shooter till end of January (all my gear stolen) and was thinking on the D 810 or Sony 7 R II,and the Sony was winning because the SR !On the D 800 E if you don´t put it on tripod and mirror up have a blur motion free picture was a lottery and......The K-1 appear!!!! I´ve preordered mine a month ago (waiting the 25 th.) The quality of the sensor is not a problem i ´m sure is almost as good than the D one,but all the others features make that camera near perfect (hope no hiden bugs) for the half of the price!i have yet the 100 WR,the 50 2,8,an samyang 14 mm all news and an Autorevuenon 50 mm F 1,4 ,Vivitar 28 mm 2,8 close focus(in box) and an 135 mm f 2,8 used for start! Still waiting the Body !But i ´m confident that i´ll forgot quickly the D 800 E and this limited use.

If you use the correct lenses for the cameras, there isn't a issue at all.

Pre-production K-1 is on display at Helsinki Kuva&Kamera 2016 fair this weekend. I took the opportunity to play with the camera for about 30 min yesterday.
For a person with K-7, K-5, K-01 and K-3 history the camera felt familiar and easy to use right away. All the buttons and adjustments are on right places and easy to access and customize. The feature set is overwhelming. Naturally the VF is very good after APS-C. As mentioned many times the body is a bit larger than K-3, but for me it was still surprisingly manageable. Same goes with the battery grip attached. The build quality is what you would expect from top model Pentax. The mechanism for the back-screen felt much more durable than one would think based on the pictures. No concerns for me there. All the small lights placed around the body were also a good addition to low light work.
I was not allowed to save any pictures, but was able to try the DFA 24-70 and DFA 150-450 as well as my own FA 31, 44, and 77 limiteds with the body. Also tried the DFA 24-70 and 150-450 with my K-3. The AF works a bit faster and a bit more accurate than on my K-3 with all of these lenses (based on the examination of the pictures from the back screen). Very positive feeling from this. The attached pictures with the 31 ltd are taken with the 24-70.
I also tried the pixel shift hand held and based on the examination of the pictures from the back screen it worked pretty well with the motion correction. Pixel peeping would of course tell the truth.
All in all very positive feeling, even better than I hoped for. I placed my pre-order to local dealer on 27.2.2015, so it would had been a shame to cancel it at this point
