Thanks Jason, I'm really starting to look hard at the RX100 now, although the fact it's already been replaced with the RX100 II makes me inclined to look at the newer model, but then my budget starts to go up quite a bit (doesn't it always!!)

Panasonic LX7 - Successor?

Thanks for the replies.
Ideally I want something with a fixed lens of high quality which is nice and wide and fast and I can slip it into my Jacket pocket. The Sony certainly does get good reviews and at the moment it is proving to be a very tempting choice although in the UK the cheapest I've seen it is £300, which is about £100 more than the LX7 is currently selling for, and it's lens is neither as wide or as fast as the LX7. The Fuji is too expensive.
Would really like to see what Panasonic do with the LX9 but not sure I can wait till Summer. Decisions, decisions......

I'm after a "second" camera to go along with my K3 for when I don't need to take the big guns. I've been using an LX3 for years and love it but time for an upgrade I think.
I'm naturally drawn to the LX7 but that is nearing 2 years old so I'm hesitant to purchase if an LX9(?) is round the corner.
Anyone heard anything?

Thanks,
Mark

I've had the K5 for a couple of weeks and due to everything being crazy hectic at the moment I've barely had the time to use it.
However, I had to take my daughter to a kids party on Sunday and took the chance to pop outside quickly for about 30 mins to grab a few shots even though it was a pretty overcast day.

One thing that I can say about it so far is that the Dynamic Range is as good as they say.....so far I'm a happy chap :)

Weekly challenge #162 "Where Angels Fear to Tread....." - Winners!

Thanks to everyone for your entries. It would have been nice to have had a few more, the Weekly challenge doesn't seem to attract anywhere near the amount of entries it used to....anyway, onto the results.

Great stuff from everyone and some nice interpretations of the theme:

Arjay Bee - I definitely wouldn't want to tread on that! Nice use of colour and texture, without the eye it could almost be a piece of old wood.

woof - Another good use of texture and colour, nice use of HDR as well...the stained windows give it a somewhat eerie feel.

Tamia - Great atmosphere in this picture, quite creepy....and is that a "Ghost" I can see in the lower left corner?

MRRiley - Nice use of negative space....that shape certainly looks like someone (or something) lurking in the caves...I think I would scared myself silly if I'd have come across that in such a remote and isolated place.

NaClH2O - Another good atmospheric shot...the Fog really helps give this a Ghostly aura and I wouldn't like to think what could be lurking in that tower...

jheu02 - Nice mono shot....looks like we are in Texas Chainsaw Massacre country with that one...I certainly wouldn't be knocking on the door and asking for directions!!

kardinal - I am familiar with Godspeed You Black Emperor and they can certainly create a very unsettling sound...Nice gig shot...love the contrast and colours...

jmschrei - The old dead tree hanging over the path certainly adds to the creepiness...pathways dissapearing into dense forest always have an air of trepidation about them...

noelcmn - Interesting take on the theme and nice capture of the little fella at work...

ramseybuckeye - Abandoned Industrial buildings with weird graffitti...very creepy indeed...classic serial killer territory (or so the movies would have us believe) I still wouldn't want to be wandering around there after dark on my own!

Once again thanks to everyone who entered....

Results...

3rd Place: MRRiley

2nd Place: Tamia

Winner and chooser of the next theme: jheu02

No need to apologise Susan, I know exactly what you mean. There was a time when the weekly challenge was the main thing in this section but over time it's been drowned out by the myriad other threads. I've noticed that less people submit pictures as well, probably as it's easily missed as you, and others, have said.

:-)

Hi,
It shouldn't be any harder to find than any other of the weekly challenges. It follows the standard naming convention, etc.
Why are people finding it hard to find? Have I messed up somehow?
Thanks

Scanning "Magic Lantern" Glass slides...

Hi,

I've recently come in to possession of a couple of hundred Magic Lantern slides (like these: http://images.denhams.com.s3.amazonaws.com/507/507lot220.jpg).
I want to make some good quality scans of these but a normal scanner (I have a Canon CanoScan LiDE 210) will not work. The resulting scans show a shadow as the image is sandwiched between two sheets of glass.
Is my best bet to go down the light box, DSLR route?
If so can anybody recommend a good lightbox (I don't really want to make one if it can be helped).

Thanks,
Mark

Well mine is being shipped today from Park Cameras in the UK, should be delivered on Monday...which is absolutely no good to me whatsoever as I will not be there and Park refused to send it to my work address....sigh....
Guess I'll have to make the 130 mile round trip to the Couriers Depot during the evening to pick it up....

I was also told that only 50 were being released to the UK market, so if you're in the UK and want one then I wouldn't hang around...
