K3 or K3ii

Thanks for responses so far. I don't have much need for a built in GPS or the astrotracking. I also mainly use off camera strobes so the flash isn't an issue either. However, if may be handy when travelling for the family snaps. The pixel shift on the K-3ii may be useful but I believe it won't work for landscapes if there is wind or water flowing. Is this correct? Is the AF on the K-3ii much better than the K-3? The AF on the K20D can be abysmal in low light.
And, now to make the decision harder the FF is coming.

I have a k20d and some prime and zoom lenses. I started looking for a smaller camera to take on an overseas trip. However, cost of good quality 16Mp compact camera is quite high. I am now thinking I can take the k20 with a 40mm pancake lens on the trip and buy a k3 to upgrade my system. Is the K3ii worth the extra $?

Zoom lens for portrait

I have been doing a bit more portrait work lately and although I thought I had a pretty good range of lenses (DA 40mm, DA 70mm, DA 16-45mm and DA 55-300mm) I am finding some additional flexibility between 40mm and 70mm would be good. I use a K20d at present. My shoots vary between full body and head shots. I love the DA 70mm but it can be a fraction long for full body. I am looking for a fast focusing lens and a high quality image. Any thoughts much appreciated.

blank frames on K20D

Sorry guys, I forgot to mention it was daytime and the flash was only used for fill. Data on back was showing 1/90 and f4.5 so I should have been seeing something. I hope I can get to the bottom of it as it is a great camera otherwise. As I am doing more and more fashion stuff I am tempted to change to Canikon but dread the expense.

blank frames on K20D

Out on a shoot yesterday and my camera started to return blank frames. Monitor black but showing normal aperture and shutter speeds when reviewing. I was using the AF540 flash connected by pentax cable. I tried all the flash modes, put the flash directly on the camera but success. Luckily it came good again with a few odd intermittent blank frames just to annoy me. Anyone got any clues on what happened? I had the vertical grip and two fully charged batteries. If this continues I'm afraid I will be leaving Pentax for good.

Is this dust on the sensor?

Further update. I followed the 'Those Black Spots on your Photos' instructions and have managed to get rid of the dust after only one go with the blower brush. The dust mapping function is a great help. I was resigned to having to pay someone for cleaning my sensor. Thanks again.

I have noticed this spot on my pictures now and again. Always in the same spot I used to think it was only relating to my zoom lens but now it is showing up on my 70mm prime pics. It is most noticable on bright blue skys or water. I daresay I have had this problem from when I purchased my K20D new. Is this dust or some other issue? Any advice on a solution will be much appreciated.
Thanks

I'm in a dilema re portrait lens for K20

I should have mentioned that I own the 40mm and it is great for the longer shots.
At $200+ cheaper than the 77mm the 70mm looks like being the pick. Thanks for the advice.

I'm in a dilema re portrait lens for K20

I'm looking for a portrait lens to do some model shoots in near future. Main use would be close up head shots or head and shoulders with some full length body shots. I am torn between the FA 77m f1.8 Ltd, Da 70mm f2.4 and FA 100mm f2.8 Macro WR. I've read how 'magic' the 77mm lens is and how sharp the DA 70mm is. How does the 77mm AF speed compare to the Da 70mm? I have read coflicting reports on which is faster. The 100mm macro was a late entry but has the additional macro versatility. Is the 77mm truly that good and worth the extra cash?

Light weight tripod recommendation

I'm looking for a lightweight tripod to take overseas in June. I have a Manfrotto 190 with 3 way head but it does not pack up very small. Is there anything around without spending too much that would hold a DSLR and 300mm lens? Something not too bulky and packs up under 50cm in length would be ideal.

K20 AF540 and Metz 36ct2

Just wondering whether I can run my K20 with an old Metz flash via a sync cable and the AF540 from hotshoe or the special pentax cable at the same time.
Or do I need to run the AF540 via a sync cable also?

Has anyone had any experience with how the Pocket Wizards work with the Pentax gear. Will I require any additional equipment like hot shoes? I also have a Metz 36CT2 which will hopefully work OK.

Cables to connect k20D to Metz & Pentax flash

Hi,
I have a Metz 36CT2 flash which is quite old but still works OK and a new Pentax 540 pttl flash that I just got from B&H. Is there a way I can utilse both units preferably by cable? The Metz doesn't appear have a sync socket.
The Pentax needs the F5 cable plus type F and/or Fg hotshoes from what I can gather.
Thanks
Greg

I have the 16 -45 and 55 - 300 and it covers things quite well. Just to throw a spanner in the works, have you considered a prime - the 35mm f2.8 macro is a beauty.

International shipping of PP software

Is there any restriction on the international shipping of software? In particular, the Nik complete package -will the software keys work in another country other than the one it is sold in? Apologies if this is a basic question.
Thanks
Greg
