Thanks for your comments Truff. It was actually a 400mm. I forgot to change the camera because it's an older manual 400.
I know, what are the chances of 2 owl submissions.
Cheers

Deep in our rainforest, hidden in the shadows, these obscure ghosts wait in silence as they watch for their next meal to appear. The Barred Owl is silent in his flight and is rarely seen, unless you catch it flying by you.
We hunted for in the early morning for two days where we had heard they were last seen. Just as we were ready to give up and head home Craig, a fellow photographer caught large shadow gliding down to the river bed from the forest. It was what we were looking for and it quickly and as silently as it came to the ground, it grabbed it's meal and flew up to this perch. where I was able to capture this image.
I knew I was unable set up a tripod in time, so I just cranked up the ISO to 12800 and at 1/400 sec, f8 I shot away.
The result was noisy but I liked the image so in post processing i added some film grain and a texture layer.
This round 2 was very challenging and it was difficult choosing an appropriate photo to fit the themes, but after reading about these birds, they are truly obscure ghosts of the woods...
For those that choose or vote for this image, I thank you in advance!
