i figured it out with some help it was set on model by a side switch. that made it flicker to check for shadows when it is off the camera, i didn't check far enough in the manual big DUH to me. as usual most of my problems are operator problems not equipment problems. :)

recently i saw a post about a forum member who was able to contact the Pentax USA CEO. if that member or anyone else has the contact information would you mind sharing it with me.

what going on is i had an accident with my mark 3 back the 1st of may. my friend who shoot canon was with me and both of our camera bodies took a bad beating but we both had extended accident warranties from the same warranty company.

both repairs were approved while my wife was feeding us at our house an here's the problem. he had his gear back in 15 days. mine is still in repair waiting on Pentax to ship repair parts apparently from japan or mars for all know. the "latest" possible arrival for the parts is 7-22-23 but i will believe it when i see it.
i have located 3 different numbers and get the same BOT at each number and have never been able to get to a human.

an email snail mail or phone number if any exist for direct contact would be greatly appreciated.

i have shot Pentax since i was a teenager in the late 60's but with the problems i have had with repair service with this an another instance of parts being unavailable for months at a time i am about to sell it all and change mounts.

both mounts were broken along with some other miscellaneous damage. i should have been more specific. and FYI both lenses mounted were totally destroyed and replaced under the warranty, in both cases with a store credit by our choice. we were in some rough country hiking down a steep hill on loose rocks and went flying. just glad i wasn't carrying any other gear besides my mono pod which survived with a few scrapes. and to be honest regardless of the repairs needed an authorized repair facility not being able to stock parts is just ridiculous in my book.

winning shot at the West Virginia strawberry festival. all the prizes were awarded by visitors to the gallery voting. all the photos displayed were Juried in, this was the top prize, shot with the K-1 and the DFA 150-450. the shirt was no accident this is going to be sent to several West Virginia newspapers so i figured why not a little PR for Pentax. i keep thinking if Pentax would even have a social media presence sales would go way up. BTW the tech is on the photo on the wall not this shot it was taken with a phone for release.

My personal preference would be no video if other features for still photography could be added or current features enhanced such as frame rate and buffering but that's just me

Precision Camera Repair - For Real?

that was an interesting read. its a lot like an article I read about a week ago about New York's reaction to the Supreme Court overturning a big chunk of their gun laws. they are reacting by complying, but then making so many places sensitive areas where weapons can't be carried that as a practical matter nothing will change. it really sounds like apple is also complying with some kind of a court order but doing everything they can to make it difficult on anyone trying to take advantage of that ruling/order. personally, I had 2 years of radio and tv repair in high school and worked on radar and other navigation gear in the Navy after my stint on the riverboats, but I do not have the proper tools or the bench setup to work on very small precision equipment. and the equipment I would need is obviously far too expense to acquire just to work on my own gear. I was a natural resources police officer all my adult life after the navy, so needless to say I haven't kept up with all the advances, I probably know just enough to screw something up really bad. and please I did not use that article I read to start a discussion about gun laws I just used that as an example of creatively skirting court decisions.

sleeping with your rifle reminds me of a little song we had to march to and sing in boot camp when a big city boy used the term "gun" rather than rifle. if you've seen full metal jacket you have heard it. and none of my gear is my beloved. my 6 grand babies maybe but not an inanimate object.

I sort of thought a lot was lost in the translation, this is an excellent post on the subject. I was in Sasebo and Yokosuka when I was in the navy and was in a camera store in both places and they weren't much bigger then a good sized walk in closet but had stuff packed in everywhere. we had a photo store in Parkersburg West Virginia along the same lines but the owner passed away just as the internet was taking over. I refuse to worry, I'll just keep shooting and if my stuff stops working and if I'm not too old ill just get more stuff from whatever is available at the time.

they processed my last two rolls of Kodachrome, I used them for my now 14 year old grandsons first birthday. I still send them the rare roll of ektachrome I shoot in my MZS and they are always helpful. whoever packed the slides of my grandsons birthday put a little happy birthday note with a smiley face in with the slides.

