Okay, thanks-I guess the problem is Aperture. I am still using Aperture 2.1.4 as I am on a PPC G5 and can't upgrade to Aperture 3. I am actually not running the RAW Compatibility Update 3.1 that was just released with K-7 support as installing that turned all of my images turned to maroon rectangles with an error that they couldn't be displayed, so I rolled back to 3.0. Since I shoot DNG over PEF this isn't a big deal, but good to hear that I'm not missing out on features by not installing that one.
Fortunately I can ID the photos based on the focal length as I don't (currently) have any other lenses that match it.

I just picked up a DA* 55 to use with my K-7 and I've noticed that the EXIF data field for Lens Model is blank in Aperture. The focal length is reported correctly, and everything else works normally. All of my other lenses report their Model correctly, so I'm wondering if this is normal or if the DA 55 doesn't have that info embedded in it's chip for some reason? Perhaps the K-7 needs a firmware update before it will recognize it correctly?

I just got the KatzEye without Optibright (and with the Autofocus grid) and so far I really like it and find it to be a great asset. Thanks everyone for the advice.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to order one and give this a shot, but I'm undecided on the OptiBright option. I have mostly fast primes, but the lens I am most interested in manual focusing with 180mm f4.
This is what Katz Eye says about it:
The general rule of thumb in choosing the correct screen is to assess what lenses will be in common use. If the photographer mainly uses fast prime lenses, the untreated screen is the best choice. But if the photographer uses a mix of lenses that includes compact zooms and/or telephotos, the OptiBrite treated screen is recommended for best viewfinder appearance. Thanks for any insight.

The magnifying eye piece means I would be looking at a less than 100% view correct?
How would I compensate for the metering difference with the focusing screen in Av mode for example? Would I make an EV adjustment and pretty much forget about it at that point, or would I need to be evaluating this often depending on what lighting I am in?

This is my first post, but I've been learning a lot by reading these forums and I am looking forward to some great advice to help me decide if a Katz Eye focusing screen would benefit me.
I've read a bunch of threads on the ins and outs of focusing screens, but am still not sure if one would help me. I have a K7 and I wear glasses (if that matters at all). My main lenses are FA 77, FA 50, FA 31 and a recently picked up manual focus Voigtlander 180/4. I also have a DA 21 that doesn't see much use since I got the FA 31, and a DA* 16-50 that I use when bad weather threatens. Down the road I can see myself getting a FA 50 Macro and a DA 12-24.
It is important to me to be able to shoot indoors in low light. I mostly use auto focus and intend to continue to use auto focus very heavily. I never use flash. I'd like to start doing a bit more manual focus, and of course I'd like some help focusing with the Voigtlander. Are there drawbacks that I will notice if I get a focusing screen? I'm concerned about having a darker viewfinder that would make composition more difficult when indoors in low light. I'm also concerned if this could cause difficulty or problems with auto focus?
I'm aware of the opti bright option, and that does seem like it would help.
