I like the fact that just one day after I published the idea of a achromatic sensor rangefinder, today Tom Hogan published an open letter to leica telling them... just the same... (by no means I say that he steal my idea, it's just that that would be the logical step...)

OK, let's say you stick to the autofocus ones, then you have the focus motor but on reverse, so, when you move the lens focus, you move that thing that will tell the camera where you are focusing. Could it work? Otherwise, the electronic indicator sounds well, otherwisk, RF lens line compatile with m mount could do the trick ;) can you imagine, a Leica MP with a Pentax 35mm 1.0 specially designed for RF??? Pentax lenses are usually smaller than canikon equivalents, leicas are smaller than voigt's and zeiss... So, would be quite a nice niche market. Anyway, The achromatic sensos in a rangefinder is the most important part of it...

This is my wishlist based on the way I take photos and the troubles I owuls usually encounter. I'm completly aware that this would not make sense for most people.
K1 A serious fine art photograher camera...
No live view (I'm sorry, I don't believe in vdeo from a photo camera, I believe more in photo from a RED camera...), no screen actually, let's get back to actually see the results in the darkroom, why? RAW only, so procesor would be only to pass the data from the sensor to th memory, that would mean: less electrical activity, less battery use, les heat, less noise (that's just a guess), at the very least faster frmae rate. But above all, that sense of exitment of the old film days again :) Pariculary don't like subject grabing my camera to see how did they came out in the picture... this way, no discussion.
So, a FF CCD like the kodak one would be nice, without AA filter like in the leicas so things are sharrrp. 14 or 16 bit files please. Then, a good raw decoder software on a computer, and a good agreement with major software, like lightroom.
K7 body is quite nice, maybe I would take out the flash and would put a wireless flash integrated (I only use the popup flash as a control of wxternal flashes). A tetthered shooting option. Some way to be able to use old glass, incuiding metering, the camera could use multisegment light metering and we would jut imput the aperture manualy (just like we do with focal for SR), prism focusing screen 1.0x magnification viewfinder with 100% area. So far so good, I think this would be my dream SLR, there could be a viewfinder but the option to show a preview should be optional (not only in the sense of showing it but procesing for showing it, and a lid on top of the screen so it would not be visible. This should cost around 2000-2500€
KRF1 (K Range Finder 1)
Take a Voightlander Bessa R4, make it bulletproof like a Leica MP, maybe a bit slimer. But with that multi range lines viewfinder. Put a K mount (would not make much sens to use a M mount for pentax). Add FF acromatic sensor, maybe that kodak CCD without the bayer pattern, (like that mid format Acromatic+ back there is). ok, if you want add even the APSC from KX, but without the bayer patern, and the AA would be useless, of course... 14 or 16 bit files, Add a sweet f0.95 lens to the colection.
Here you have, a pure breed, black and white rangefinder camera with great dynamic range and extremly fine resolution. This is a camera based all on existing technology, it should cost around 1000-1500€
About the RAW conversion software, (I use lightroom), I would like a feature that would expose the photo based on the point I decide, just like spot metering...

I have a K10, LX3 and a K7 (bought them in that order, this is of the matter as it has some influence on the software I use.
I have always shoot in RAW, I really don't think pentax cameras are intended to be really used in JPG mode (altough newer models are adding those fancy efects).
Since the begining I used Lightroom since I found it very useful for large library management and quick edition (my library has around 35000 pictures by now, of course, I really need to review it and downsize it by 90%). The lightroom 3 beta is really amazing, the 2.6 is amazing too. From there I usualy go to PS CS4 for fine edition, or to DXO (before was the 5 then the 6).
Tried Capture One 5, it's nice, well streamlined and results are good, but i think the real advantages come for thetered shooting, library management is not so good to my current customs at least.
Tried Bible 6, it's good, it's nice to have the noise ninja there, again, file management is not great, of course, I might be eally biased by the years of lightroom use.
The LX3 came with silkypix, wich I find it too weird and cumbersome, the lens correction modules are nice tough.
DXO is not compatible with K7 yet (this month it's supposed to become compatible). It's a pitty since I think K7 would benefit a lot from it I also have the film mode modules from DXO, I find it nicer to use than alienskin and niksoft, altough this two work great too. Yes DXO is slow, but you get great results (unless you try to ever-correct things)
Lightroom 2.6 is great, in many senses I like the aproach it has for noise reduction since I find it mor "photograohic" than DXO, I think DXO can make images very neat, but sometimes at great expense on detail, I was specially surprised when I say the difference with my dad's G9, Lightroom tends to leave some fine grain instead and the result looks more natural, just the same aproach that pentax has actually.
Lightroom 3 is a GREAT improvement, I'm really eager for the final verison to come.
Well, that's my two cents

underexposure I would say, but shootig RAW it just means that you can hold a lot of detail in highlights, anyway I ussually use shadows as negative space...

Has anyone seen the DXO reviews of the sensors? The panasonic versions always get higher grades than the pentax ones... Why??? Could it be that samsung is giving pentax somewhat "cripled" sensors? Remember those reviews are taken straight to the sensors with no lens taken on account...

Well, I've seen other noise shots (with unespecified pre-release firmware) aviable in the internet and I think that it is quite good even comparing it with professional cameras.
I have never cared too much about the agressivenes or not of the camera procesing mostly because I always shoot in raw and postproduce in the computer (I know there are many good reasons why other people wouldn't do this anyway), in fact, I would love to see a full RAW optimized camera, where all the procesing and eerything would be just made to capture the widest synamic range with the higest quality straight from the sensor to the card as fast as possible with no mid-processing... just a thought. Then they could make some software add-on for the main raw editors (Lightrom, DXO and Capture One) which could be a lot more powerful than what you can put in a chip in the camera...
I don't know, but this days it seems to me that most people who buy a DSLR at this level almost always shoots RAW and postproduces, even for those who shoot JPEG they almost always postproduce, so, why not?
I'm sorry, Im divagating too much fom the subject, but then back to the noise issue in hand, I would like to see RAW shots with no treatment, so we would see "native" noise, and then from there we can talk...