Ricoh warranty???

this might be off topic but my 60-250 has now had four SDM's fail. one was fixed under warranty one was actually eaten by Pentax and I paid to have the other two put in. probably foolish on my part but I really like that particular lens. when the 4th one failed recently I wrote to Pentax/Ricoh and told them with that many failures of the same thing I felt they should replace it or at least repair it at no cost to me. what I got back was a form reminding to check their warranty policy and thanking me for being a Pentax user. Sam Walton said the ultimate boss was the customer they could fire everyone from the board on down by spending their money elsewhere. but all that being said my buddy who shoots canon will say the same things. they are as unresponsive as Pentax/Ricoh, the camera companies act like they have a captive audience and in my case they do i'd have to mortgage my house to switch mounts at this stage of the game.

Three new cameras under development?

I was on a whale watch boat ride in June off the coast of Maine. I ended up emailing pictures to close to 3 dozen people who saw the limitations of their phone cameras just on a 4 hour boat ride. when not zoomed they couldn't see anything and when they zoomed they couldn't hold steady enough to get any shots of the whales. anyone whose been on a whale watch boat knows you need a long lens and a fast shutter speed, neither of which a phone has. myself and a lady from NYC were the only people using DSLR's and large lenses, my wife and I ended up having dinner with her and her husband afterwards and she had about as many email addresses as I did. that's the market someone needs to go after. I think there's a huge untapped market for entry level bodies but its my opinion only for what its worth.

i prefer the pentax it does a fantastic job on my K1 and prior to that the MZ-S and it is built like a tank just like the K series bodies. in addition i have the 43 and the 77 and the same goes for them also. and this might be some sour grapes but Sigma refuses to make their newer glass in the K mount despite an obvious market so why support them.

Major Vent: Considering Departure from Pentax - Frustrations with Repairs

my friend i shoot with a lot uses canon mirrorless and has used canon clear back to the film days and he will tell you pretty much the same thing about repair and warranty problems. even places with consistent 5 star reviews has made someone mad along the way. i have had 3 experiences with precision over the years one was a pain right where i sit which was cured with a couple calls to Pentax directly, but the other two were flawless. all were under warranty one the factory warranty on the DFA 70-200 and the other was a damaged K-1 through new leaf. got a super fast turn around in both cases. no matter what brand you use there will be some people who have problems.

i look at it this way, i am on the Pentax forums because of the internet. and i have been able to locate and be in contact with old friends from the military and even got to attend a reunion of people who all went to boot camp in the same place. the good by far outweighs the bad.

look at the ads for silver eagles and silver dollars on facebook less than the spot silver price. and facebook keeps taking their money even though they are so obviously fake it hurts to look at them. and since i see them constantly I'm sure tons of people are falling for them and buying fake coins. and in some cases these click bait ads are after your credit or debit card information. you will never receive anything, whether its cameras or coins or whatever. if it sounds to good to be true is more than likely is.

i early adopted the K1 at around $1800.00 i cant imagine the K new will even approach that price unless they just don't want to sell very many. i am definitely interested in one as a replacement for my K3 but not at an exorbitant price. i am also saving for the DFA 21mm for my K1

i have both and the 50-135 is a special lens. the 60-250 has more range and works on the K1 but IMO the 60-250 for its versatility and in my experience is tack sharp. my 50-135 has been converted by uncle vanya and works just fine.

"Why We Shoot Film" - cool mini doco about film photography resurgence

i still shoot some black and white and develop it but scan the negatives that i want to print and also use my K1 body in black and white mode a lot. but it is interesting that this was posted today, i just had a discussion with a friend the other day about shooting black and white after she asked why i was shooting in black and white with a yellow filter with my K1. her question after i explained what i was using the filter for was "why not apply it in photoshop?" which led to a discussion about subtle differences in exposure and so on. she seemed interested so i sent her a site about using filters on black and white and promised the loan of an old kodak book on using filters that i have had for years. i learned on a spotmatic so slowing down has never been a problem.
