It is a great lens. The chrome is the best among all the versions of the lens. It will render a swirly (not very extreme) bokeh wide open , which reduces as you stop down. I feel the images it produces have a very "film" look. Sharp in the center from.one stop down. Wide open it flatters the model with its little bit of softness and swirl. Renders skin tones beautifully. In short you'll love it, at least I do.

Both these lenses are great value even without taking pixel shift to consideration.
What did you see in the pixel-shift images that makes them stand out? Asking since I don't have a k1 (as yet).

Some if my speculation/thoughts.
I wish Pentax would open up their technology for auto-focus to enable third party manufacturers to make lenses for Pentax.
I somehow think the heyday for Pentax was when they made m42 cameras and K Mount cameras (not km or ka). In that golden age, you had multiple 3rd party lens manufactures as well as camera makers. Both the basic K mount ams m42 were open enough to let this happen. It also helped that Pentax made truly great lenses.
As further food for thought take a look at Canon. Their autofocus lenses seem to be easy enough to reverse engineer that there are multiple manufacturers for autofocus adapters to Sony nex. I wonder if that's why they rule the roost.
That's all I have. I intend to buy the K1 by the end of summer continuing my participation in thePentax family all the way from 1990( that must seem like yesterday for some folks on the forum!). I hope that Pentax/Rioch thrives and continues to give me the joy I have had for so long.

I tried it for like 15mins. I tried it using a Zeiss Planar 1.4 (c/y mount) and Pentax K 85mm 1.8 lenses. I think the adapter works well for portraits. I am not sure about moving subjects, since the focus took some time (not too long though) to lock. I also think it works well for lenses that are light. Heavier lenses should pose problems since the adapter needs to move the entire lens. Similarly long-focus-throw lenses like a Vivitar 105mm 2.5 (or most macro lenses) may not be usable without some pre-focusing of the lens.

Yes, you can mount m42 lenses (and most other lenses) and have autofocus. The way it works is, m42-lens -> m42-Leica-M-Adapter -->Techart-Pro --> Sony a7ii, i.e. you are stacking adapters. Since the adapters are glassless, most lenses should be see significant change in performance (lenses with floating elements may be affected).

My personal opinion, buy neither. If you want auto-focus, why not try the Techart Pro auto-focus adapter. You can buy a whole lot of manual-focus lenses (like the planar 1.4 50mm or 80mm, Pentax K 55 1.8, 85mm so on) and the appropriate adapters. Now you have relatively less expensive lenses and auto-focus too.

A full frame zoom, which is very useful on APS-C. Reportedly out-performs the DA 18-135 (see here). I bought a copy of the lens from this forum for use on my K5; I liked it a lot (gave it up to shoot primes).
If you are looking for a walk-around zoom, or to shoot family holidays, and weather sealing is not crucial, grab this lens.

Hi,
You can also consider the Pentax 35mm 2.8 macro, supposedly amongst the best macros Pentax ever produced.
Another interesting thought, is to try an enlarging lens. These are known for their flat field properties. They don't come with a focus-ring, but if the artwork and the camera are fixed, it may not be a problem. Most of the enlarging lens come with a M39 thread and should be mountable on the K1 using M39->m42 adapter.

The crop sensor reduces the field-of-view. It should not impact the macro magnification. That's my understanding.

I suspect it is a m42 Mount lens on which an adapter has been fitted. Not sure if it is a Pentax adapter, though that is my best guess.

If you are comfortable with manual focus I would suggest the tokina/vivitar series 1 90mm 2.5 or the Pentax 85mm 1.8. Either of these lenses could be had for ~300$. The tokina/vivitar I think is a better option than the Samyang especially since using a 1.4 on a full frame without focus peaking or evf will prove to be a challenge.
If auto focus is what you prefer I think the 77mm 1.8 is the best option.
My two cents as an amateur.

Both our thoughts are exactly the same and the conclusions we infer is the same. We differ in how we define pixel pitch. I used the definition available here: https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2012/02/sensor-size-matters-part-2/ (look toward the bottom of the article under the section: Calculating the pixel size). As defined there, the pixel pitch is the distance between the center of adjacent pixels. Hence I concluded that since the K3 has more pixels for the same size of sensor, it has a lower pixel-pitch (i.e. distance between the pixels is smaller).
Looking at the review of the K3 Pentax K-3 Review - Detail and Noise | PentaxForums.com Reviews, the reviewer too seems to be using the same definition of pixel-pitch.
Anyways, all that is academic. What's important is the conclusion, which we agree on: Though the K3 has a lesser dynamic range, the higher resolution more that makes up for this, especially for landscape photography.

Agree with all the sentiments and suggestions here. One correction though, the K3 has a lower pixel pitch than the K5 series of camera. This results in the K5 having a better dynamic range than the K3. The K3 supposedly (i don't own one) more than compensates for this with its higher resolution.
That said when you are shooting landscape or wildlife (because you will need to crop), the higher resolution camera is in most cases the better choice, i.e. K3 is the camera you want.

This is a 1:1 55mm macro lens by Vivitar (made by Komine). The lens itself is in excellent cosmetic and optical condition. The focus ring and the aperture blades work at they should. The glass is clean without blemishes.
This 55mm macro has a couple of features that make it a lens to consider:
1. It is a 1:1 macro while others are 1:2.
2. It is a fast lens. At 2.8 while the corners are not the sharpest, the center is perfectly good. The 2.8 aperture also makes manual focus easier because of the light available.
Like most other good manual focus lens, the focus ring is responsive and a joy to use.

I assume you are referring to a film camera that does not have autofocus. Also assuming you don't want to use the m42 adapter and m42/screwmount lenses.
All the below lenses are great value for money ....
Pentax smc 55mm 1.8 ---- for a fast 50mm with great rendering.
Pentax-m 50mm f4 macro --- for a macro lens that's sharp and light.
Pentax 28mm 3.5 -- a wide angle lens that's sharp fully open.
Tokina 90mm 2.5/ vivitar series 1 90m 2.5 --- great portrait lens also works as a macro (1:1 with the adapter)
Vivitar 100mm 2.8 macro/Vivitar series 1 105mm 2.5 macro -- 1:1 macro without adapter, legendary for its sharpness
Pentax 135mm 2.5 (not the takumar bayonet)/pentax-m 135mm 3.5 -- the first one for its low light ability, the m series for its compactness.
The list can go on. What's amazing about these lenses is, all of these will work great on any Pentax DSLR including the K1.

I have two thoughts,
1. The lens you have, is worth quite a bit of money. I suspect you can sell the lens and get yourself a nice used k50 + a prime like da 50mm 1.8, a decent zoom like 16-45 and maybe with a little more money get a 55-300 too. That should cover most of your shooting/learning needs.
2. If you really want to use your 50mm 1.2, you need to be able to focus well. Pentax DSLRs with the default focussing screens will not help in using the lens at high apertures. I think the mirrorless cameras are the cost effective solution. A used Samsung nx-30 for example should be gettable for around $225. A pk adapter for around $10. This will allow you to use the 1.2 at 1.4 if not fully open. Sony and Fuji too should have similar equivalents. This setup means you can invest relatively cheap amounts of money for good quality lens (for example old takumar lenses) as long as you are comfortable using manual focus( the evf makes it much easier).
