NEW K-3 III Firmware 1.80 is out

A word of caution.

There is possibly a bug related to a flat battery.
I suggest you avoid letting the battery go flat. If it does, turn the camera off and do not turn it on until you have fitted a charged battery (probably good practice anyway).

On the third day of shooting after upgrading to 1.80 I put the wrong battery (half charged) in by mistake and I don't usually carry a spare. I turned the camera off whenever I wasn't using it and eventually the battery indicator went red.
I turned the camera on one more time and the camera was stuck in what appeared to be an old test mode, the display worked, the buttons worked but the shutter didn't, the mode selector didn't work, I could only select ISO 100 or 1600000 nothing else, I could enter the menus but most of the options didn't exist. The camera stayed in this mode no matter what I did.

I took it to CRK and they had never seen the like but after a few days the tech 'tricked' it into reinstalling 1.80 and it came back to life.
I just checked the version currently available from ricoh japan and it's the same hash as the one I installed so so far they haven't done a sneaky fix without telling anyone.

I believe the firmware has a bug. I don't know how far back it goes, it may just be 1.80 it may be earlier.

So just be wary of flat batteries!

That's the one.

Remove the pin and spring (if that's what's used) or bend the tab, remove the pin, unbend the tab (if that's what's used).

Just a word of caution: I just noticed my lens is made by Cosina, yours is by Kobori and may still have springs so be careful.

I think I only ever left the lens in 'A' and used the camera in AV so it was pretty much focus and shoot.

I hope that's a typo, it's a manual focus lens. I'm puzzled, The images show a Vivitar, the info below is for that.

Yes it does and it's the nasty pointy one which is more likely to cause problems. See pic.

Stand the lens on its end with the mount up.

Remove the four screws and lift the mount up carefully (the other brass pin is lightly spring loaded, don't lose the pin or spring). Both pins are captive.

Remove the 'Ricoh' pin (sorry I've forgotten how but it's easy). Bend up the tab, remove the pin, bend the tab back.

Re-assemble (note, the red dots on the body and mount must line up) then black out the '/R' of the PK-A/R to show it's been converted.

Time for some 'probable' good news, the Omicron wave here seems to be on the way down (lets just say that the data is not as reliable as it used to be).

The 'it's only a cold' crowd are claiming it's because everyone has already been infected, but the numbers say otherwise. Only 7.5% of Australians, maybe 10% of Victorians. But I'm guessing closer to 20% of those who 'don't care'.

Voluntary isolation or risk reduction is probably the driving factor aided by some nice hot sunny weather.

Sounds like the right decision to me. I own the Kenko, Tamron and Pentax TC's and optically I honestly can't really tell the difference but, as well as the weather sealing, the Pentax is available NOW, new with warranty.

Victoria, Australia population ~ 6.6 million. 93% of those over 12 fully vaccinated (24% have had 3 doses).

Yesterday 20,180 cases (trending down?), 22 deaths.

A state-wide code brown has been called for the Victorian hospital system after record-high hospital COVID-19 admissions and wide-scale furloughing* of staff.

What is a code brown?

It’s a measure to relieve pressure on hospitals.
It’s typically reserved for sudden, short-term emergencies, such as a train crash or bushfire (for example, a code brown was called during the 2016 thunderstorm asthma event).
During a code brown hospitals can cancel their staff’s leave to ensure an adequate workforce is on hand.
They can also defer less urgent services.
This code brown starts at noon on Wednesday. It’s expected to last four to six weeks.
It will apply to all metropolitan public hospitals. In regional Victoria Geelong’s Barwon Health and the Grampians, Bendigo, Goulburn Valley, Albury Wodonga and Latrobe Regional health groups are also included.
Private hospitals have the option of calling their own code brown.

* furloughing refers to those on leave due to exposure or infection.

Lets hope it's as infectious as Delta and as 'benign' as Omicron. The other way round would not be good.

"World tennis No.1 Novak Djokovic will mount a legal challenge to the last-minute rejection of his visa, after spending eight hours in detention at Melbourne Airport pleading his case to border officials overnight.

Djokovic may be ordered to leave Melbourne as early as Thursday evening after the Australian Border Force said he had failed to provide appropriate evidence to meet the entry requirements to Australia. This evidence is required to be presented at the border by unvaccinated people."

Let's see what happens.

I don't know how true but an 'expert' said they are not very sensitive and should be used once a day for three days so as to catch your (possible) peak. Three negatives and you're probably clear, one positive and you have covid.

Population approx 2,913,000 divided by 14,626 gives 199.

That's 1 person infected in every 199 in one day! What will it be tomorrow?

It will be about the same here today or tomorrow, what will it be where you live?

Well, the Astrazeneca didn't give me 5G so I've just had the Moderna booster. Fingers crossed.

The numbers suggest that today roughly 1 in 330 Victorians will be infected, by Saturday it might be 1 in 100.

Caution Terry, it looks to be the same as the DA*300 screw. If you force it the 'retaining screw' will damage the thread.

Edit: the thread seems to be an M6 (6mm) coarse.
