Poll: Is it time to retire the “Pentax is DOOMED!!” Meme? The Best of PF Dec. 27 Poll

I was at a Christmas market a couple of weeks ago shooting with my K-1 mII, and a lady stopped to ask me a couple questions about my camera. I told her it was a Pentax, which is a premium brand, and left it at that. This will be my standard response to this kind of inquiry from now on.

It may be an “inside joke”, but outsiders don’t understand it. It never should have been allowed to get started.

Others speculation about Pentax K-1III

That's probably true. I think we just have to see the years around 2010 (121 million sales!)as an anomaly and thus the cycles of new generations hyped. Now there should be around 8 million sales and the logical consequence is trying to get higher margins per model and unit.
It's amazing how capable the K-1 still is, same for the KP. As As Ricoh, in contrast to others, did not ditch the mount, they will have to find other attractors for new lenses to keep people buying. I think the new AF capalities and the fact that it can play to its full potential with a new generation of ultrasonic in lens motors might be an obvious way to keep the attraction high also for existing users with lenses.

Maybe some visual hints or prototype under glass in late January or February with a late spring to early summer release cycle would be nice and follow the original K1 release schedule.

Pentax K1 II vs Nikon D850

Some correct me if I'm wrong but no in body stabilization for your older lenses on the D850. That was the biggy for me.

For the most part the images are very close, with an ordering, bottom to top K-1 close to D850 res but not quite, but indistinguishable on most images.. D850, noticeable moire on some test images, K-1 with pixel shift, top of the heap. That based on images viewed at imaging Resources. The attractive D850 qualities, faster frame rate, better AF-c and tracking. K-1, better AF-s and single point focus.

Pentax K1 II vs Nikon D850

I have both the D850 and the K-1 ii. They are different. I also have the D800e, D3s, D4, Z 9, and several other Nikon bodies. The D850 is my main studio camera and doesn't go outside. I only bought it because it has focus bracketing and the other DSLRs don't. I like the D850, but if I could only own one it would be the K-1 ii. This camera gets way more use and is more enjoyable to shoot with.

The K-1 ii has Pixel Shift, better colors, better lenses, a tilt shift sensor, in-body shake reduction, Astrotracer, a better phone app, and many others. The D850 is a very competent camera, it locks focus much faster, but it's not a Pentax.

Nice! That's superbly timed, or a happy accident- or both?

But the arrangement so perfectly nestled in the alignment of the glowing cloud needed a little more birdseed passed under the table.

The answer is physics (of fluids) + evolution (of migratory birds).

Physics dictates how the air flows over the bird's wings and creates eddies off the wing tips.

Evolution steadily selects for migratory birds with a natural instinct to use the wingtip eddies of the next bird for a bit of a boost in lift, thus saving a bit of energy for other bodily functions.

I was skeptical when I left work last night a few miles north of you whether the sunset would do much. Boy was I wrong -- and regretting not having my kit packed with me. Nice work to capture a brilliant subject.
