I just love this lens, it is on my camera about 95 percent of the time. it is a lens that I can rely on in an emergency or a "shot on the draw"
I have nailed several shots and if you click on the images below and peruse the rest of my shots on Flickr, most of those shots were done with an 18~135mm lens, here is a little taste of what I have been up to-
I got lucky on this one it is a 100% crop and as you can see it has great detail and IQ- IMGP3093.jpg by MacawDude 007, on Flickr
Here is one of my favorites, all you gotta do is hold it real still lol- IMGP1861.jpg by MacawDude 007, on Flickr IMGP1893.jpg by MacawDude 007, on Flickr
Dont let others tell you cannot get some awesome shots with this lens, here is another favorite of mine- IMGP2472.jpg by MacawDude 007, on Flickr IMGP2147.jpg by MacawDude 007, on Flickr IMGP2721 by MacawDude 007, on Flickr IMGP2801-Edit-Edit.jpg by MacawDude 007, on Flickr IMGP1897.jpg by MacawDude 007, on Flickr
I could go on forever............
I just limited myself to just this lens when I went on vacation and pretty much recently, if you know the limitations of this lens, then you can make some awesome photographs with it, but then again that is my own opinion, I just let my images speak for themselves.....

I shoot mostly a K3 and K1 now, this pic is of me taken by my wife while out hiking and shooting, in the pic I am sporting the k3/100 macro WR. this was shot with a K5 (my ol'trusty camera) with 18-135 lens. my wife is finally taking up photography and wants to learn on the K5, even though I have an extra K3 to offer her to use. I've recieved my Loupdeck the other night, have only about 1 hour on it so far and I just love it, I like being able to do multiple adjustments at the same time and not having to line my cursor up to those tiny slider triangles one at a time. This controller is fully customizable and I have already customized some knows. Processing my images takes a lot less time with this thing.
My wife is new to light room and hates searching all around the menus and adjustment panels, now she can easily learn the loupdeck in a matter of minutes and Lr isnt so intimidating to her anymore

My thoughts exactly, I didn't buy the
K1 because I thought I would like it better, or thought it was going to replace my crop body. I bought it for a certain niche in my photography, and it fits in well with my K3, they compliment each other and have their own uses and cover the shortcomings of the other.....they get equal usage.

Hey folks, I just received my (new to me) 77mm limited, I got it for a killer deal at $400. When I got the box, I was thinking wow this this has a bit of weight to it. Once I opened it up I was realizing it was because of the glass and metal construction.
Now......I have never even seen a limited lens in person so I didn't know what to expect, I've even heard how legendary they are........all i can say is WOW!!!! This is the nicest lens I've seen yet, the build quality is just perfect! I am very impressed. Even at full price this lens is totally worth it.
I have collected mostly zooms and have a handful of primes, mostly vintage A lenses and i have a DA 50mm, f1.8, and a DFA 100mm macro f2.8 which i am very impressed with, but compared to this 77mm, it pales in comparison, even though the 100mm is very well built. I popped off a shot with my K1 of a tree and just looking at the image on the camera, I think I will be shooting mostly primes from here on out! Now......where to find me the rest of the 3 amigos.....

I recommend the K3, however this post is more about the lens, you will use it for children and skittish cats, I highly recommend the 55-300 PLM, it has the fastest focusing of all Pentax lenses, for that reason alone makes it worth every penny, then get something like a DA 16-85, I personally never used one, but I hear nothing but good things about that lens

Thanks for everyone's responses, they were very informative. My wife decided to pick up my K5 and use it while she learns, she will be movi.g up to the K3 very soon. She just loves the 18-135, and is actually getting some good shots, I see she has an eye for photography, some of her shots are better than mine and I cannot be more proud of her. I am not being overbearing this time so she wont be overwhelmed and scared away from the art, instead I'm here to answer questions and guide her when she needs. She has discovered my 100mm lens for her macro work which is her favorite genre, so for now she will be using those two lenses, and over time she will venture about and start using all the rest of my lenses. I'm getting a K1 soon so my main shooters will be one of the K3s and the K1, she will have use of the other K3, the K5, and the K01. I am thrilled she is really taking to this, now we go out more so we can go shoot, it's great to find something that we both absolutely love doing, plus it makes it easier when I go buy more gear.....no arguement from her....lol
Herr is my main Pentax gear..... Attachment 485173 |

wife is getting into photography finally! well one of her favorite subjects is, well, you know......ME! lol
This was taken with my good ol'trusty 18-135 which I have her started on. shot taken at Red Rock here in Vegas, I was sporting my K3/DFA100 macro WR, wich I just love using, although I have a feeling she is going to lay claim to it once she uses it, she seems to be leaning towards macro photography...
please excuse the purple fringing, edits were done quickly on these shots, plus I dont see the fringing on the edited images on my computer, so I imagine it was done during compression for this post Attachment 484130 Attachment 484131 |

trying out my DFA 150-450 lens on the K1 yesterday while the USAF T-birds did a "first responders and medical" honorary flyby....I like the focusing on the K1 compared to the K3, but I am liking the added reach of the APSC sensor of the K3, however I will continue to use the lens on the K1, really happy with the results. these shots were taken on my rooftop on a tripod with gymble head.....it worked really well. Thread resurrection.....sorry for bring this thread up again, I saw my old post in here about the Sigma I got at a pawn shop, however I have quite a bit more to add since its been like nine years since I posted....
I moved from Georgia to Las Vegas in '13, and since then I constantly comb all the pawn shops here, and have found many a deal, many lenses, some flash accessories, camera bodies, etc...
I found that Pentax gear pretty much sits on the shelves forever, which is a plus for you patient shoppers out there, and my patience has paid of exponentially. I got a DFA 150-450 (originally priced at $1865) for $1000 out the door after patiently waiting for eight months and keeping an eye on it, I love this lens and it is in mint condition. at the time they also had a K1 for same price and the price went down to $865 with a shutter count of 4000 clicks, however when I decided to go and get it, it was sold, but they did have a Silver edition K3 w/ battery grip and I offered $300 for it and got it, even though I didnt need another K3(shutter count was 4000 clicks as well.
I have done very well here with Pentax gear in the pawn shops and continue to keep it up, just last week I picked up a lens that sat in the pawn shop for over two years, it is an A 70-210 f4 in brand new mint condition, and I walked out of there with it after offering $20 out the door. I also picked up a new condition K1 for $1000 off of OfferUp from a young photographer who kept the camera in pristine condition. I have also picked up many a deal on vintage gear off of letgo as well....
So..... in short, deals are out there to be had folks, you just gotta be vigilant and super patient.......
