If there's nothing sharp in the photo then it isn't a focus problem, its probably motion blur. Did you try a monopod? I thought the rule for motion blur was that the shutter speed needs to be twice the focal length or something like that.
I do most of my shooting on sunny days.

I use my K-01 for kids soccer all the time. Took me a little while to get the hang of it but it can work. A couple of tips -
- pre-focus by anticipating where the action will be
- shoot 3-4 shot bursts
- get a monopod, can be had for less than $20
- position yourself so you get shots where the players eyes are visible
- pay attention to lighting shoot with the sun behind you so the action isn't in the shadows
- its digital, you'll throw away a lot of shots
I shoot with an old FA80-320 which is decent up to about 300mm.

Loved the video, what are the lightening flashes at 2:10? Looks like somebody with a van de graaf generator was zapping the other tents.
My guess is that's just campers walking around the campsite with their flashlights on.

Perhaps we should consider some preventative maintenance for those of us who haven't experienced this yet. What's been used to date to regluecthe knobs? What worked or didn't work?

Thanks for the tips barondla. Sounds like another opportunity to explore photography. Where's a good place to get the scope? IIRC, there are a couple of good threads here discussing how to use it.

. . . an OEM K-Q adapter and an OEM tripod foot off ebay. The adapter was $160 and the foot was $48, both including shipping. Hopefully, both transactions will go smoothly - should have everything by early Feb. The foot is shipping from Japan, the adapter from Texas.
Any tips for using these? I look forward to getting even more use out of my great Pentax lenses (M200, M135, FA80-320, FA100macro).
Anyone try a reversing ring on the adapter for some outrageous macro shots?

The movie Shutter with Joshua Jackson and Rachael Taylorhas a guy shooting a hot model in a cowboy hat with a Pentax camera. The scene is about 2/3 into the movie. It must be a paid spot because the brand is clearly visible in multiple scenes.
. . . and this was noted in post #95 in this thread.

The AF focus throw seems shorter on my 80-320mm. Less hunting, no more going the wrong way to the end of the lens travel then back.

Norton also did this with my K-01 update and I solved it the same way - use RESTORE.

This has to be a first - someone complaining about too much politeness on an internet forum.
Mostly, it's a way to add emphasis that one likes something someone said or wrote about. Its not irony (what a buzz kill) usually.

Nice shots.
I find even my K-01 with the 80-320mm does OK with sports if I pre-focus and shoot 3-4 frame bursts. Also, sports shots are much more interesting if the players eyes are visible. Shots of player's backs are usually poor unless some incredible action is there.

My 06 is definitely not dodgy. It does make a little AF noise when focusing but I can only hear it when my ear is right next to the lens. I'll check the focus when the sun comes up.
My 02 and 01 also buzz slightly during focusing and I can only hear it when my ear is right next to the lenses.

I use a monopod for sports, works great. It's much easier to run up and down a soccer field holding a monopod than a tripod (even folded). A decent monopod can be had for under $20.
I use a tripod for all other times I need to put the camera on something to hold it still, mostly macro and stills.

IMHO the to most overlooked aspects of weddings by amateur photogs are lighting and backgrounds. Practice with your flash/bracket/diffuser until you are confident in the results you'll get with various settings. Pentax's flash system can be finicky. The second is making sure the backgrounds in candid shots aren't cluttered and distracting. There will be lots of opportunities to get shots at the wedding. Getting the ones which isolate the subject can be tricky.
At least, for the one or two weddings I've shot, those were my big mistakes. Also, scope the church and the reception area the day before at the same time of day to see how the sun and shadows fall.
Don't be afraid to "go for it" but if you think the stakes are high, see if there's a way for the couple to have other ways to get photos of their wedding - have a backup of some sort.
