Mcgregni, well spoken. May I add: as the spotbeam gets commanded from the camera, make shure the flash is well seated on the shoe and locked. I own the K-1 and an Af360fgz2 (which shares the same user manual). With the lenscap on, the spotbeam gets activated when the camera tries to AF (with an AF lens).

I believe I had the exact same problem with my newly acquired Irix 15mm lens. This lens had be sitting on my camera for some months when I went ill (and in hospital).
The camera with lens on it, was safely stored in "household"conditions in a waterproof case. When I started photographing again, the K-1 had F - - and no photo's could be taken with this lens.
I put it on my backup K30 and it failed also (cannot remember the symptoms on the k30). The K-1 with my other lenses was ok at that time.
As this was a new lens, I went back to the shop for guarantee service. (I showed It andit failed in the shop also).
The lens was sent the the Irix service center, where it stayed for over a month.
The camera shop was well aware of the delay and was putting some presure on the repair center (in Poland I believe).
At last I received a replacement copy (other serial number), which worked.

It was beautifully packaged in a metal container!
I must say that lens flare was much better, than I expected (from reviews). I am posting 1 photo againts the sun, this afternoon.
Also a photo from the K mount, witch shows the camera contacts and the aperture actuator.
Note, that the actuator is fully unprotected, unless most Pentax lenses! We have to be very careful; with this. Fortunately, the lens comes with 2 back-caps.

I went to a shop nearby, and asked if they could get the 35mm Art, WITH the modification for my K-1. They could. I was allowed to test it in the shop and I bought it, and i am happy with it. Oh and the price was comparable to the onine -shop offerings. But I must say, that it was the same shop, where I bought my K-1, first.

I wonder, what the subject was. From the manual: " If the subject is not in focus with the focus mode set to AF.S (...) , no picture may be taken. "

I bought the kit with 18-135 and took advantage of the 50 Euro cashback action, here in the Netherlands. Bying price was 929 Euro (without the cashback).

I have the K-m and I'm using spot-focus exclusively. My camera seldom hunts for focus, also I want to decide where the focus point of a scene is, not let the machine determine.
But then again, I'm not a sports/action photographer, and weather resistance can be worth its price.

Adobe has released a free Windows (7) codec that plugs in into the Explorer, so it will display miniatures and fullscreen DNG files. I have tested it with my K-m DNG files, and it works nicely.

I do not have the K-x, but I wonder if the battery compartment construction is similar as in the K-m, which I own. And maybe the springs are too weak also (see my post about the K-m here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/627075-post19.html
Maybe they are greasy too, like in my K-m when it was new.

I would never attach "old" flash units to my K-m (yes I do own one); unless the trigger voltage is measured by myself, and is safe (beow 15 volt or so).
I use studio stobes often, and I'm pretty shure the flash "contact" (the larger central contact) closes ALWAYs in any mode). I Use a radio remote, for that
In particular the "Vivitar 2000" might be dangerous. Look in the list of "flash trigger voltages" here: Photo Strobe Trigger Voltages
Maybe the trigger circuit in your camera ia already damaged by your flash unit(s).

"Eneloop" brand batteries became recently available (here in Holland). I switched to these , and I am happily surprised. They last very long although rated "only" 2000mAH.
My electronics supplier also sells rechargeble Lithium AA cells, but these are NOT for the K-m because they have a voltage of 3.6 volt, which will surely damage the K-m!

Hello! I have the K-m which has improved Autofocus, however as Marc said, probably Manual focus is better in your case.
The Pentax 55/1.4 is not razor-sharp at 1.4
You might pre-focus on a gate where the dog is supposed to jump.
I have a legacy M-42 lens with K adapter: a Mamiya Sekor 55/1.8.
I already owned this lens, but these lenses are not difficult to come by for a few bucks.
The focus-assist light*) - and beep work well, with such lenses.
Also you can buy a new K-m for an incredible low price.
Regards, Jan
