Unless you're storing them in a temperature stable environment (like a basment or cellar), I would not store them airtight long-term. This is coming from advice on document archiving, but the same principles apply. See How to keep paper preserved |

I'll add one other tip; get yourself an LCD Loupe like the Kinotehnik LCDVF. They can be bought on eBay for less than $30 used if you're patient. With that, manual focus and a f/4-5.6 aperture, you could manual focus well enough for cooking videos.

Even scratches to the rear element have less influence than you might think. I have a Tamron 28-75 with light scuffs on the front and rear element. Tested against a 28-75 mounted on a Nikon, the contrast and flare were very similar, only a slight loss in detail (probably due to assembly differences).

I'll also echo BigMack's recommendation for the Tamron 28-75 for APS-C. Half the weight and well over half the cost of the 24-70. Buy two of them and keep the one that is decentered less (I've owned three and they all were a little different opitcally across the full zoom range).

If you are coming from Nikon, you'll notice that BBF does not allow trap focus / catch-in-focus on Pentax AF lenses. Only MF lenses can work via trap focus, unless you cover specific pins when mounting your AF lens.

From a beginner's standpoint I prefer the K-3 / II simply because of the dedicated button layout. If you think about a beginner, they are just learning the photography triangle; Aperture, Shutter and ISO. On the K-3 Aperture, Shutter and ISO all have dedicated buttons or dials. However on the K-70 ISO is a multi-function button on the back via the 4-way directional pad.

I'll add one more to UncleVanya's comment. The flucard I had would get warm when the K-3 was on. If you dig deep enough here on the forums there was at least one other individual who complained about their card getting hot. Considering a normal SD card stays pretty close to ambient temp, this always concerned me about potential write errors during capture on the flucard. As such it may not be a bad idea to write to both SD slots.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, bargain priced Asking Price
45.00 USD Item Location
Wisconsin (United States) Item Description
I acquired this Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 lens with an old *ist D a while back. It's the Made in Japan version. It's a very clean looking lens, but clearly the previous owner did not have much care for keeping objects away from the glass! There are small, visible scratches on the front element, about 1-2cm. The rear element has scuffs, they are not deep and appear to be mostly on the coating.
You might be wondering how badly this affects picture quality? Amazingly not much, test shots below.
Comes with front cap, I haven't found a rear cap but I'll try and see if I have a spare sitting around my basement. 28, 50 and 75mm test shots here: 28-75 Tamron - Google Photos Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
White Pentax K-x, bargain priced Asking Price
70.00 USD Item Location
Wisconsin (United States) Item Description
For sale is my last Pentax body, the 12MP White K-x. Shutter count is just under 13,000. Sensor is clean and so is the mirror box. AF functions with both screwdrive and SDM lenses. Otherwise, I'd call it KEH "Bargain" category for the following reasons:
-Visible dust in the viewfinder
-Scratches on LCD
-Popup flash sometimes does not open 100%
-No rubber eyecup
-A few dings and scratches on the body
The pictures don't show these flaws very well.
$70 plus shipping. I'll include Duracell Low-self discharge batteries and a Panasonic charger for an extra $10. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

A number of years ago I also came to the same conclusion. The easiest and most plausible explanation is that Pentax only had to focus their attention on CDAF for the K-01. Less code to put into the firmware, less bugs, so the focus algorithm is slightly more tuned than the other bodies. Quote: For anyone who's considering the K-3 for purely live view mode, please consider that it is a tad slower than the K-01 when using live view. Is it considerably slower? No, but noticeable if you've used them both. test notes below.
Live View Test:
-Shooting a white wall 10ft away; the room has natural sunlight coming in. This setup forces the lens to zoom to each distance extreme before obtaining focus.
-Pentax FA 50mm f/1.4 lens.
-I start the stop watch when I press the trigger, and stop it when the live view point turns green (indicating focus lock).
-This was averaged out over about 20 shots for each camera. I say "about" because sometimes it would not lock focus.
K-01 will obtain focus time in 1.6 seconds fastest, 2.1 seconds slowest
K-3 obtained focus time 1.8 seconds fastest, 2.2 seconds slowest

55.00 USD Shipping Included Item Location
Wisconsin (United States) Item Description
For sale is my Pentax *ist D 6.1 MP DSLR Camera. It's in good, clean working order. It's missing the rubber eyecup and has visible dust in the viewfinder. Also, the PC sync plug cover is detached but stays well. EXIF information doesn't record shutter count, so camerashuttercount.com doesn't work. Comes with a number of extras, including:
*ist D Owners Manual
D-BG1 OEM Grip
OEM USB PC Cable
OEM Composite Out Cable
OEM AC Adapter
Two (2) 2GB Sandisk Ultra II CF Cards

Hi Everyone,
I'm clearing out all of my Pentax gear. I'll be posting pictures tomorrow, but here is a rundown of everything below. Add $10 shipping for each item, purchase two or more items and I'll ship them for free! All payments are to be made through Paypal. For all lenses, front and rear glass has no fungus, haze, or scratches. The aperture blades are clean, oil free, and do not stick. The focus ring is smooth and does not creep
EDIT: I'm open to offers on the remaining lenses
-Sigma 28MM F/1.8 EX DG Macro - comes with Hoya Pro1 77MM multi-coated UV filter, front and rear caps. Soft at F/1.8, sharp by F/2.8. This lens I want to note that it has some cosmetic modifications done to the area around the hood collar. This lens is prone to flaking its soft-touch material, so I applied a urethane coating to keep the flakes from possibly entering the lens. Also the filter ring functions fine, but has some nicks in it. $130 or $120 without the filter
-Tamron 28-75MM - comes with 67MM protective filter, front and rear caps and original box. This was my favorite lens and is sharp at F/2.8, tack sharp at F/4. $190 -SMC PENTAX-DA 16-45mm F/4 ED - comes with original box, front and rear caps and Sony Multi-coated 67MM protective filter $145 -Tamron 90MM F/2.8 Macro w/ PKA adaptall mount. This lens is not too common in adaptall mount, it's Tamron's 72B adaptall and is MANUAL FOCUS. I'm including my coveted PKA adapter with it, along with original box, pouch, front and rear caps. $135 -Metz 48 AF-1 - fully functional but in well used condition, updated to the latest 6.0 firmware and is even compatible with the K-1. Has a battery cover that can be dislodged when opening. $45 -Pentax D-BG5 Battery Grip. This is new, never used. Came with my K-3 as a bundle and never used it. $70 -Tenpa 1.36x Eyepiece magnifier. The eyepiece mount has been shaved away to fit properly on the K-3. Comes with circular eye-cup and original box. $30
-SMC PENTAX-FA 50mm F/1.4 - comes with multi-coated 49mm filter, front and rear caps $125
-Pentax K-3, 4,273 shutter count, with original box, 16GB Toshiba SD Card, two batteries (OEM and one Lamar version), charger and neck strap. $400 |
