Thanks for this! I have been considering selling my K-x and I was curious what the current shutter count is.

Hi,
I'm a little late getting back here, but I wanted to let you guys know that the photo took 4th place out of a couple hundred entries in its division. I was very pleased.
Thanks for all the help and advice. :)

Nice shot of the Harrier.
My son was disappointed the MIG21 didn't make it, but for a small show I thought it was pretty good.

Thanks for the tips. I noticed the black spot the other day and initially thought it was just a high flying bird, but now I'm not so sure. I need to check to make sure it's not a spot on the lens or sensor.

Okay, I’m not sure I can explain this, but I will try. I recently noticed when looking through the viewfinder I see a pattern that looks like fingerprints. I tried changing lenses and it is still there. I can only see it when the background is light and I focus my eyes on the viewfinder and not on the subject. I really don’t think it is fingerprints because it looks very symmetrical and appears to cover the whole viewfinder (or mirror?). I have not been able to see any of this on photos, so I’m not sure if that means it’s just on the viewfinder.
Has anybody else noticed this? It’s obviously not very noticeable as I had my camera about 6 months before I saw it. Nothing has touched the sensor as I have been very careful when changing lenses.
Any thoughts on what this may be?
Thanks,
Bill M

I was in your shoes several months back. For me, it came down to in-body stabilization and price. By the time I got the D5000 and the corresponding lenses, it was going to be quite a bit more. Also, (and I could be wrong here) the D5000 doesn't have exposure bracketing. I wanted to have that option if needed.
If you ask this question on a Nikon forum, I'm going to bet most of the suggestions will be towards the D5000. You will just need to weigh the pros and cons of each. Good luck.

Thanks. I think we had pretty good luck with the wildlife. Our weather could have been better, but you can't have everything. :D
Well, that's a guesstimate. Maybe it was really 100 yards and my mind was telling me it was a lot closer. But we were outside of the vehicle. Our guide did have a large rifle, so we felt reasonably safe.
Here is another from the trip. Baby Orca w/ mother. This one probably needs to be cropped a bit. |

Looks like there are going to be a lot of "refurb" K-7s on the market soon.

Hello all.
In the next few months I will be purchasing my first DLSR. I have been thinking about getting one for a couple of years now and with a trip planned to Alaska next year, I am finally going to pull the trigger.
I initially decided I was going to get the Nikon D90. Then I saw the specs for the K7 and thought I would wait and check out the reviews for it. Even though the K7 body is $300 more than the D90, by they time I purchase comparable lenses, the K7+Lenses is only going to be about $100 more. Then I started reading about the sensor issues with the early batches of K7s. My questions are, what is the latest with the lines showing up in the photos? Has Pentax admitted there is a problem? Do they have it sorted out yet?
I know some of you are going to say the K7 or D90 is more camera than I need considering my lack of experience. But I’m the type of person who doesn’t “upgrade” equipment every few years. I want to get the best I can afford now and grow into it. And more than likely I will keep it for many, many years.
Thanks,
Bill
