First pictures of the Sony ILCE-QX1 E-mount camera!

For adapted lenses alone this will be a very intriguing camera, er, mount? Either way the MSRP is pretty killer, at $300 I'll give it a go.

Check the link, it does have a tripod mount.

My thought is that for adapting lenses it is quite intriguing. Thinking of fixed tripod macro work where you have a full size tablet view and can move about the space to get the angle and focus just right without ever having to actually be behind the camera. Actually, any tripod work would be quite liberating.

Using monopod with "pancakes" at 1/800 and up?

I think the only scenario it would be appropriate would be for motorsports up-close (trackside) panning - not sure if that shutter speed would be too fast anyway, but that would be the only place I could see using those lenses with a monopod.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Pentax K-01 (yellow), 40mm XS, A 50mm 1.4, Q, 5-15mm Zoom, Kenko Auto Extension Tubes

Asking Price
230.00 for K-01, see descriptions

Item Location
Twin Cities, MN (United States)

Item Description
I have decided to sell my remaining Pentax gear as most of it is no longer being used on a regular basis, and everything deserves a good home! Please read all of the descriptions, and if you have any questions please ask. I will add photos as soon as possible, but everything is available on a first come first serve basis. I have plenty of feedback here (all positive!) as well as at mu-43.com and on ebay with the same username.

Since I am selling several items and will be away this upcoming weekend, I will plan to ship the items that have sold on Monday 8/4 - everything after that will be shipped within 1-2 days. Thanks for looking!

Pentax 40mm f2.8 XS lens - AS IS - $50 OBO

This lens is cosmetically in great shape, however it was dropped last year (the price I paid for such a small lens) and appears to be decentered or simply out of alignment because of the fall. The lens sharpens up at F5.6, however images appear softer at wider apertures. The lens is in otherwise good shape, AF and aperture still fully functioning. I would prefer to sell this with the K-01 body and have discounted it if both are purchased (only $30 if bundled with the K-01 below).

Pentax K-01 Yellow Body Only - $215.00 (bundled with 40mm XS, $250.00)

This camera is in great condition, I don't have an exact shutter count however it will be under 500, I have only really used it on a handful of occasions. No issues with the camera whatsoever, and no signs of wear. All original accessories are included, along with an extra battery and matching yellow/black leather strap.

Pentax Q and 5-15mm zoom - $135 OBO

I am the original owner of this camera and lens. Everything is in mint condition with all original accessories and box included. Also included is a shoe mounted small thumb grip for easier camera holding.

Pentax SMC-A 50mm F1.4 - $80 -SOLD

This lens is in excellent shape cosmetically, with no major wear on the body of the lens. The aperture is snappy with no sign of oil on the blades. There is a very light scuff on the front element of the lens that will not affect image quality, and the glass is otherwise excellent with no sign of haze or fungus internally.

Kenko K Mount Auto Extension Tubes full set (12mm, 20mm, 36mm) - $95 -SOLD

I purchased these awhile back locally, and found that I don't have much of a need to go beyond 1:1 macro photos. These will get you extremely close up with a true macro lens attached. These are full auto tubes that communicate aperture between the camera and lens (there is however no autofocus mechanism!). All 3 tubes properly communicate aperture information between camera and lens together and independently. The tubes are in excellent condition with minimal signs of wear.

Help! I can't unscrew my filter!

Whenever this happens to me, if I pinch only one side of the filter and twist it surprisingly usually works to get the filter off. They are usually not on that tight, it is just the added pressure being applied that causes the difficulty in removing the filter.

Pentax ist d - delays in snapping picture

Yeah alkalines will get you nowhere - you need to use lithium (either rechargeable or non-rechargeables) - a set of Eneloops are relatively cheap and will work great. As to the delay in focus, I'm guessing Jim is on the right track there - I believe there is also a menu option to allow triggering with/without focus - could be when the camera ran out of juice it reset itself to defaults, so you might want to check there as well.

No doubt, thanks for an excellent example! I use the Nikon version with my tamron 300mm 2.8 AF lens and you pretty much have to be at the pixel level to tell the difference when adding the TC. Having the TC in the field being able to save all the pixels and less cropping later is of course the added bonus.

Item for Sale
Tamron 1.4x Teleconverter PZ-AF MC4 for Pentax K mount (LN)

Asking Price
$220 USD

Item Location
Twin Cities (United States)

Item Description
I have for sale a Tamron PZ-AF 1.4x MC4 teleconverter in Pentax mount. The $220 asking price includes USPS priority shipping insured with tracking and paypal fees included.

My Pentax kit has slowly been shrinking and I no longer have a need for this teleconverter. It is in mint condition. Cosmetically there are no major marks or blemishes; the mount itself shows almost no wear. The glass has no marks. Front and rear caps are included.

Please do your research before purchasing this teleconverter! From past experience, they will work with SDM lenses in good lighting conditions, but will tend to hunt for focus indoors or darker outdoors scenes. With that said, these are just about the best teleconverters you'll find optically that are available in K mount.

If you have any other questions please ask! If you would like photos I can take some (likely on the weekend), however I have plenty of feedback here, at Mu-43.com, and also ebay under the same username as both buyer and seller.

Additional note: this will likely sell quickly; I do sell first come first served - if you simply want to buy it and don't have any other questions please include the email address at which you'd like to receive a paypal invoice, and I will send it to you asap!

Which backpack to choose?

I have a larger case logic sling (dcb-308) which I like - they are well made, my only complaint is that when it is completely full the strap is a little on the thin/cutting end of the comfort scale, but that is absolutely stuffed (d600, 70-300, 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, tokina 16-28 2.8, 10 inch tablet and a bunch of other things in the top pack, probably pushing 20lbs) - but that is on one strap too.

Running two systems?

Well, there isn't much point in doubling up on the basic kit/must have lenses (which you've got covered), so the real question is what kind of photography are you enjoying, and what lenses will enhance that down the road? Pentax is great for nature photography, but not specifically wildlife due to limited available long telephoto options (and what is available in K mount is often expensive due to rarity, and also likely used and not available new). That is just one example though, and there are of course areas where Pentax excels too. So, what do you enjoy shooting?!

There should also be a menu setting to release without focus for the shutter in the custom settings. And agree with Adam regarding the firmware update, it is a must - standard SD cards are few and far between these days.

Tripod recommendations needed for 65" eye level
Posted By pxpaulx
Replies: 31

keep in mind that you do not want to extend the center column - it introduces too much vibration and all but negates the purpose of having the tripod in the first place. My recommendation is a feisol tripd, I have the 3471 which is very heavy duty, less than 5lbs and eye level fully extended (I'm the same height as you are). You'd need to get a ballhead as well. The feisol tripods are excellent quality (i previously owned a gitzo basalt tripod and imho the feisol is just as nice), but you're looking at $250-300 for just the tripod. If you end up going with manfrotto, make sure to get one of their newer heads that uses arca compatible plates - you don't want to be locked into their proprietary camera plate system.

Why do mm count more at the wide end?
Posted By pxpaulx
Replies: 21

it is significant because of the visual area of coverage. Think of it this way, a 50 inch television has an area just over 1000 square inches, while a 60 inch television (a linear increase of only 20%) has over 1500 square inches of area (almost a 50% increase). The wider you get, adding that small amount of linear coverage nets an exponential amount more visual area (I'm sure there is probably an equation for it, though I don't know what it would be).
