Hi All! I also posted this question in the Beginner's Thread and I need your advice. I was given an Ultra Achromatic Takumar 300mm f5.6 which needs repair because the focus ring just spins (friend removed screws to try cleaning internals himself but gave up). How rare is this lens and is it worth getting repaired? Where in UK? Thanks!

Hi All! I was given this Ultra Achromatic Takumar 300mm f5.6 by a friend which needs cleaning and repair. He tried disassembling it himself but gave up mid-way because he can't or don't know how to remove the remaining screws. Now the focus ring just spins without the lens actually focusing. Aperture blades look ok and functioning. The barrel looks very good with little signs of use. How rare is this lens and is it worth to get it repaired? Where in the UK can I send it for such repair? Any suggestion/answer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome! Yeah, the Pentax plant is there in Cebu and yet I doubt it if you'll find that many camera shops there, harder still to find one carrying the Pentax brand. If you manage to go to Manila, try shops in Hidalgo St., Quiapo. You'll be amazed with how much second hand items you can find there. And very cheap! I managed to get a K 50mm f1.2 for 6000 pesos ($120) when I last visited. Just don't buy them all and leave some for me when I come to visit again.:)

Thanks for the replies, guys! I just wanted to make sure that nothing happens to my prized possessions.:) As I said I will be taking two bodies (an Olympus E-3 and a Pentax K10d) and will be totally devastated if one or both gets damaged. Both have adapters to take m42 lenses so don't worry about the different mounts.

Hi all! I will be travelling abroad in a couple of weeks and it is my first time to carry my photography kit with me. I'll be bringing 2 DSLR bodies with grips, 4 lenses, a flash, chargers, filters and other accessories. My question is, is it safe for DSLR bodies, lenses and memory cards to be x-rayed at the airport? Also, what is allowed to carry onboard and what is prohibited? I have read in one article that a rocket blower was disallowed! Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!:)

My first attempt with a Super Tak 55mm f1.8. Still need a lot of practice to learn focusing and metering with this lens. Looking forward to an enjoyable learning experience.:)

Thanks for the replies! They're great help and clarified lots of points. Had a look at the "clubs" and liked them all! Very good pictures! The Takumars look good and versatile. Is it a wise choice to go that route? Is it easy to obtain adapters for my other two systems? What sort of price range should I be looking at? After looking at the pictures, I think the monster has been awaken and I'm sure the wife will not be happy. And while you're at it, give me advice on what to say to the wife just in case!:D

Hi! I'm new to Pentax system. I'm into experimenting with old, manual lenses. After trying it with Canon and Olympus and feeling let down and disappointed, I'm ready to give Pentax a try. I just got a second-hand K10d and I'm impressed with the amount of control it gives the user as compared to Canon and Olympus. Also its compatibility to older lenses is better than the others. I'm about to start obtaining some older lenses but have no idea where to start. Bayonet, Screw, M, A, Limited or Takumars? Zooms or primes? Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I'm a hobbyist who is new to Pentax digital. I entered the world of digital photography via Canon then tried the Olympus 4/3 system. Though i have enjoyed using these systems, I feel that something is missing. I love experimenting with different set-ups and also into using older, cheaper lenses. I think and I hope Pentax is the best way to achieve this. If I do, I'll get rid of the other two systems I have! I've been reading threads on this site for quite a while now and find it very informative. And decided to join when I bought my K10d. Cheers!
