I've been trying out PhotoDirector for the last couple of days and am in the process of filling out the feedback forum. I've only tried Lightroom 2 before so that's what I compared it to. My impression is it's not going to knock Lightroom off of any throne at any point but it does do a good job for consumer level software. It's not quite as advanced in regards to LR's adjustment options but it has most of them there (if worded differently). Photo management and organization is about the same as LR. The slideshow options are pretty basic—the nicest feature being able to export directly to a video. PD does lack some basic features like creating a gallery for use in a webpage or in printed media; but it does offer an easy way to share photos and videos with friends and family via Facebook/Flickr/Youtube with the click of a button.

It's not freeware but Cyberlink is offering a free version of their new PhotoDirector app on release if you test out the beta and return feedback before June 20th. PhotoDirector 2011 Beta Version - Professional Quality Photo Editing Software
Trying it out now and it does import Pentax RAWs from my K100D and Adobe DNG files just fine. I have yet to test out more than that at the moment though.

There was a similar thread not that long ago dealing with using an older Vivitar 283 flash on a DSLR. The same answers would apply to your situation as well.

Hmm.. perhaps it might be a bit clearer if we had a screenshot of the explorer window to see.

It sounds like you're talking about the file grouping being set to group by Type in Windows Explorer. eg: it'll have headings like PEF File (xx) and JPG File (xx). You can set it to group by (None) and it will no longer group them separately.

Kevin Björke's Strobe Trigger Voltages page is a very useful site when looking into using older flashes on DSLRs. If you note the listed trigger voltages for the 283, the range seems to be pretty wide on the voltages.
There's also a link on how to measure the voltage of your flash if you have access to a multimeter.
I have an older model 283 and I measured it's trigger voltage as 225V which is clearly not safe to use on my K100D. At the moment, it's packed away in the closet with the rest of the flash stuff I got from an ebay auction until I get more experience using flashes off camera; using a couple of 285HVs in the meantime.

I like using Windows Live Photos for uploading backup pictures since I can upload at full resolution and they give you a lot of space (25 Gb). The only problem I have with Live Photos is that it seems to be a big hassle to share links with other people. For sharing, I'll use either Flickr or Picasa.

It looks like the deal's done now; it links to a Product Not Found page. I checked again right before I went to sleep and the price had jumped up to $28.99 as demand went up. They went pretty darn fast.

I saw this deal on Beach Camera earlier, a 16GB SDHC card for $22.99 with free shipping and no tax unless you're in New Jersey. Lexar 16 GB Platinum II 60x SD Card
Picked up a couple since I always seem to forget to put my memory card back in the camera and my only spares are 1GB or smaller.
Adorama had the same card for a lower price at $19.90 for a while; but it was backordered and has since then gone up in price.

I'd changed the skin in my user cp to the mobile skin so I could browse PentaxForums on my PSP at school. Unfortunately, I can't get out of the mobile skin since I'm at home on the PC now; the User CP doesn't seem to show the option. |

I bought one of those from Meritline.com when they still had them for sale, was regularly $4.99 USD ($2.99 on sale when I bought it). That site is pretty much the same deal as many other sites like dealextreme, focalprice, etc; just sells knockoff stuff from China for cheap. I'd say 4.99 is cheap; but $30 AUD/$28USD isn't too cheap for a knockoff of the Gary Fong Puffer.
Anyhow, since meritline can't get them any more; might be a good idea to check other similar sites that may have it if you really want one of those.
Not as versatile as sticking in gel filters, but I've tried using old plastic medicine bottles from the pharmacy. They usually come in a green or orange plastic.

I found a layout that works for me and it was only a slight modification of my previous one so it didn't take very long to figure it out at all.
First off, I have my Tamron 70-300mm on the left and my 50mm f/2 stored on the right. Both of the lenses are stored vertically with some extra foam on the bottom. A Vivitar 285HV stored horizontally on the bottom center. One of the long flaps is stuck to the bottom underneath the flash for padding.
Close the flap over the 50mm and I can store my kit 18-55mm lens or my Cokin holder and filters.
Then I close the flap over the flash; I used a borrowed divider from a bag I store extra junk inside the closet to make the flap a bit larger.
And finally, I flip the flap on the left down between the lens cover for a bit of extra padding; set the camera in the center and I'm ready to go.
To recap, I have the following items stored in the main compartment:
K100D with either 18-55mm kit lens or Tamron 28-80mm attached
Tamron 70-300 f/4.0-5.6 Di LD 1:2 Macro
Sears 50mm f/2
Vivitar 285HV
Either the kit/Tamron 28-80, whichever's not attached; or Cokin holder + some filters
Smaller compartment underneath the secondary flap has the manuals for the K100D and 285HV flash, plus a microfiber towel.
As for the flap, I have a horde of rechargeable AA batteries, blower, a Tiffen wallet with some screw-on filters and spare memory card.

I just added a flash to my collection of stuff to carry (a used Vivitar 285HV I got off of eBay) and now that means another piece of gear to carry. As I had it before, it was hard to put the camera back in without taking the bag off my shoulder; it looks to be time to play with the puzzle pieces again.

Bag came in the mail yesterday and I must say I really like it. It has enough room to carry my gear and doesn't scream out "STEAL ME!" to anyone passing by. I'm a fairly big guy and it's pretty comfortable to wear. It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to customize the inserts in the bag but I think I have it for now; though my opinion may change and then I'll have to reconfigure it all over again. I'd have liked a few more inserts though, I had to borrow an insert from another bag to get it the way I wanted. Tip of the hat to maxwell1295 for sharing the information on this bag.

Given that it doesn't have an option to change, I'd assume it's Canadian dollars.

That's odd, I ordered a brown one on Oct 19 and had no problems paying with paypal. Just waiting for it to slowly make it's way down to California.
