Is it just me or is there a lack of affordable 2.8 zoom lenses?

sorry to dig this back up, but what about a 35-70mm f2.8 manual focus? i just picked one up for about 30 bucks, i'd say that's pretty affordable. your thread actually inspired me to look for it

K-r with 18-55mm and 50-200mm for $634 ($588 after cash back) at buy.com, that's the best price I've seen for this. I bought it two days ago. See my thread about this in the PriceWatch subforum

Oh, and there are coupons for new buy.com customers out there too, which I didn't use as I'm not a new buy.com customer, but I'm pretty sure they're out there, with a quick search on google.

Old news, yes, but I hope it will be able to help out another member in a similar situation. I found it at a Ritz Camera, it must have been left over from years back. It's slow, has no shake reduction, and a tiny lo-res lcd, but it's mine!

I hope this isn't old news, but I tried searching and couldn't find anything.

I just bought a brand new *ist D a few weeks ago and couldn't figure out how to stop down the aperture for metering, for my manual lenses. My green button would only meter at wide open aperture. I was starting to think it was only a feature for the newer cameras.

As it turns out, it was just a matter of updating the firmware. I had version 1.00 and updated to v1.12 and it works like a charm now!

To check your firmware version, hold down Menu while turning the camera On.

For firmware updates for *ist D:
